What a fabulous flag and a fabulous cause :) I like this poem very much, and your sister sounds like a wonderful person! "Never let go of your pride, nomatter how strong the voices against you may rise."
@PatchesRips You know, in the largest KKK rally EVER IN US HISTORY in 1926 in washington DC there were more USA flags than confederate flags. Theres pictures of them too. When the USA was founded, all states had slavery. Should the thirteen colonies flag be called a slave flag?
@branman864 "When the USA was founded, all states had slavery."
No, they didn't. At the adoption of the US Constitution in 1787, only two states north of the Mason-Dixon Line had slavery; New York and New Jersey. By 1804, no state in the North had slavery.
"Should the thirteen colonies flag be called a slave flag?"
Hate will never end, when people offend each other on the same land we breath, eat, and sleep. We only stand united when we get attacked by foreigners. Then we all act as hyprocrites once again and what???? Pretend we are UNTIED and stand for all Americans. Grow up, time to move on into the new century. For that matter, divide the American Flag and The Confederate Flag and make into ONE!!!! Teach our children the true history behind OUR Flags. Teach not to HATE! We are all the same SPECIES!
I think so much could be achieved by the younger generation having pride in the land that gives them shelter. the south has so very much to be justly proud of and this should be taught in schools etc . keep flying your flag , i wish we had the same respect for our flag that the usa has for theres .
When I was a kid, I loved the CS flag, without any reason other than it looked cool and was carried by brave men who all wore floppy hats and ragged uniforms: the underdogs! Later I grew up, got "educated" by the "system" and came to hate the CS flag because it was "racists" and "treasonous". Now I've gotten older and wiser and I've fallen back in love with the CS flag because I now see I was brainwashed into hating it. Long may she wave!!!!
The United States was founded on the principal that all men are created equal. The Confederacy was founded on the principle that they're not, that Africans are inferior and servitude is their natural place. But don't take it from me; read the speeches, the Constitution of the Confederacy. And once the soldiers caught onto the slaveowners' scam of stolen food and worthless money, desertion rates were sky-high; that's a fact. I pity you for your racist past and your global-warming dustbowl future.
im not even getting into to the people with their noses in the air who think the war was over slavery i just want to give credit to this little girl not only was she spot on with what its about she was poetic and i couldnt have said it better my self ..... just remember honest abe wasnt so honest
No, the Confederate flag was a symbol of racism and slavery. There were practically no other reasons as to why the war began. Idiot rednecks like to believe that the Confederate flag is a symbol of "freedom", when all the Confederate were in favor for was enslaving. The Civil War ended 140 years ago, losers. Go Union!
Afraid you don’t get it pal Thanks to selective editing of our nations history, the fact that the civil war was fought over states rights, one component being slavery, seems to have been lost over time, more than likely purposefully. Besides, there was never a southern flagged slave ship. ALL the slaves were imported into New York, Massachusetts, and other Northern ports, which is where they were primarily mistreated. A landowner was typically not going to mistreat a slave they paid dearly for.
@ScreamingFangirl65 you sir are a fucking idiot learn more about your history before you speak slavery was a by product of the south. do i agree with slavery fuck no, the rebel flag was a symbol for the south and their struggle with the government at the time. your a disgrace i pity you
@brandonbld17 yes thats rite im a southern boy i may think differant than him but yes the war was not a bout slavery it was the south taking for grannet what we did and wanted it to all be their way or no way the civil war was in my beleafe a well needed war i may not of liked the outcome but i live with it good men fought for their rights and you cant even just read up on your history a little bit truly the confederate flag is a simble of the souths
@brandonbld17 rebailyan against the north for the one purpos of them gettin respect which the north has yet to this day failed to give to the south the north is such a sorry excuse for civilization that northerners dislike northerners man no offence but ya you might need to do a littil recerch on the confederacy and the civil war mainly the confederacy from a southerners point of view because if you watch them damn yanks cant tell the truth (THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN BOYS)
@Sydwayman just because i may be illiterate dont mean everyone else is we have something that yall dont common since we know what we want and we fight for it if we dont want blacks then we dont want them deal with it if we want it to be all white deal with it look at it from our side all we want is to have our way of life dont come down here and try and change us it aint rite and thats what we dont like so pull your thumb out your ass and let us be we are who we are we choose to like confederacy
@Sydwayman Isn't that called prejudice? Isn't that supposedly what you fight against? You can see why nobody gives a flying fuck what yankee thinks then.
@Sydwayman Oh, poor ignoranamus yankee boy. Did I call you out for accusing Southerners of being prejudice when you yourself are judging based on region? Hahahaha crawl back to your miserable Northern shit hole.
@solaceinstrife I said you idiots are Illiterate and racist... anyway, a state or region is far more indicative of stupidity and ignorance than skin color.
@Sydwayman You make no sense, you call us racist yet you are being prejudice towards us based on region? Wtf? Are you really that fucking backwards? You are a contradiction!!!!!
@solaceinstrife "Did I call you out for accusing Southerners of being prejudice when you yourself are judging based on region?"
Excuse me, but, doesn't the Stars and Bars stand for a region? And wasn't that region the part of the United States that practiced slavery until forced to stop? How exactly is he being "prejudiced" in pointing out that association--principles and region, represented by this symbol--and questioning the sensibilities of it?
i am English but if i moved to the southern states i would be very proud to fly a confederate flag next to the stars and stripes . history is written by the victors but an intelligent man can read between the lines . only a fraction of the civil war was about slavery . fact
@dave2806 Thank you sir, it is a fact also that the English scared the shit out of Abe Lincoln during the war as well. He was scared that you guys were going to come in guns blazin'.
