Many weapons are made the same. The AK is a sweet weapon but there is no such thing as the perfect weapon. AK have good accuracy up to 200m but AR's have good accuracy up to 500m Ak has much more knockdown than a AR but an AR round will bounce around in you. Hard to choose just one.

No it is not. The M16 still lighter, more accurate and more modular than the AK-74. The only pro the AK-74 has over the M16 is reliability, while the M16 has a 3:1 pro/con ratio.

Not quite true - the Slavs are a mixture of Iranian, Baltic, and Finnish people. Genetics, conducted research and found virtually a single community of Slovenes, Croats north, Slovaks, Ukrainians, Belorussians and Russian. A little further are the Poles and Czechs. Even more are South Slavs. Perhaps the Kalashnikov is the Finnish admixture, but this does not mean that it is the Udmurt. You throw out of your head stupid thoughts about the Turks and Roma. Europeans do not want to assimilate Arabs, Turks, and Negro, so that their communities will continue to grow. This is a big problem for Europe. Unless you want originality, just get a cheap WASR that is NOT assembled by Century Arms rather just imported by them and your good to go. I have an Arsenal which is a Saiga made in russia and just converted in America. Other than that, it is from Russia.

No it is not. The M16 still lighter, more accurate and more modular than the AK-74. The only pro the AK-74 has over the M16 is reliability, while the M16 has a 3:1 pro/con ratio.
However, I do respect the AK-74 weapon. It is a much better improvement over the AK-47.

The AK-74 is definitely an upgrade. Better gas system and all. Besides, .22 caliber high velocity bullets are proven to be more lethal than high powered rifle rounds, that explains the 5.56x45mm/5.45x39mm/ect

The way the Germans "helped" with his design is that they made the world's first assault rifle and started using an intermediate cartridge. One could equally say that the West copied the Russian T-34 tank being that they developed sloped armor.

In fact, many germans ANd russians were never given the title "sniper", they just used that method as it was best in their particular circumstances, such as Stalingrad. It's my understanding that the term sniper came from brits in the 19th century setting up rookies by sending them out to shoot "snipes", a fictional bird.

Yes, you are correct regarding the origins, except the bird isn't fictional, as the Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago) is a member of a family of wading birds. The ghillie suit has its origins in Scotland by game keepers to counter poachers on the estates in the Scottish highlands.

This is a specialty in most armies, but in the US Army, this is not done by SF because both the green berets and the USMC sniper program (which, apparently, the Army's program was modeled on) were developed separately but concurrently. The geurilla nature of combat in both Iraq and Afghanistan continues to make it not only a viable method, but a necessity, as it was in 'Nam.

@varanid9 No, I am refering to a sniper, as in the true sense of the word, and soldier trained in concealment, and able to kill with a purpose made rifle beyond the range of an assualt rifle. British army snipers are not SF, nor are they part of the SAS, but SAS soldiers are trained as snipers by British army sniper instructors, which makes SAS snipers possibly the best SF snipers in the world. BTW, IIRC the USMC sniper program was modelled on the British army sniper training program.

My point is, a sniper in the "truest sense of the word" may be different things in different services. The russian frontline sniper would be referred to by us as a "designated marksmen", for instance.
