  • Very nice

  • The original singer singing the background with Brenda is a great guy named Joe Esposito from a group called Brooklyn Dreams who sang background for Donna Summer. I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt it! HA HA! Brenda is wonderfully brilliant and talented artist.

  • love this songs

  • very nice sound...

  • Thanks for your voice Brenda!

  • Brenda Russell is one of the greatest singers of her time. Her rendition of If Only For One Night is truly brilliant!

  • Pictures of you

  • WOW JAMES INGRAM & MICHAEL MACDONALD SINGING BACKGROUND VOCALS--BANANAS!!!!!

  • i love this songs bring back memories...80s the best...

  • I'm into this song becouse I have been THERE in a relationship that was not working ,..no matter how much I tried,..HAVE TO BE STRONG & WALK AWAY!!~!

  • Listening to pure artistry is such a treat. It's a stellar song accompanied by a very talented woman. Many thanks to Brenda.

  • I really love it, thanks for the post..

  • musica linda,decada de 80 show!

  • Essa musica é muito linda,década de 80 show,boas lembranças!

  • Muito show,linda musica,linda voz,bons tempos,saudades!

  • Apparently I was mistaken. A personal reply from (whom I hope is the real) Brenda Russell corrected me. My apologies. If it really is you, I would like you to know how much I love this song. I listen to it daily.

  • I thinks it's better than the studio version...

  • Que voz linda, principalmente no final da música parece um canto divino.

A gravação ao vivo ficou tão linda quanto a original.

  • I am going to bring this back alive! What happen to a sista? Where is Brenda Russell? Beautiful Song. That was way back then at least 21 yrs ago!

  • They don't make songs like this anymore

  • Larry Williams in not playing the piano in this video clip. He died in 1980 and this concert was held in 1992. Mr. Williams was black. The guy playing the piano is white and has long, blond hair.

  • @CasseroleLand you are misinformed I'm afraid. This IS Larry Williams, yes, the caucasian one with long blonde hair:) fairly common name. I know because I'm Brenda Russell, and Larry is VERY much alive.:)

    sorry about the other Larry.

  • @1233rosie How is you mother? I knew you and her from Oxnard in the mid-90's... If it's you, what spice was she named for...? If it's you, I love this song (well even if it's not you) and thought how sexy and amazingly talented you are... got to see you live at Hard Rock in late 1996... loved it.

  • Lovely, Really Lovely, Ms. Brenda Russell with a star studded group of Lee Ritenour on guitar, Larry Williams on piano, James Ingram and Michael McDonald as back-up singers and just imagine who could the other members of the band be, they must be really famous as well. I went through all 200+ comments just to make sure as i'm still in awe and disbelief. I've always liked this song but only now have i really listened to it and its deep meaning. Truly a timeless classic.

  • @Steadylahbabe Isn't is nice to hear great musicians play great tunes

  • @Steadylahbabe thank you so much! Brenda

  • this song isnt about paying for sex like a lot of you think it is.... and I hope none of you pay for sex... there is plenty of pussy out there.. NEVER PAY

  • the end of a relationship... sad, but realistic

  • Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!

  • beautiful song....better performance

  • this song is really good just wonderful !!!!! a hug from Brazil.

  • @Tjakowsky1974 - Actually she is saying that she has to walk away. Remember when she says "I cry just a little when I think of letting go". Not to mention that she says it several times at the end when she says "I can't let go" as if she wants to but her man is strumming her emotional heart strings just by the sound and the scene she's witnessing as he plays. It's a story of what we go through in our last moments of indecisiveness. Truly a classic!

  • beautiful and a beautiful voice.

  • Lee Ritenour, James Ingram and Michael McDonald providing accompaniment to Ms. Russell... this is great! :D

  • Amazing Woman, Amazing Song. How can anyone dislike this song?

  • @dmcrra - You just can't dislike it. One would have to be either be close minded, lyrically and melodically challenged or tone def not to appreciate it. It's beautiful and timeless, isn't it?

  • Awsome Song,Performance, and BEAUTIFUL EBONY PRINCESS

  • Stupenda è basta!!!!

  • Powerful. Beautiful. Whenever I'm feeling stressed or down, I listen to Brenda. She uplifts me with her powerful and evocative strains taking me back to my youth. . . love you Brenda x

  • When I first heard this song I could relate to the powerful feeling. Going through a divorce and losing love is a series of powerful emotions. "Knowing this is when I'm gonna make my move"

  • class class class the best ever xxxxx

  • i love you brenda

  • She started out reserved then busted out.

  • This song is about to make me cry, it's beautiful

  • i wanna do her.....like doggy style?

  • She is sexy

  • Gosto muito dessa música!