@solaceinstrife They wouldn't have come "guns a-blazin'"; at most they would have broken off commercial and diplomatic ties with the US if it became clear the CSA was viable and the US refused to come to a settlement. Slavery had been illegal in the Empire for two generations by the 1860s; it was opposed by the British people and they would not have gone to war to preserve it elsewhere. To do so would have also caused a breach within the Empire as over 10,000 Canadians were in the Union army.
fuck the confederate flag..... all its good for is to wipe my ass... i piss on the confederate flag and burn it... you lost the fucking war rednecks!!! you cant have slaves anymore you gotta pick your own goddamn cotton..get over it
as touching as your poem is, it doesn't doesn't have anything to do with why they started the confederate states of america. take a look at the u.s. constitution and the c.s.a. constitution and read what the difference is. hint: most of the differences consist of "negroes" and "slavery".
The Confederate battle flag, called the "Southern Cross" or the cross of St. Andrew, has been described variously as a proud emblem of Southern heritage and as a shameful reminder of slavery and segregation. The flag you have on your back wall reminds me that you supported the South during the Civil War. The South wanted to keep slavery while the North felt opposed. By having that on your wall, you support the south which supported slavery. Sorry, but do your history.
Confederate Flag represents the traditional Jeffersonian Libertarian principles that this nation was founded on but has for so long forgotten. It represents the preservation of individual state rights and an objection to federal tyranny. It represents the last defense of what was once sacred about this republic. pEOPLE THAT DEFEND THE OLE RED WHITE AND BLUE die defending tyrannical injustice imperialism
While it continues to grow around them they will continue to hold on to hate and/or an unwillingness to open their eyes. They will continue to find support for their belief in their own small world… their personal snow globe. But they are a dying breed, dinosaurs of the modern day.
To these people I say "Don't hide behind your words.. lift up the sheet on your head and let us see you for what you are." To those people that are just lost and can't grasp the hurt and suffering attached to these symbols… well they are just ignorant or selectively ignorant. Honestly the world is moving to fast for the open racist, closet racist, and the selective ignorant.
Now I will be real, some of the people attaching personal feelings are just flat out closet racists. They will give you their pathetic attempt at being politically correct and water down their argument. This of course is in effort to some how justify why holding on to something racists should be accepted. Its bull-ish!
I think that most people today understand what racism is and can recognize the symbols associated with it. There are some however that hold on to their personal beliefs associated with racists ideologies and symbols and some how feel their personal feelings supersede what is commonly viewed as flat out racist.
Do you guys know what the Confederate flag stands for? The Confederates were in favor of slavery, a shame that has plagued our great nation. The Union was right to win. The Confederate flag did not stand for hope, or justice, or anything but the right to enslave and to subjugate the black community.
@ScreamingFangirl65 does the stars and stripes stand for Jim Crow? Or internment of the Japanese? Or the deportation of American Indians? There's more to people than their worst actions. You need to see both sides. There were no good guys in the Civil War. Only two groups of bad guys fighting for power. Neither government gave a shit about black people, and the ordinary people on both sides of the line were caught in the middle. State power itself is the problem, whatever flag they fly
@ScreamingFangirl65 I'm proud to say that you're wrong but I realize you're reacting to what you were taught in school or heard from others taught in school or what you seen on TV. Do the research, it's coming to light that the south was not for slavery. The Southern State of Virginia was the first state to try to stop the imports of slaves. Also the Southern slaves remained behind (what didn't help fight) to work on the farms while the men fought. The North's main revenue was importing slaves.
@ScreamingFangirl65 don't u realize all freeing the blacks did was ruin this country just look at all the gangs across this land. Who's in em? what are they doing? sure looks like the wrong thing to me. i will say there are some good black folks in the country but if u look at the statistics which race lead this country in poverty and crime? if you need anymore proof just look how far we slid downhill since obama took over office. sure bush was an idiot but atlest he keep americans working.
@norternrebel How dare you be in favor of slavery? How dare you judge a man by the color of his skin? Obama inherited a disaster from George Bush, who wasted millions of taxpayer's money and thousands of lives on the Iraq war, which was all for nothing. Obama has not started any wars, and has not done anything but try to create MORE jobs for Americans. I guess one would be able to say George Bush is evil, but he is too stupid. Please don't fill up my inbox with any more racist garbage, please.
@ScreamingFangirl65 Obama started a war in Libya, and he continued the other two wars when it was in his power to stop them, which is just as bad as starting them.
@ScreamingFangirl65 what do u mean how dare i be in favor of slavery? I'm sure my ancesters would have taken slavery over the death camps they were put into being feed rancid meat and given blankets full of disease. or better yet finding the women and children butchered while the men were out hunting. so don't think i'm racisist against just blacks. as races in general i really don't like any of yunz.
@norternrebel You are a sad person. I'm not going to waste any more time arguing with some ignorant racist. I hope you get professional help, because you are one of the many idiots that is holding America from being a truly free country. Leave me the hell alone.
@shadowgeyser and IM also wondering how the fuck you inferred I'm this "libdem" ....say i few words and you already get a label on You Tube....NICE JOB!! LOL!!
@shadowgeyser thatss exactly what it means....does matter now though...the north crush the confederacy and now you guys hand up the flag as if that means something lmao losers
@darthroden why? because I hate a flag that reveld against my country the USA if you don't like Amreica take your stupid confederate flag an get out of my country!
