  • What years it from

  • There are only around $20,000, which is surprising considering what they are, when they are from, and the historic value. But look at the tail, good luck doing any mutes.

These are for collectors. Not a great choice for a player.

  • i think the tailpiece is the best part of the old style les paul..

  • this guitar isnt very special for me

  • Put a TOM and ABR-1 on this guitar and you got a damn beast.

  • GIE ME THAT GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FIFTY TWO!

  • dear santa.....

  • are those parts of songs you play or are you just free ballin it?

  • Anyone who whines about intonation is someone too into the mechanics of music. Many classic tracks were laid down with instruments that were tuned by ear, not by sensors. Many guitarists, except Eric Johnson, don;t intone their guitars properly, but they play by feel. So I wouldn't whine that a '52 Goldtop can't be intoned properly, it's a freaking piece of music history and it sounds great!

  • O fuck.

  • Listen to that damned thing!

  • Wish he'd tell us the year it was made.

  • @betamaxrules 1952??

  • @betamaxrules You're kidding right..? I mean he does say 52 at the end, clearly stating it's a 1952 les paul, and he says it in the beggining of the video, AND it says 1952 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop as the title. I think someone had a moment of dumbass. Just saying.

  • @97copeable Your're right! I AM kidding. Thanks to those that got the joke and didn't post a comment.

  • Beautiful guitar but you honestly can't get a good feel for the tone of it with that blues rock wankage you're pulling off here. I can get my stick 90s LP Special to sound like that with a tubescreamer into a Fender blues jr.

Slow down, learn some altered dominant chords and melodic leads with less overdrive into a Fender amp.

  • Guy I grew up with had one of these. His dad bought it at a yard sale (w/ original case) for $80. It had been in a shed so the finish was in bad shape, but it was still beautiful.

  • and they intonate terribly

  • 0:56 you tease me...XP

  • i listen to phil x shows while doing homework. cos it cheers me up.

  • Fretted Americana, Could you please make a longer video of this beautifull guitar?

  • do you ship to peru?

  • what brand of nail varnish do you use, Phil?

  • I wonder where the first ever made les paul is, if it still exists

  • out of alot of guitars i've heard. les pauls are a fav. and the wieght, and feel of teh guitar is nice. :) so nice to hold. haha

  • i'd swap my penis for that guitar.

  • @TheShyTeds No Takers, Sorry.

  • @TheShyTeds Your wife would kill you.

  • @TheShyTeds i would to.

  • @TheShyTeds thats a fair trade

  • unplayable guitar....

  • Is there any way you can remake this video? It´s so short...

  • "Hey! Look at ME! Look how FAST I can play."

Jesus, dude. Take a second to smell the goddamn roses. You're playing a 1952 gold-top Les Paul..... one of the best-sounding guitars ever created, and you're off to the races. Bull in a china-shop. Let's hear some dynamics.

I don't mean to be so-harsh, but show the guitar some respect. I would be honored just to hold something that nice, let alone play the thing, and yet you grip the thing like you're holding one of those all-black Les Paul Gothics.

  • @gangtwanger It's his job. he can do what he wants to. You want it your way, then go get a '52 gold-top yourself :| this guy is a professional.

  • @gangtwanger Some people buy fast cars and store them in their garage and wax them all the time and look at them all day, but never drive them as to keep them clean and to last longer. Other people buy fast guys, and drive them fast. In other words, some people buy an awesome rockin' guitar and they rock and roll with it, while others just clean the damn thing. Well I don't own a fast car, but proud to say I play the hell outta my guitars.

  • @gangtwanger

he is being gentle with the guitar, you should see what he does to his own guitars, hahaha!

I can understand where you're coming at and that vintage guitars need to be treated with care and respect, but i'm gonna have to agree with tycer18. guitars are made to be played and to the best of our abilities. besides, the store owner probably wants him to play like that, otherwise, they wouldn't have made 300 videos with him.

  • I am saving up for that one and only guitar! In my opinion, 52´s sound much, much better than any other Les Paul.

  • awesome guitar but i prefere the tuneomatic bridge than that bridge

  • dude phil x has the life he gets to play all these awesome ass old vintage guitars and fuck around!

  • 52!

  • 0:56 Whole Lotta Love try? xP

  • I love how you start playing Whole Lotta Love and then stop because you realise you can't palm-mute on the trapeze tailpiece xD

  • If only i had $22,500 :(

  • Why didn't you keep playing "Whole Latta Love"?

