That one music teacher who sarcastically says, "This is the best job in the world..." I don't understand why teacher's like this continue. They are not happy and they certainly can't be effective if that's their attitude. All involved would be better off if "teachers" like that would move on. I say this as a NYC Teaching Fellow (music teacher also) going into year 5. I've experienced the stress, but a dedicatd teacher will find ways to engage the kids and be happier themselves.

Children must educate themseves, reading books, watching videos, visiting web sites, or sharing with friends.
School is mostly to socialize and learn social skills, and civic discipline.
Academic achievement comes through self education 70% and schools 30%.
Schools should talk openly about God, Faith, Morality, and love. Then kids bevavoir would be different.

My other concern is lack of urban culture and diversity culture on many of the teachers behalfs. Praise those teachers who know were the kids are coming from and their cultures.

My problem is suburban white teachers coming in thinking kids can't behave or learn unless they adapt a mainstream culture, and I went to a ghetto school for 13 yrs.