I take it then that you hate the flag of Mexico too, not to mention the flag of Great Britain as well?
I for one love America, am proud to be American, and understand that being American means having the freedom to honor who I am and who my ancestor was. I have a very huge contempt for people who choose to define being patriotic by a very narrow-thinking view such as yours.
Maybe you might want to read up on the constitution a bit before you go attacking someone else's patriotism?
@darthroden Look I pledge a legions to the United sates flag NOT the Dixie flag OK I don't care about Mexico or the British flag yes you do have rights to do what ever but when you defend a flag other then your own you my friend are a trader to this country less face the truth you are a southern person and can't admit the your ancestors in the south where races and wanted slavery under that flag
First of all my ignorant friend, there is no "pledge of allegiance" to the Dixie flag, and I too pledge to the US flag.
Second your spelling is horrible, you spell Southern with a capital and trader should be "traitor"...of course being a former US Navy serviceman (discharged honorably I might add) I am certainly no traitor, indeed I think I have done more for this country than you have sitting on your ass typing shit to people who you do not understand.
@darthroden How come every time I talk to one of you it seems like you all are service man? I wonder if is true!
Any way you Know we actually haven't talked about what you think that flag means, and please don't say southern pride that is bull shitt LOL and we all know it.
Oh and I do plenty for my country we don't have to serve to serve are country I hope to here back from you soon
We both know you have little interest in the truth of what Southern Pride means. To you its a slogan at best and a joke at worst.
At any rate, you clearly have made up your mind about what sort of person I am based on your own prejudiced, narrow-minded thinking...one which shares the same view of my ancestor's battle flag as that of a member of the Ku Klux Klan ironically.
I see at least you have learned to spell this time, good for you.
@darthroden Ha ha I love talking to you, first I have never put you in the KKK side neither I think that you are a racist.
Look I understand that you don't want to believe that your ancestors where fighting for a lost cost yes they where fithing to keep their economy but they also wanted to keep their slaves this country has made many mistakes but sooner or later they fix their mistakes and when the country was ready to end slavery the south was not.
Now its my turn to question you, lets begin with where are you from?
If you are not from the South then I wouldn't expect you to understand the meaning of that flag anymore than a Muslim would respect or understand the Star of David.
My other question would be if you favor war...I mean I myself do not support war, nor celebrate it. My only concern in regards to the men who died in the war (on both sides) is their sacrifices, but I do no condone the loss the reason that lead to it.
@octoberborne1978 Georgia Intermarriage It shall be unlawful for a white person to marry anyone except a white person. Any marriage in violation of this section shall be void. Georgia Reform Schools The children of white and colored races committed to the houses of reform shall be kept entirely separate from each other. Kentucky
@octoberborne1978 Education Separate schools shall be maintained for the children of the white and colored races. Mississippi Nurses No person or corporation shall require any white female nurse to nurse in wards or rooms in hospitals, either public or private, in which negro men are placed. Alabama
@octoberborne1978 Here are some of the laws this confederate states have had why I ask if they are not races and if they where what do you think their kids and the kids of their kids would be like if they are grown in that environment?
@octoberborne1978 Tell me what the reason for the war was? If you can! CSA oh men you talk like it was a hole different country It was USA territory and US had the right to take their land back from a rebellion that did not follow rules. You say you where in the marines right what would happen if you did not obey rules or if you question commands?
@octoberborne1978 Well you just proved your religion intolerance right their WoW not all Muslims are terrorists my friend just because their is a few crazy fucks those not mean they are ignorant believe me I know OK and Yes My cousin has been to the south where he was insulted and some people wanted to fight him based on his color and he is light brown male
@octoberborne1978 I don't favor war at all but if some one is trying to take your land, I think you have the right to wipe them in to shape and that is what the UNION did. Your flag belongs in a museum and the men the lost their life is sad but they where miss guided. Like the Afghan children are told by their parents that their war is just some times that is life and I pray for all of them but that those not make it right in my eyes
@octoberborne1978 So is my turn to ask some questions Where in the USA are you from? How old are you? What religion are you? My friend I hope to here from you again is really fun talking to you.
You really have open my eyes to the way the south thinks
You are telling me that the south is not racist only 50 years ago their was so many bombs and killings in the south because of race you are telling me during the civil war they where not based on race? Common open your eyes I love to here what you have to say
I wonder how many bombings and killings have been done in the entire United States of America because of race? The South has no monopoly on racism no matter what you believe.
Flying the flag or displaying it does not make one a racist...a fact you otherwise have yet to prove.
I understand that slavery was the sparking issue of the secession, however I disagree that it was what caused the War or the reason the the Union invaded the CSA, and secession itself was not what caused the war.
@just2intense 1. Standing for Liberty is never in vain. Though your wish that others should live a defeated life is.
2. I had a debate with a guy who stated the same "facts" that "according to Miriam Webster treason is the act of covertly working to injure a nation. I'm uncertain as to what he saw as covert about the bayonet in the north's ass, let alone profuse and public exclamations.
3. Our patriotism is loyalty to the U.S. Constitution, not to a subservient instrument gone astray.

I have friends of every other race, I struggle for my friends, race is not an issue where friendship is concerned. Quality of character is. I have stood in the face of a man literally pounding his chest like an ape hard enough to bruise himself screaming at the top of his lungs " I'm a man! I'm a man! I'm a man!". In response to his aggression I asked him "what kind of man". He was in no way prepared to answer. In no way prepared to offer any justification for himself.