  • @aguileogonzalez you cant palm mute on its tail piece

  • Can do another video of this please?

  • That was the first Les Paul model, right?

  • i agree, that neck pickup is just beautiful...

  • 1:17 alake!

  • great guitar... what brand strap is that?

  • how much for it?

  • @thedesiredavenger this guitar is still in stock, so please would you go to our website: frettedamericana com or call us at 818.222.4113 for all the info on this guitar.

  • @frettedamericana thank you btw do you ship to mexico? just saying

  • @thedesiredavenger yes, we ship to Mexico. we use Fedex

  • @frettedamericana You mean FedMex?

  • @frettedamericana What about Brazil and Argentina ?

  • @frettedamericana

    do you ship to canada?

  • lol, but get real - not many mexicans would be able to afford such an amazing instrument :D better off trying to buy Chinese, I think!!!

  • @plotchickens maybe its true but Fuuhck u ! :P

  • @frettedamericana nice tone but i hate that bar at the bottom i just bought a 56 gold top epiphone from sam ash for about 600 dollars and i also seen gibson les pual for 800 pretty cheap whooo

  • My Dad's friend sold one of these, a 1952 gold top with the same tailpiece identical to this, to a local guitar shop for just £800 a few years ago. I can only cringe at what it must have been worth.

  • hey my grandpa gave me a gibson 1952 les paul guitar i did not know it was worth a bunch of money

  • @zaca911 You lucky bastard, you cherish that thing, its one of a kind lol, and if you dont want it i'll happily take it lol

  • Comment removed

  • @llss882 check out our website or google gibson

  • what kinda amp is that so i know not to buy it XD

  • I would love to hear the magic of this guitar in maybe a longer demo. Maybe through the evil robot?

  • I could play like that too if i put some cocaine and Adderall up my nose. No but seriously, this guy knows a few licks.

  • '52 goldtop thru crappy 90's marshall transistor amps

you guys must be really smart...

  • arent those thing worth 400k-800k?

  • @dudejoe64 im they are worth quite a bit but the only LPs i have seen for that much are the 1959 sunburst LPs

  • wow you are the luckiest man to stumble upon a 52' les paul, damn that thing is like 700k

  • Tune it or Die! LOL!

  • why is it brand new looking? is it a re finish?

  • @alanfenton100 well preserved? idk

  • Is it still for sale? If so, can you link me to its page?

    Thanks !

  • was that guitar restored cause my 52 was played and looks like crap compared to that. same color though. (it might be a early 53)

  • you are a fucking lucky man

  • i dont like the sound of the p90s on this guitar. too fuzzy and sharp sounding

  • mmmmm p-90's : )

  • Dude, how come you made a video of only 1:21? Two things I can't understand is why this video has only 1:21 minute and the other Les Paul Jimmy Page video is only 3 minutes long... Thankfully the new videos are longer! Rock on Phil X and FA!

  • i want this guitar!!!:D

  • Something's wrong with your fingernails

  • phil, you're awesome!!! (and i rarely say this)

  • Sounds like your amp needs a re-valve , its whistling

  • great guitar

  • Wow. So Phil, what's it feel like to play one of the first Les Pauls ever?

  • "52!!!!" lol very nice guitar.

  • which amp is that? please answer, thanks

  • @llss882 It's a Magnatone Tonemaster. It's actually an accordion amp. I think it's somewhere around 1955-1958

  • not digging the neck sound but great guitar otherwise.

  • dude can you play some more AC/DC??? on some sg's????

  • .. OMG >

  • I have a '52 in the original case that needs lot's of work. Not even playable right now. Broken headstock(typical Les Paul), Needs repaint , not to make nice, it's 'cause of an idiot who painted it with a paint can and cut the trapeze in half!

Getting it lined up to restore the damage. All else is original, thank God. Fun project. Can't wait till it's a guitar again.

  • 52 !!

  • omg what a fuckin tone

  • What is your oldest guitar?

  • Nice sound, but I bet it's hard to keep in tune, lol.

  • man this sounds fat for a p-90

  • dude u are amazing!!! i hope to be getting a new guitar soon and i cant decide between the les paul standard limited in fireball or a les paul custom in cherry sunburst can u help me

  • love P-90 pickups

  • @steffsweet45 Me too! I want a Les Paul with a p-90 at neck and a mini humbucker at bridge.

