  • Android already has several augmented reality apps

  • @CarbineGuy this is a 3yr old video

  • :-)

  • cool

  • that WOULD Be Awsome !

  • Such application with Augmented Reality are already "reality" on android like Layar. But with navigation. Maybe google will come up with something like that. They already have street view etc.

But then, it will be on android first.. maybe later on the iPhone.

  • Completely useless video. Why place the phone (or the camera) so that you don´t see a damn thing. This video was supposedly meant to demonstrate AR. So I´d have liked to see matching outside and on-screen activities (if you know what I mean).

    Pan. (Germany)

  • What kind of iPhone car kit is that?? It holds your iPhone with the case on?!! Please tell me where you got it from!

  • wtf!

  • wow the iphone is the greatest technolgy ever created i think i might actually get the iphone now , and to think 80 years ago the best thing was a radio wow just wow iv'e never been more blown away by all the iphone apps iv'e seen than anything ever.

  • @themasterfulbassist You know that such thing was fake right? and you better buy android. Because Augmented reality is more used on the android.

  • It can also provide the location of empty spots among the parked cars...

  • There's a very cool iPhone app called Satellite Augmented Reality. It has a database of over 370 geo sats and lets you view where they are in the sky. It also calculates the azimuth and elevation angles for you based on your location. In addition, it lets you enter a virtual location in order to see what the satellite view would be in, say China, if you are in the US.

  • Although I think this video is a mockup, I believe such an application is possible. Just look at my quick'n'dirty video response.

  • Great job joachim! Might put your project on the blog.

  • what it is this crap navigation

  • the comment says conceptual....Augmented reality is now here however not as good as that (in terms of smoothness)

  • This is fake plus this was made before the iPhone 3g came out and the iPhone 2g did not have a gps

  • @fred10002 are you so retarded that you can not read or are you just to lazy. i suggest you read the info box on the right of your screen...

  • its pointless anyway when u have te voice telling u when to turn whats the point of looking at it

  • it looks like fake

  • It's a conceptual video to show how this could work with navigation, of course then it's 'fake'!

But the idea behind this is great!

This would make the iPhone the most precise navigaton system ever! Because the camera in combination with GPS would allow to determine the position for, I don't want to lie, but 20-30cm or even less! Everyone who used a GPS system knows it's not that precise!

  • its real...augmented reality is the new thing

  • Battery...

  • Charger...

  • Looks nice, but do I really need it?

  • Do you really need lightsaber, pour the beer or shake the phone to make it fart apps?

No not really, but they are always top of the download charts...

  • you dont even need a iphone "really":

  • You dont know much about GPS eh..

The camera is mostly there for the user,as output

Just extra features like road sign recognition would use the camera as an input

You can already use programs like Layar to plot known information over live camera input

And GoogleMaps Streetview with Compasmode on lets you see the chosen area as you move your phone around (you point to North=>streetview turns realtime to North, you point to the floor=> you see the street etc:-)

    Combine the 2 and..wow!

  • This would be absolutely awesome...

The only thing...I think we'll need one more iPhone update, just to double the speed once again, before this kind of app gets really interesting...

  • wow

    i think

  • show off lol

  • It definately could. I know my 3GS could easily handle that. In fact, there lots of augmented reality apps on there way. Mark my words, you will see a Nav app like this. I'm an iphone developer and the 3.1 beta 3 enables apps to make use of augmented reality. Wouldn't really use any more resources than a navigation app such as Sygic or the upcoming Tom Tom app

  • I'm not entirely convinced you know what you're talking about...

  • very nice concept, i have just blogged about it. hope to see some more soon!

and reyuken you are right! too bad that you are heh

  • Dude, you don't have a camera on the iPod Touch!

  • Or gps, which is more important than the cam.

  • crazy shit

  • there is no such thing like that yet for iPhone or any other GPS.

that's just as far as i know :)

  • Actually, plenty apps and services such as The Tube have made these kinds of things, and they are looking pretty awesome. Just another reason why the iPhone is the best device to get nowadays...

  • bye bye Garmin & Tomtom

  • I like the concept. Thumbs up.

  • bad movie... easy to fake.

  • Who ever mentioned this was real? It's a CONCEPTUAL video.

  • Can I get this for iPod touch?!?!?! Just kidding.

  • were can i buy this Navigation for my iphone 8gb

  • I believe its a demo of what COULD soon be possible, but currently isn't, at least at an affordable price anyway.

  • This is what we need; Technology that evolves as you use it. You see this kinda stuff in sci-fi films and in really expensive high-tech museums of ideas that are never made full use for the public or you just make it yourself.

We have the super technology to create the things this world so desperately needs, so whats the problem? Money. It's always goddamn money. Are own bodies can't keep up with technology these days. How we heal slowly.

I think our bodies are trying to tell us something.

  • Technology is always atleast 4 years ahead of what we actually know.

But the only reason we arent getting it right now is they want to give you it in steps so they can make the maximum of money out of it.

The thing shown above can be easily produced by any large company, will they do that? , no because all companys that made tomtoms or garmins or whatever will stop earning money in an instant.

Or they would have to make it verry pricy to keep making money of out current GPS's.