Respect as a human is a freebie, deserved from the git go. Respect as an individual MUST be earned. That is the fundamental argument here. People hate that the South bloodied the nose of the north because they are afraid to stand for their own individual freedom. The best they can do is cuss a people who did. Finding no worthy justification in themselves, they seek to injure others as well. Claim love of a concept they have no real perception of through the espousal of hate. It's called vanity.
WTF is it when people curse the South and people who stand for what they perceive was a struggle for freedom but fear of having to establish for YOURSELF as an individual your own Liberty? Where you secure in the righteousness of your efforts, you would need not look back a hundred years to a life you where not a part of to claim justification. Justification for what? A "reason" not to earn your own individuality, freedom?
Look, many of you are going to hate me for this because you are afraid. Afraid that it could be true. Rednecks are heavy on individualism. It offends that sense in those that any would demand money, respect and other things that are perceived by rednecks as having to be EARNED. Rednecks don't like ANY people that claim a right to ANYTHING they have not earned, including people of their own race. You don't earn respect by claiming injury and demanding compensation. King didn't do that, why you?
What but ignorance are the detractors of the South defending? Nothing, is the answer. They claim slavery as an issue, being wholly ignorant of what Liberty is.They are only expressing but their own hate. They would say their hate is justified by by what they perceive was or is the hate of others. Anyone need further examples of cowardice, ignorance, and vanity.
The confederate flag is the greatest and truest symbol of a traitor. Some see white pride, Southern pride, or hope for something new. Every sane person sees the symbol of a traitor. So, fly it high. Fly it proud. Forget history and celebrate the attributes of a traiterous southern elite that dragged the country to the brink, and the poor bastards who were dumb enought to follow them.
@Pnutt5100 You hillbilly stupid jackass's look like the real idiots you are flying that bs flag. It means nothing, it doesn't represent America, only represents a war you hicks got your ass's whipped in real bad, yet you want to be reminded of that, LOL!!! Dream on fool.
@Just2Intense I keep seeing where theses "hicks" got their asses wiped. You as a student of history and someone who seeks truth over proclamation of vanity, such a person professes love and expresses hate and I know that could not be you, that it was the South who killed more than twice as many of their enemies in combat. And that it was the U.S. Constitution that that took a waxing, and I know you would prefer to discuss this at length because you are interested in the truth.
@oculist2020 For all your psychological mumbo-jumbo which doesn't add up to a hill of beans, the fact is by hook or crook you LOST, deal with it, the confederacy is dead & no matter what perspective you place the facts in you cannot resurrect the dead & that's the bottom line. Secession is a act of treason in which I'm sure you don't want a civil war part 2 since you good-ole-boys claim to be so patriotic, & why bother since you'll just get your asses whupped once again, LOL!
@Just2Intense If you had troubled yourself to read the Confederate States Constitution, you would have realized that it is virtually a carbon copy of the U.S. Constitution. Treason happened in the effort to change the Constitutions intent. Not when the South stood to preserve it.
@Just2Intense As for your implied assertion that the struggle for Liberty is over, and or as you look around you see much worthy of defense, your argument simply has no merit.
@Just2Intense It is with that subservient instrument of the U.S. Constitution, the U.S. government, the South had issues and did battle with, not the U.S. Constitution.
the correct information because the South's side of the story isn't told, so they actually have to study a little bit to know to know the truth, and that's just too hard for them. I'm not a raicst, I have black friends, I'm not Southern, I was born and raised in Michigan. I Just know what I'm talking about and support the rebel flag and the upholding of Democracy and freedom.
was being treated unfairly, not given equal representation in Congress despite there constant requests to have an even say in what went on in the country, especially when it mostly affected them, and the fact they were denied their State's rights to secede from the Union. The Union isn't a gang, if you join something, you have the right to leave it, and trying to force someone to stay is just wrong. The truth, like I just told, isn't known to the ignorant idiots who run their mouths without
... no legitimate reason they had unequal representation in Congress, and they never stood a chance getting what they wanted and needed in order to make money. So eventually, the South had had enough and one by one, began to secede from the Union. They attempted to secede completely peacefully, but Abraham Lincoln sent troops down into the Confederate States of America, knowing they weren't at all welcome and the South fired on them. The war for Southern Independence was over the fact the South
Fuck you guys who are too ignorant to know what the Rebel Flag actually stands for and who are trying to say shit about this guys sister. The South seceeded because The United States began with slavery completely legal and most of the country had slaves. After a while the South's economy was based mostly on slavery, and the North's wasn't anymore because of industrialization. Then a lot of Northerners became abolitionists and protested slavery, and the South was pretty much screwed, because for
The KKK was founded by the Democrats and thus killed 1000's of whites and blacks. Notice I wrote whites and blacks. The Confederate flag was a battle flag flown by blacks and whites fighting the Yankees. The Democrats have steered the flags real origins as a racist flag when in fact it is completely the opposite. It was a flag flown in a war fighting the rich elitist. The same people who have brainwashed the world with their NWO. I'd love to see blacks research the truth and fly it proudly.
It was liberal dems who had slaves, who lynched them, who started the KKK. It was a repub who freed them. Liberal dems who seceded from the Union, liberal dems in the North who supported slavery. Liberal dems that violated the blacks' civil rights. Dr. Martin Luther King, jr., a Republican, didn't fight against the white race, but an evil liberal ideology. One cannot celebrate two opposing flags and systems, for the heart will divide itself.
Wow you do now know a damn thing about me and somehow you think you can just throw around a bunch of stereotypes and resort to name calling to build up your own pathetic ego.
