The last 3 tracks played on the night were Journey - Don't Stop Believin', Otis Day - Shout and as I was signing off, the underscore from Top Cat. It's all on the subtitles I thought!
The real pain in the butt requests for me is when you have the dance floor full like you did but the groom isn't dancing and comes up and not just requests but demands something that you know will clear most of the floor. I always counsel against it but they always know better than the DJ. They are the client so i always go with what they want but prepare a well know party track to mix in as soon as the floor dissappears.
I'm loving my D2. I have retired the PC now completely for discos. I have just added an external CD for those time when someone sticks a CD under your nose and says 'play track #x'
Hey, your weddings are the closest resemblance of mine. Maybe its the whole Eastern Canadian - Scottish connection or something. Anyway great job on the video. I love the use of the D2. I have one myself and although I think its a great unit, I had to exchange mine for another d2 since I was having problems with both Play buttons sticking. But my new one is perfect.. Also had to possibly correct you on the "when you say nothing at all track". It was originally done by Keith Whitley. :)
I haven't had any D2 problems, thankfully - just an issue with the HD powering down after a little period of not being used. As regards the Keith Whitley version - you are absolutely correct. His version was in 1988, Krauss' hit in 1995 and Ronan had a UK #1 in 1999.
how early did you finish from your contracted ending time? they looked like the had a ton of fun. i honestly have had drunk patrons at a wedding come up at the end, shake their finger at me and say "you were supposed to play for 4 more minutes..." guess you just have to read the crowd. but awesome video!
We finished probably about 15 minutes early. I make a point of explaining when I meet with my clients that I will read the situation and do everything to make their big day finish in style.
On this occasion we had lost much of the crowd and those left seemed to be more hanging on - it was a long day after all.
I saw a few people getting ready to head out so I grabbed everyone together to send the happy couple off in style. They'll remember that finish more than a less fun 15 minutes worth.
Yes, yes, yes...I get the same annoying person coming up to me at gigs during slow songs telling me everyone wants dance music. You just have to laugh at those kind of clueless people. Great gig log, Alan!
I like the way you ended that Show....

Jeremy, I'm using a combo of Vue III, Spectrum LEDs, Colorsplash Jrs., Mystic LED and Revo 1. Lots of dots, unfortunately!

I would enjoy a video about how you use mixmeister live. How you cue, program songs, etc.

Alan, that is most definitely a gig log with plenty of information and tips for all DJ's...an automatic youtube favorite!
Just curious, why don't you use mixmeister for the whole evening?
jasperibe 3 years ago 2
I don't use MixMeister for a bunch of reasons.
1. I'm not proficient enough with it yet.
2. I only have one sound card - can't cue therefore.
3. I like the big chunky rubber buttons on my D2 for cueing and mixing.
4. I don't entirely trust laptops to not crash.
Great question, though - you've made a really good point that I should have mentioned.