  • Awsome u should give lessons

  • he had the "am doing it mama" expression

  • should of played oh well bye Fleetwood mac on that guitar it would of sounded awesome

    thanks, greetz and rock on!

    gus

  • How much?

  • ill take for 5,000

  • @nv2828 Sadly Its worth WAYYYYYYY more than that. . .

  • black nails? really? . .

  • WOW! beautiful guitar and tone.

  • beautiful tone :D. I want a vintage guitar like that. Guitars are like wine...the older, the better :D.

  • does anyone know a place to get a bigsby tailpeice by itself? i want to put one on an old Les Paul

  • amazon and e-bay probably :)

  • You can buy a duesenberg tremola adapter, I did it on my les paul studio but it doesn't really stay in tune...

But you can try! Same as a bigsby

  • StewMac!!

  • ya, stew-mac, ebay, craigslist.

  • @Glockenator guitar center thy are kinda expensive though

  • F@#$king love Phil

wanna take you to the back of a high school and get you pregnant

p.s not in a gay way

  • in what other than a gay way is it then..? :D

  • I wish Phil would demonstrate the middle section (Both pickups) too, with most guitars that gives the most beautiful clean sound. But Phil almost always skips that middle section.

  • First type of les pauls EVER. INSANE.

  • best guitar ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why all your guitar is very very expensive ??? more expensive than sweetwater . . May i know, is your guitar used or new ? Actually, i want to buy your guitar but if the price is too expensive, i deny . . .

  • 1952 buddy! very rare!

  • @frettedamericana I personally can't believe he asked that. just over 1700 made. The FIRST series.

  • @frettedamericana PLEASE DO A 57 GOLDTOP

  • @yoyon010587...you got to pay if you want quality, I'm willing to throw down like 2,500-5,000 bucks for a guitar..

  • @yoyon010587- You are a retard

  • ...uhh are you retarded?

  • @yoyon010587 Dude, Its an ORIGINAL '52! These are the FIRST Les Paul's

  • @yoyon010587 hahah i went true all the trouble of signing in to laugh at you that like 135,000 i saw one on ebay like that

  • @yoyon010587 lmao, you must not understand. This guitar is FIFTY-EIGHT years old. Sweetwater probably doesn't have them in stock.

  • @yoyon010587 sweet water? dude these are all VINTAGE GUITARS....this is actually from 1952......how many do u think are still around?

  • Guy, the guitar is made in 1952, you know, the year 1952. It is THE Les Paul Proto-type, and it is awesome. Now think again about your question about how "new" it is. Nice playing as always Phil!

  • @yoyon010587 first year les paul man, not many came to us nowadays

  • @yoyon010587 you're a dumbass, of course they are a gonna be more expensive than sweetwater or any other store because some of these guitars are extremely rare and very old and aged as far back as 1937 which makes these instruments very valuable

  • @yoyon010587 dude the guitar is 59 years old and they started making these guitar 59 years ago

  • Seen the real deal. And no, they are around $30,000. But still, going to buy it one day.

  • U do know that this guitar is worth 800.000 dollars !!!!!!! amazing guitar :)

  • @adamleijon I think its worth every dollar. Keeps them from faling in the rong hands ... yoyon010587 ????

  • @adamleijon u find me the guitar that is worth 800,000 and i will run around my office butt naked and post it on youtube.

  • OMG THAT SOUND!!! I nearly cried when i heard it. Beautiful :')

  • Oooo... treat that one with some respect. And here's some tuning advice... don't tune down then back up... Tug then tune up to pitch only.

  • theres no way in HELL this video should only be 1:21 long

  • Agreed.

Not the biggest Gibson fan, but... THAT TONE! Sweet mother of god, Fretted Americana, we need moar! :D

  • 52 Les paul is a piece of History, my friend has a orginal with the case. It is faded and worn. It is still a beautiful guitar. The reason they painted them gold because they didn't want Leo Fender to find out is was 2 pieces of wood. Ted mcCarthy years.

  • i think they painted them gold because Les Paul likened the gold colour with wealth...

  • sorry dude not may guitars were left handed from then .. kinda why hendrix flipped his over

  • Damn, this is pretty much my dream Guitar *_* Does anyone of you know wether there are any lefthanded Goldtops from 52, 58 or 59?

  • lol just flip it over :P

  • holy shit these things sound fucking amazing, i totally agree with reissuing them

  • That Les Paul was made in 1952 ? how it looks so new ? she was reconditioned by some luthier?

  • gibson should reissue these