Then again that's the best your sort has isn't it?
I won't stoop to your level, except to say that you have yet to prove any of your bullshit arguments or back them up. I don't expect you actually do so, of course. Your kind can only condemn those who do not share your views...so much for your claims of tolerance.
Fuck the white race of rats?.......fuck the rat race of whites?........fuck the whites the rats?...fuck the race whites of rats?........I GOT IT!! fuck the white race!!!
@genereeper 3% of the confederacy owned slaves. 97% did not. So your saying that 97% percent of the population fought for the other 3% just so those people could own slaves?
@huntingboy2 what school did you go to? Your an idiot, believing anything you hear. Obviously you dont understand facts. You rather listen to all the BS you hear. You live in fear, selfishness and ignorance. Your children only have enough muscle fiber to retreat to the basement and go play video games. No one can spell, no one knows history and no one understands science. You only know how to eat and spend money you haven't earned. And, your Monsanto grains are ruining the planet.
@genereeper I don't have children. And about spending money I havent earned, I'm not even old enough to a job. None of that had anything to do with what I said.
@huntingboy2 What dont you understand? Have you gone to school? You'll find out, what I've told you before. "Confederate flag was used in war to fight FOR slavery", and all were slave owners.
And here I thought it was fought because the Confederate States of America, an independent sovereign nation was invaded by the United States following the firing on Ft. Sumter?
Slavery is a strawman argument. While one can say that secession was done over slavery and economic injustice between the Northern and Southern States, the actual cause of the war was failure to recognize the independence of said Southern States.
@darthroden The CSA was never an independent sovereign nation. It would have to have won the war. The US was under no obligation to recognize the CSA. Last Fort Sumter was built by and maintained by the citizens of the United States. It was federal territory. P. G. T. Beauregard fired on the flag and property of the United States.
Just because the CSA was not recognized by anyone (other than the Pope at the time btw) they were as much a sovereign nation with its own congress and leadership, no less worthy of recognition than the 2nd Continental Congress in 1776.
As for Ft. Sumter, I was under the impression it was built by independent contractors from South Carolina hired by the Federal Government (using slave labor no less).
Also Anderson was given time to leave, he refused.
@darthroden The difference is the Continental Congress was recognized by France and Spain. If that's the impression you have about Fort Sumter, then its wrong. It was built with New England granite and paid for by federal money. It was the property of the United States, and an illegal government in rebellion had no authority to demand its evacuation. Insurrection is illegal under the US Constitution.
Ah but at the actual rebellion of the American Colonies in 1775 the Continental Congress was not recognized by any nation, nor a year later when independence was finally declared.
France and Spain did not recognize American independence until 1778 two years after independence, yet those who fought for the Continental Army sure saw themselves as independent of Britain even if the world did not.
Furthermore the USA did not recognize the Peoples Republic of China for years.
@darthroden Last the Pope (if he did recognize the CSA) was meaningless since at that time he had no authority as a sovereign. Vatican City wasn't recognized as a separate state from Italy until the twentieth century. The Italian government had dissolved the Papal States in the eighteenth century.
@darthroden Still doesn't prove the CSA was a sovereign nation. They could only have done that if they won. All they were was a portion of the US in rebellion, and fortunately the USA suppressed the insurrection, which the Constitution gave them the authority to do.
I suppose when the Native American tribes imprisoned on the reservations the US Government "allowed" them to keep went off of them to reclaim their stolen land that makes them "in rebellion" and the genocide that followed "suppression of insurrection" also?
I suppose the many attempts by the Irish, Zulu Tribes, and Indian Muslim and Hindu factions before they finally managed their own independence was also a "suppression of insurrection" by the British Empire too?
@darthroden Native American sovereignty was recognize by the US under treaty protected by Article Vi of the US constitution. US wasn't stealing territory legally already in its possession in 1861. Don't mention Native sovereignty since the south actually violated it, by the "Trail of Tears", which the SCOTUS forbade them to do.
Those groups mentioned, were in rebellion just like the colonies. What would have happened if France didn't come to their aid and they lost?
The Trail of Tears was the mastermind of the whole USA not just the South, sponsored by one Andrew Jackson, president of the USA at the time...in fact many Southerners opposed it, one David Crockett of Tennessee comes to mind.
Also I might point out that South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia all willingly joined the Union, all with the understanding that they could leave whenever they wished.
@darthroden Andrew Jackson was from the south, and it was the southern states that wanted the Indian Removal Act, which defied Worcester V Georgia 1832. Crockett lost his seat for opposing it, which means his constituents wanted the Cherokees removed. I twist no facts. New York didn't demand we Iroquois leave, in fact we still live there on our own land. Nothing in the Constitution said the south could leave.
Well speaking as someone who has studied constitutional matters for years prior to the War Between The States there was no consensus on the right of secession....nor would there be until 1869 (Brown Vs. Texas). That is why no Confederate leader was ever tried for treason and why the Union couldn't of convicted them in any case.
By right of winning the war the North's view of the Constitution prevailed, though prior to that the South could not be condemned as traitors. It doesn't apply
Furthermore it is an insult to America to suggest that without French recognition the Americans would not have achieve independence.
I mean the names Bunker Hill, Trenton, Princeton, and Saratoga all seem to come to mind, all won before French recognition I might add.
Further, I do not recall the French having much of a role in land battles on American soil (with the exception of Battle of Yorktown), the war being won by Southern men from the Carolinas and Virginia on Southern soil.
