Had this film been a purely Croatian effort (rather than a joint Yugo/US collaboration), would the mushrooms, rather than being based on African-Americans, have been modelled on Krajina Serbs?
@x54 That's what I'm trying to figure out, Croatian films seemed to do stuff like that alot, the movie that first scared me as a kid from Croatia was Lapitch the Little Shoemaker and the "Dirty Rat" musical scene
I guess the best way to describe this scene is that the writers ate mushrooms dipped with acid, stuffed with angel dust, sprinkled with cocaine. After consuming said mushrooms, they watched some old Looney Tunes cartoons with characters wearing blackface while listening to Michael Jackson songs.
I wanna see this movie! BTW, where can I find lyrics for this? I understood some but not all of it. And from 1:56-2:02 did they sing "Soon you'll be one of us." ?
@Dinobolt1 Michael takes charge, Power to our main man! Michael's in charge, power's now in his hands. Michael! If you find your soul, slipping down a hole That's cold, and darker than sin. Where globs of slime, hang all the time! You can feel it right next to your skin. So dont despair if the chill of the air starts to set your hair on end. You have just begun to feel the fun ff our Mushroom power my friend...
@Dinobolt1Mushroomy power baby!Down here is what we say. Mushroomy power baby! Aint no need for delay. Mushroomy power baby! Aint no use to run to far. Mushroomy power baby! Soon you'll be one of us!
Well stuff our caps and fry our stems, or coat us in marmalade. You can chop up parts/pop our pods ? right in your soup. We're at our best sauteed! Cause we're hot, hot hot!Yeah we're hot, hot hot...! :)
this scene was in particular my favorite, mushrooms dancing breakdance, and the afro mushrooms awesome, and the end, all of them turning into vampires
stfu about racism dude its hilarious i loved it when i was four i never thought of racism CAUSE I WAS FUCKING FOUR its a kids movie they dont give a shit about racism
I actually saw this on video back in 1988 when i was 6 and enjoyed it. I thought it was a fun movie and loved how they played it on Disney Channel sometimes.
Originally made in Croatia, this cartoon was pretty popular in its days. it was praised all over because of its effect and colorful animations and all... I had no idea that it went on Disney channel at all. Too awesome to be true.
I own the cartoon, but only in Croatian version, I'm afraid...
one of the trippy-est movies I watched as a kid. & this was shown on the Disney channel :) still, I loved it! :) Too fun. Loved Thistles' theme music too :)
Michael takes charge, Power to our main man! Michael's in charge, power's now in his hands. Michaelllllllllllllllllll! i cant understand this!!i watched the Croatian version and I understood it, but this is crazy!Ididn't even know they made the english version, I grew up on this thing!and it's not rasist, it's a comunist cartoon!
The movie is one hell of an acid trip, you don't even need to be a stoner. If you thought this was a trippy cartoon, check out "Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night".
Truffle Shuffle sounds like that catch-phrase from The Goonies.
c'mon! this is not racism! I mean this mushrooms could have been white, yellow! It does not matter! The cartoon is beautiful, colourful and it has a good message.
@neonkandiekid ohh ok I cannot simply understand 'cause I haven't grown up in the same system you did.. and my country is a small one and we were not a great colonial/imperial country in the past; so, we really cannot understand racial issues; therefore, this cartoon is really harmless and ppl who made it were not aware of what they were doing. because they do not understand. ok? :) so this is just one great colorful cartoon.
@elizabethbeatles You're wrong. They were completely aware, you are just the niave one. Just because you are niave to racial issues doesn't mean your whole culture is. The video does contain racial stereotypes and even IF they did it on accident it doesn't make it justifyable. Don't get me wrong it's not like these stereotypes are negative at all, but they are there and I guarantee they did it on purpose to fit the rap/hiphop theme that was starting to get popular at the time.
@Uglamumbo ok, but I would still like to believe they didn't mean anything bad by using these stereotypes..:)( I know I am naive and I'll always be 'cause that's just who I am in every aspect of my life; optimistic and naive) I just don't like when somebody accuses us of being racists.I was raised not to be a prejudiced person; so, I expect that from everyone else( again, wrong and naive, but what can I do)
explain to me which part of this video is racist? pelase, as you seem to be so enlightened in the subject..the fact that they hip hop(or whatever you call this kind of music) and the singer is brown? the cartoon was made in 1986, and in that time 99% of the people that sang this type of music were of black culture... In those days this was not a stereotype, it was a fact. Idiot. Enjoy the cartoon or move along... we don't care about your demented paranoid beliefs.
I think the problem a lot of people had with the mushrooms in question were designed to look like a lot of racist black caricatures, basically the brown skin/rubber-band red lips combo which was always used as a negative feature when portraying black characters. Its just unfortunate for some people who watch it that the designers had to resort to something like this, even if it WAS the 80s and hip-hop was popular. Its more of a question was to WHY they had to add in THOSE features.
It's been over 12 years since I saw the full movie, but this one scene in particular stands out for me even today. Breakdancing mushrooms will ALWAYS stand out.
I love the 80's films including this one. Like Care Bears 1,2 and 3, also G.I. Joe and Transformers, the Secret of the Sword also other movies, too. Elm Chanted Forest is become my favorite. GREAT UPLOAD!
this was my favorite movie when i was a kid, i had it on v.h.s then it just seemed as if i forgot about it.just hearing the music reminds me of being a kid.
This is my favorite moment in this movie. In fact, it's the only part of the movie I can remember, and the whole reason why I want to see this movie again. Even so, seeing mushrooms breakdance is probably the best thing I've seen in 80s movies.
I swear to you it looks just like the pizza parlor I like to eat at called "Mellow Mushrooms". And no, they don't play this song nor would they know anything about this movie.
One more thing, don't even try to type in on the search engine "Truffle Shuffle". You probably see some sick home movie or a video of Sean Astin shaking his belly as a kid on the movie "The Goonies".
Oh my god! I didnt know anybody else in the world had seen this film except me! I watched it like, every day when I was little! Where can I download the whole film?
I find it funny that Peter Pallete's legs aren't restrained in any way, shape, or form, and he could easily get up and step on the mushrooms. But then he wouldn't be Peter, would he?
