trucks in europe are limited to 80-90kmh or 50-55mph. the gearing is also different so comapring trucks in europe vs trucks in america is pointless. the only way you could tell something is uphill perfarmance but everyone seems not to give a s*** and is only interested in speed...

It all depends on the gearing of the truck. My 99 FRHTliner HAS done 162kph (101mph) in Wyoming and Texas. I drove it respectfully Please don't ever compare Europe to North America for trucking. The distances we have to drive are so much greater than Europe and we are usually paid by the distance not hourly. An 8 hour work day would mean a cross Canada run is 5200 kms and would take over 8 days one way.

Yeah, in France, 120 km/h is fast for a truck because the limit is at 90km/h : in our country, we protect people.

Also, we can't drive more than 10 hours 2 days per week, and the others days don't be more than 9 hours.

Now, why in the world would I want to do something like that for? The reason for my response was to show y'all Euros that you have too much fricken government over there! Our vehicles are different due to needs, and the rules we operate under. Y'all coast down hills (use Georgia Overdrive) to achieve speeds that we can legally operate at over here. Most states set the same speeds for all vehicles, and in Utah, that is up to 80 MPH or about 130 KPH. About 10 states are posted at 75 MPH.

This looks like a case of Georgia overdrive! (coasting down a hill) 120 kph (75 mph) is the speed limit for trucks in a dozen US states! As of January, Utah has posted an 80 mph (128kph) limit on a couple of sections of Interstate 15! This includes trucks! The truck in this video would have a hard time keeping up...

Most of the US. state governments, as well as our Federal Highway Administration have examined the practice of splitting speed limits, and have found that there is not a gain in safety. In some cases, it actually causes crashes. It is safest when all the traffic goes the same speed! 55 mph trucks do not mix well with 80 mph cars. California has the greatest split in the USA, 70 for cars and 55 for trucks. Calif. has the highest crash rate. Go ahead without the limiter, I will post a video soon.

I own and drive a Freightliner FLD 132-64 ST (Classic XL) conventional tractor, pulling a stepdeck semitrailer. Under the hood is a Caterpillar 550 hp, 1850 torque, 3406E. backed by an RTLO 18913 Eaton Roadranger transmission. The rear axles are 3.36:1, and spin 11R 24.5 tires. This truck will run in excess of 100 mph! (160 kph+) 1600 rpm is about 80 mph. I have aftermarket 800+ hp injector and turbo modifications. I plan on filming an 80 mph run next time I run through Utah; I will post it.

Jeez, 100+mph, is that hauling a trailer? Would love to see that! With the speed-limiters, remember that the roads in the EU are absolutely packed full. When I was in the states I saw semis going 75 but that was safe because they can keep a decent gap from the car in front. Over here you only get a 30 foot gap between vehicles on the motorways for most of the day... although most truckers prefer to run at night when the roads are empty.

100+ with the trailer loaded on a flat level roadway without the help of a tail wind. One would wonder if this would be safe, 80 tons going 100+ down the road?! We have "traffic jelly" and "traffic jams" over here too. A good example would be I-25 north of Denver, Colorado. It is always full, and everyone runs 75 to 80 on it. (posted at 75 MPH) Many of us prefer the night also for the same reasons. The technology likely exists to install "tailgate limiters" on all vehicles.

I will admit a typo on the 80 tons, but even 30 or 40 tons is heavy enough to be a disaster. I have had to get out of the way of loaded big rigs racing down the Interstate at over 100 mph. Bull haulers (livestock) are the worst offenders, and are sometimes running overweight.