@darthroden French recognition no, French aid yes contributed to the British defeat. You really need to read some history. Saratoga was a British blunder that brought the French in. You forget at the time the British held New York and Philadelphia. Up till Yorktown, the British won most of the engagements.
(1) French aid happened before recognition...thanks in no small part to the diplomatic abilities of one Ben Franklin.
Saratoga was a blunder on both sides, won by the heroic efforts of both Benedict Arnold (for which he received no recognition till years later) and Dan Morgan...a Southerner and personal friend of Washington's. The Continental commander Horatio Gates was a fool and an incompetent who got credit by virtue of being commander at the time.
(2) Plus you speak as if holding New York and Philadelphia alone showed the British were winning. Far from it. Every "victory" that General Howe won against Washington weakened the British and Hessian forces. The Americans could get more men from the continent, the British were reduced to importing criminals and conscripted men taken from the prisons and streets in uniform to America....Loyalist support in the colonies did nothing to tilt the balance.
(3) The war was already a bloody stalemate even before the French declared war on the British and joined the American cause.
Even then the French were more interested in taking the Bahamas away from the British rather than allowing French troops to be lead by Washington. Mostly it was naval operations and DeGrasse was too afraid to bring his ships anywhere above Virginia. The British navy, the best in the world at that time, would have wiped the floor with them.
(4) With the stalemate by 1780 the war moved to the Southern Theater, where there were absolutely NO FRENCH TROOPS. After the fall of Charleston in May of that year the British effectively controlled the State of South Carolina except for the courageous actions of men like Francis "Swampfox" Marion and Thomas "Gamecock" Sumter who lead a guerrilla war in the interior, followed by the British defeat at Kings Mountain and Cowpens and Cornwallas retreat into N.Carolina and Virginia.
(5) Fact is even without French help (such as it was) the Americans would have eventually beaten the British via guerrilla warfare in the American interior. With the Native Americans to the western frontier there was no way the colonists could be disarmed, and even if the British held down every major port city on the continent, they would have had a hard time controlling the rest of the continent....American might well have turned into another Ireland or India.
@darthroden You really need to read real history instead of rose colored propaganda. First only a third of the colonists wanted independence. With few exceptions, most of the Natives sided with the British. You forget one of the reasons the war started was over the British halting western expansion over the Appalachians. There were just as many southern loyalist eager to kill Marion and Sumpter as join them. In a war of attrition the British would have won like the US reclaimed the south.
Actually you need to check your facts....it was only about 10% of the Americans at the time that supported Independence from Britain, mostly folks like Sam Adams and others like him.
Halting western expansion? I think you have been drinking the PC cool aid a bit too much dude.
As for the Southern Loyalists you spoke of, yes there were plenty of them...most of which faded out after the near massacre at Kings Mountain if I am not mistaken.
@darthroden I suggest you go back to school before arguing history with your better. The Royal Proclamation of 1763 forbade colonial settlement west of the Appalachians. George III wanted peace with the Native Nations and new western white movement threatened that. Britain interest in the Americas was purely mercantile. The whole war had less to do with freedom then the American merchant class wanted open trade with Europe and didn't want to pay its share for the Seven Years War.
@Eagle027 Word, it is funny simply because the American revolution was originally pushed by merchants and other members of the elite, and I've always found Jefferson's writings so funny as he praised the freedom he had, and that freedom was made possible by slaves.
As for your attrition argument, the British Empire's policies towards the folks it controlled never lead to harmony. Even if the British had put down the Continental Rebellion, it would never have been able to keep the genie of rebellion in the bottle....it sure didn't manage that in South Africa in the 1800s, or India in 1848 or later with Ghandi and Niehru, or Ireland in 1916. One way or another America would never have stayed in British hands.
You listed it as being against tyrants and for freedom - how do you justify that? I'm curious, because it seems extremely contradictory.

@PatchesRips do u think we should ban the US flag since the KKK waves it?
branman864 1 month ago
The Rebel flag! It means to me
Ol' slavery from sea to sea!
To take a stand and to be free
To own black folks eternally!
To buy and sell 'em, whip 'em, too
And sit back with no work to do
Because I make them do it all
And if they ever slow or stall
I'll sell their kids to make 'em blue
(Though odds are good, they're my kids, too >;) )
PatchesRips 2 months ago
@PatchesRips You know, in the largest KKK rally EVER IN US HISTORY in 1926 in washington DC there were more USA flags than confederate flags. Theres pictures of them too. When the USA was founded, all states had slavery. Should the thirteen colonies flag be called a slave flag?
branman864 1 month ago
@branman864 "When the USA was founded, all states had slavery."
No, they didn't. At the adoption of the US Constitution in 1787, only two states north of the Mason-Dixon Line had slavery; New York and New Jersey. By 1804, no state in the North had slavery.
"Should the thirteen colonies flag be called a slave flag?"
Not since Appomattox Courthouse, that's for sure.

Go Union!
P.S. The Union won.
ScreamingFangirl65 7 months ago
Afraid you don’t get it pal Thanks to selective editing of our nations history, the fact that the civil war was fought over states rights, one component being slavery, seems to have been lost over time, more than likely purposefully. Besides, there was never a southern flagged slave ship. ALL the slaves were imported into New York, Massachusetts, and other Northern ports, which is where they were primarily mistreated. A landowner was typically not going to mistreat a slave they paid dearly for.