  • where have all the good songs like this gone? miss those years when music is a language of love.. and inspiration.. and this is one of them.. so magnificent... great voice.. great lyrics.. great emotions

  • @chryssanthemum you're absolutely right with every single word you say

  • @schlakokaki yep... i know.. really miss those years when music is not an object of marketing, of money.. and songs were created to express how people feel.. :)

  • @chryssanthemum Music still is, we're just bombarded by constant advertising that has increased over the years. Most musicians play for themselves - - I think it's fair to say that. Most musicians have a deeper connection to music than money or else they wouldn't be able to convey great songs with reflective feelings.

  • @Prolite yeah i hope so... though some still do it for the love of music, but some, not all, just revive some great classics not for the mere reason of re-living those magical years of music.. , just my opinion.. :) hope you're havin a great time in here..

  • i listen to this song every single day...greatest song ever made in my opinion...she's singing to me! :-)

  • This was my cutt!!! Love this song!!!

  • come on nina is good also ....it is a hard song to do a cover .....and nina did a good job ....each of the two versions is good in their own way ....brenda is brenda and nina is ...well ....she is good also....

  • I can hear this song one million times and I'm willing to hear it one million times more. Simply excellent!

  • We still have these stars...we should celebrate the sh*t out of them. Lee Ritenour has to the best of the best Jazzers anymore..my guitar is the red 335 Lee has.

  • Beautiful, flawless, perfect! This song is still nothing but love for me. Wish we had more McDonalds, Rusells, Ingrams, Loggins, and Fischers around these days.

  • I agree ory. Well put.

  • Oryfan I couldn't agree more. This whole generation will be missed someday when they leave us, we'll be stuck with crap today. These guys and gals are the real deal and I can't hear enuf of them.

  • WOw theres Micheal McDonald as back up voice... Cool

  • nina sucks!!!, brenda is way better

    original is always the best

    She's a talent !

  • its cool to see the other singers singing background for her.

  • James Ingram and Michael mcDonald!!!

  • Perfect voice!!! She's a talent.

  • Beautifully written song...

  • make no mistake..this is not a love song you cuddle to..it's the quiet but final resolve of a woman (or man) who is finally fully ready, willing, AND FULLY ABLE to let go of dead weight in her (or his) life. It is a song about the last moments in the death of a relationship, the moment when it finally, truly, dies. Masterfully sung by a wordsmith who is up for the challenge of bringing it all into one song. Excellently sung by a beautiful woman, inside and out, This song is extremely powerful.

  • sI do believe you are a little bit off on that one, as to thinking about what this song means!!!

  • @thegenie1 Very well said.

  • @thegenie1 yes you have hit it dead on

  • @thegenie1 I I agree when you first start, but then... The relationship is not dead.

  • @Tjakowsky1974 It most certainly is, on the singer's end, at least...Love never dies, to be sure, but when someone is truly letting go, it's truly over, in the singer's point of view......cry just a little, does not mean posessed, it means "just a little longer", but it's not sustainable in that state....again, the certain death of the relationship......with true caring mixed in.....

  • @thegenie1 do you know who she sound a little like>

    Nona hendryx

    Vesta Williams

    Valerie Simpson

chaka khan.................................i would say Nikki from brownstone lol.

  • @maxday1000 she look alittle like chaka khan tho

  • @NewWorldRob yes..........lol.

  • @maxday1000 haha I dunno if I do remember, Is she on YT ? I mi have ta search it up.

this is alittle unrelated but whats your top 5 most hated songs ever ??

and then maybe 5 favorite ever

  • @NewWorldRob remember corona the tech-no singer...........thats who she also reminds me of lol.

  • @thegenie1 You might want to listen to the lyrics around the four minute mark.

Sounds like you are reading into this song something that's not there.

  • @Smanuto so NOT about paying for sex, not sure how you got there, it's about a woman trying to leave a very gifted pianist and when he plays, she just can't walk away.

  • @1233rosie I have no idea what you are talking about.

  • This is such a BEAUTIFUL song... I remember hearing this song as a young child, but I NEVER knew the name or artist. I had been looking for it on YouTube, Google, and ITUNES, and could find it, then one day last week, I just stumbled aross it. I was uber happy.

  • Love this

  • yup i agree!!!!!!!!!!! 80's ballads were the best and is still the best!!

  • CLASSIC, CLASSIC, CLASSIC!!!!I listen to this song and I feel out of this world. Its breath taking, shes got an incredible voice, very soothing. TRUE DIVA Songs like this should get more airplay. 80s still have the best ballads. Shes gifted. Amazing song.

  • This was always one of my all time favorite joints! It just takes you there, u know...you picture yourself with your lover..in the night...with the breeze coming through the window...with this song playing in the background...lol.