dave2806 7 months ago
@dave2806 Thank you sir, it is a fact also that the English scared the shit out of Abe Lincoln during the war as well. He was scared that you guys were going to come in guns blazin'.
solaceinstrife 5 months ago
@solaceinstrife They wouldn't have come "guns a-blazin'"; at most they would have broken off commercial and diplomatic ties with the US if it became clear the CSA was viable and the US refused to come to a settlement. Slavery had been illegal in the Empire for two generations by the 1860s; it was opposed by the British people and they would not have gone to war to preserve it elsewhere. To do so would have also caused a breach within the Empire as over 10,000 Canadians were in the Union army.

To these people I say "Don't hide behind your words.. lift up the sheet on your head and let us see you for what you are." Honestly the world is moving to fast for the open racist, closet racist, and the selective ignorant.
405Reign 9 months ago
Now I will be real, some of the people attaching personal feelings are just flat out closet racists. They will give you their pathetic attempt at being politically correct and water down their argument. This of course is in effort to some how justify why holding on to something racists should be accepted. Its bull-ish!
405Reign 9 months ago
I think that most people today understand what racism is and can recognize the symbols associated with it. There are some however that hold on to their personal beliefs associated with racists ideologies and symbols and some how feel their personal feelings supersede what is commonly viewed as flat out racist.

Do you guys know what the Confederate flag stands for? The Confederates were in favor of slavery, a shame that has plagued our great nation. The Union was right to win. The Confederate flag did not stand for hope, or justice, or anything but the right to enslave and to subjugate the black community.
ScreamingFangirl65 9 months ago
@ScreamingFangirl65 does the stars and stripes stand for Jim Crow? Or internment of the Japanese? Or the deportation of American Indians? There's more to people than their worst actions. You need to see both sides. There were no good guys in the Civil War. Only two groups of bad guys fighting for power. Neither government gave a shit about black people, and the ordinary people on both sides of the line were caught in the middle. State power itself is the problem, whatever flag they fly
flythegadsden 9 months ago
@ScreamingFangirl65 I'm proud to say that you're wrong but I realize you're reacting to what you were taught in school or heard from others taught in school or what you seen on TV. Do the research, it's coming to light that the south was not for slavery. The Southern State of Virginia was the first state to try to stop the imports of slaves. Also the Southern slaves remained behind (what didn't help fight) to work on the farms while the men fought. The North's main revenue was importing slaves.

First of all my ignorant friend, there is no "pledge of allegiance" to the Dixie flag, and I too pledge to the US flag.
Second your spelling is horrible, you spell Southern with a capital and trader should be "traitor"...of course being a former US Navy serviceman (discharged honorably I might add) I am certainly no traitor, indeed I think I have done more for this country than you have sitting on your ass typing shit to people who you do not understand.

@lyraca

@lyraca

It's called vanity.
oculist2020 1 year ago
WTF is it when people curse the South and people who stand for what they perceive was a struggle for freedom but fear of having to establish for YOURSELF as an individual your own Liberty? Where you secure in the righteousness of your efforts, you would need not look back a hundred years to a life you where not a part of to claim justification. Justification for what? A "reason" not to earn your own individuality, freedom?
oculist2020 1 year ago
Look, many of you are going to hate me for this because you are afraid. Afraid that it could be true. Rednecks are heavy on individualism. It offends that sense in those that any would demand money, respect and other things that are perceived by rednecks as having to be EARNED. Rednecks don't like ANY people that claim a right to ANYTHING they have not earned, including people of their own race. You don't earn respect by claiming injury and demanding compensation. King didn't do that, why you?
oculist2020 1 year ago

Constitution that that took a waxing, and I know you would prefer to discuss this at length because you are interested in the truth.
oculist2020 1 year ago
@oculist2020 For all your psychological mumbo-jumbo which doesn't add up to a hill of beans, the fact is by hook or crook you LOST, deal with it, the confederacy is dead & no matter what perspective you place the facts in you cannot resurrect the dead & that's the bottom line. Secession is a act of treason in which I'm sure you don't want a civil war part 2 since you good-ole-boys claim to be so patriotic, & why bother since you'll just get your asses whupped once again, LOL!
Just2Intense 1 year ago
@Just2Intense If you had troubled yourself to read the Confederate States Constitution, you would have realized that it is virtually a carbon copy of the U.S. Constitution. Treason happened in the effort to change the Constitutions intent. Not when the South stood to preserve it.

@Just2Intense As for your implied assertion that the struggle for Liberty is over, and or as you look around you see much worthy of defense, your argument simply has no merit.

A war for slavery?

Eagle027 1 year ago
@Eagle027
Actually you are far from right.
Also Anderson was given time to leave, he refused.
darthroden 1 year ago
@darthroden The difference is the Continental Congress was recognized by France and Spain. If that's the impression you have about Fort Sumter, then its wrong. It was built with New England granite and paid for by federal money. It was the property of the United States, and an illegal government in rebellion had no authority to demand its evacuation. Insurrection is illegal under the US Constitution.
Eagle027 1 year ago
@Eagle027
Furthermore the USA did not recognize the Peoples Republic of China for years.
darthroden 1 year ago
@darthroden Last the Pope (if he did recognize the CSA) was meaningless since at that time he had no authority as a sovereign. Vatican City wasn't recognized as a separate state from Italy until the twentieth century. The Italian government had dissolved the Papal States in the eighteenth century.
Eagle027 1 year ago
@Eagle027
I never said the Pope's recognition meant anything, though it did prove that the CSA (or at least Jefferson Davis) had some powerful friends.
darthroden 1 year ago
@darthroden Still doesn't prove the CSA was a sovereign nation. They could only have done that if they won. All they were was a portion of the US in rebellion, and fortunately the USA suppressed the insurrection, which the Constitution gave them the authority to do.
Eagle027 1 year ago
@Eagle027
I suppose when the Native American tribes imprisoned on the reservations the US Government "allowed" them to keep went off of them to reclaim their stolen land that makes them "in rebellion" and the genocide that followed "suppression of insurrection" also?
I suppose the many attempts by the Irish, Zulu Tribes, and Indian Muslim and Hindu factions before they finally managed their own independence was also a "suppression of insurrection" by the British Empire too?
darthroden 1 year ago
@darthroden Native American sovereignty was recognize by the US under treaty protected by Article Vi of the US constitution. US wasn't stealing territory legally already in its possession in 1861. Don't mention Native sovereignty since the south actually violated it, by the "Trail of Tears", which the SCOTUS forbade them to do.
Those groups mentioned, were in rebellion just like the colonies. What would have happened if France didn't come to their aid and they lost?
Eagle027 1 year ago
@Eagle027
Wow nice way to twist the facts.
The Trail of Tears was the mastermind of the whole USA not just the South, sponsored by one Andrew Jackson, president of the USA at the time...in fact many Southerners opposed it, one David Crockett of Tennessee comes to mind.
Also I might point out that South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia all willingly joined the Union, all with the understanding that they could leave whenever they wished.
darthroden 1 year ago
@darthroden Andrew Jackson was from the south, and it was the southern states that wanted the Indian Removal Act, which defied Worcester V Georgia 1832. Crockett lost his seat for opposing it, which means his constituents wanted the Cherokees removed. I twist no facts. New York didn't demand we Iroquois leave, in fact we still live there on our own land. Nothing in the Constitution said the south could leave.
Eagle027 1 year ago
@Eagle027
It doesn't apply
darthroden 1 year ago
@Eagle027
Furthermore it is an insult to America to suggest that without French recognition the Americans would not have achieve independence.
I mean the names Bunker Hill, Trenton, Princeton, and Saratoga all seem to come to mind, all won before French recognition I might add.
Further, I do not recall the French having much of a role in land battles on American soil (with the exception of Battle of Yorktown), the war being won by Southern men from the Carolinas and Virginia on Southern soil.
darthroden 1 year ago
@darthroden French recognition no, French aid yes contributed to the British defeat. You really need to read some history. Saratoga was a British blunder that brought the French in. You forget at the time the British held New York and Philadelphia. Up till Yorktown, the British won most of the engagements.
Eagle027 1 year ago
@Eagle027
The Continental commander Horatio Gates was a fool and an incompetent who got credit by virtue of being commander at the time.
darthroden 1 year ago
@Eagle027
(2) Plus you speak as if holding New York and Philadelphia alone showed the British were winning. Far from it. Every "victory" that General Howe won against Washington weakened the British and Hessian forces. The Americans could get more men from the continent, the British were reduced to importing criminals and conscripted men taken from the prisons and streets in uniform to America....Loyalist support in the colonies did nothing to tilt the balance.
darthroden 1 year ago
@Eagle027
The British navy, the best in the world at that time, would have wiped the floor with them.
darthroden 1 year ago
@Eagle027
(4) With the stalemate by 1780 the war moved to the Southern Theater, where there were absolutely NO FRENCH TROOPS. After the fall of Charleston in May of that year the British effectively controlled the State of South Carolina except for the courageous actions of men like Francis "Swampfox" Marion and Thomas "Gamecock" Sumter who lead a guerrilla war in the interior, followed by the British defeat at Kings Mountain and Cowpens and Cornwallas retreat into N.Carolina and Virginia.
darthroden 1 year ago
@Eagle027
(5) Fact is even without French help (such as it was) the Americans would have eventually beaten the British via guerrilla warfare in the American interior. With the Native Americans to the western frontier there was no way the colonists could be disarmed, and even if the British held down every major port city on the continent, they would have had a hard time controlling the rest of the continent....American might well have turned into another Ireland or India.
darthroden 1 year ago
@darthroden You really need to read real history instead of rose colored propaganda. First only a third of the colonists wanted independence. With few exceptions, most of the Natives sided with the British. You forget one of the reasons the war started was over the British halting western expansion over the Appalachians. There were just as many southern loyalist eager to kill Marion and Sumpter as join them. In a war of attrition the British would have won like the US reclaimed the south.
Eagle027 1 year ago
@Eagle027
Actually you need to check your facts....it was only about 10% of the Americans at the time that supported Independence from Britain, mostly folks like Sam Adams and others like him.
Halting western expansion? I think you have been drinking the PC cool aid a bit too much dude.
As for the Southern Loyalists you spoke of, yes there were plenty of them...most of which faded out after the near massacre at Kings Mountain if I am not mistaken.
darthroden 1 year ago
@darthroden I suggest you go back to school before arguing history with your better. The Royal Proclamation of 1763 forbade colonial settlement west of the Appalachians. George III wanted peace with the Native Nations and new western white movement threatened that. Britain interest in the Americas was purely mercantile. The whole war had less to do with freedom then the American merchant class wanted open trade with Europe and didn't want to pay its share for the Seven Years War.
Eagle027 1 year ago 2
@Eagle027 Word, it is funny simply because the American revolution was originally pushed by merchants and other members of the elite, and I've always found Jefferson's writings so funny as he praised the freedom he had, and that freedom was made possible by slaves.
HearingEveryRhyme 1 year ago
@Eagle027
