Totally agree with Ron Paul here. I receive financial aid for college, even though I don't agree with the system. I see tons of financial aid money wasted on people who don't take college seriously... I hate that! But I'll be damned if I let the government hoard taxpayers' money when it can be going to my education that I actually take seriously. Why are people so hard headed about understanding why terrorists attack us? Do they honestly believe that the only reason terrorists attack us is because we're rich and free? Is it more likely that people are willing to kill themselves for a foolish reason like that, or because they have had family members killed as a result of our occupation in the middle east, and because of our meddling in their affairs? We need to stop placing ourselves on a pedestal and believing everything we do is right
Such simple thoughts from the idiot interviewing Ron Paul. When someone steals from you, you have every right to steal it back. What you want to do is stop them from stealing from you in the first place but in the meantime, are you going to let them continue stealing?
He asked as tough of questions as he could and he still got Verbally raped by Paul.... Paul destroyed him, with facts, histroy, and common sense... I think Russert had no clue what he was getting into.
katrina; he was making a point that federal gov't is too big. We hate them for regulating & taking our $, but when something bad happens we run to them.
Russert was the toughest on the MSM, He could have given more time for Paul to explain how freedom works, if your not familiar with the philosophy, then our ideas seem scary.
The question about public schools had no relevance to a candidate running for national office. "Would you abolish public schools"---"No dumbshit, because as president of the United States I do not have the authority to do so. Schools are a local function, not national!"
First of all, he is not my god, he is just the only respectable man on capital hill, and those are not just tough questions , he did not treat Obama or McCain like this, its MSNBC trying to brush off Ron Paul as crazy. But Ron went through with flying colors.
They did the same thing to McCain, using his own quotes/statements from the past against him. So I think you're being a litte too sensitive when it comes to your Ron Paul.
Treating him like some fragile thing. What I saw here is Ron Paul getting challanged a bit and it was the right thing to do. Ron Paul usually likes to swim under the radar, and make statements nobody ever challanges because he never was a serious contender for nomination like Hillary, OBama & McCain. And u guys eat it up.
The difference between Mccant and Paul are reasons of sanity, McCain is some sick fuck who is a neocon, believes in gun control, bail outs. Ron Paul is a very qualified contender of the presidency who stands for the people and the issues, "RP likes to swin under stuff" - Yeah, sure, he is the most outspoken constitutionalist in congress and debates often.
Serious contender? Yeah Obama, the liar who said he would end the war and continues it, thats serious, your a joke.
I said, "swim under the radar", never hears of the expression. Calm down and stop getting your panties twisted, overreacting. What you said had nothing to do with what I said. Bottom line is they treated McCain the same as Ron Paul, challanging him....plain simple. YOur politics and what you think of McCain or Obama don't interest me, I just pointed out that your fragile Ron Paul wasn't getting treated any worse then anybody else.
Thats not my politics its Mccains, thats bullshit, McCain was put on every debate and put on the center stage for the USA, Ron Paul was excluded from the debates, shunned by Fox news, and ignored from the mainstream media, thats a fact. McCain was never excluded from a debate, so don't bullshit me to say they were treated fairly. Panties twisted? I have been in to many bad situations to be scared of something on YT.
Idiot, was he excluded from NBC's Meet the Press??? Was he?
NO HE WASN'T, because that's what we're talking about. you lack comprehension sunny.
He got a fair shake on Meet the press like everybody else and he got challanged. Now maybe you would've liked the interviewer to kiss his ass and ask him softball questions, but that's now how it goess on Meet the press.
Deal with it and step your comprehension skills up.
I was not talking about just this interview, I was talking about overall, you need to be more specific, and no these were not soft ball questions and I would not like it if they were, Its just that the tone of Tim is not appropriate. And Tim Russert was ordered to be more Obama biased and that is a fact, it leaked everywhere remember. It was a ok interview, but could have been much better, when they could have got to the real issues.
@cupocity303 Oh he asked tough questions but he got FAR better answers. Tis a shame they would not grill everyone this hard.... If that were the case we would never have fools in office like MacCain, or Obama....
The money that is not allocated by the Reps will instead be left to the Executive branch to spend. In other words, if Rep. Paul were to not allocate any money through earmarks, that would not cut spending in any way and on top of that he would be denying his district of any return on their tax dollars. Russert is being plain dishonest to his viewers by not relating that fact or letting Rep Paul refute it.
The lack of understanding that Russert displays here with regard to earmarks is just sad. He sits there for 3 minutes erroneously accusing Rep. Paul of a double standard and then interrupts him when Rep. Paul tries to speak. When a spending bill is going through the Congress, the House Representatives have a certain apportionment of the budget to allocate which they do through 'earmarks'. Whatever the Reps do not allocate, that money doesn't come out of the bill. It will still be spent.CONT^
I wouldn't mind Ron Paul if his supporters weren't so nuts (ie, posters here who are glad Tim Russert is dead because... y'know, he asked Ron Paul tough questions. Paul isn't god, losers. He's a politician.)
As a very strong Obama supporter, I almost think I would vote for Ron Paul, over Obama.. i don't think Obama is a bad man.. but i agree very much with Ron Paul.. this guy is very real, and down to earth, and he really understands economics and our constitution.
They're not polar opposites.. neither one thinks we should police the world.. they're both intelligent men, that think things through. Ron Paul is an opposite when it comes to wanting to get rid of a lot of government instituitions, and wanting to balance the budget. Neither one are warhawks, though.
like i said.. Ron Paul is an opposite when it comes to wanting to abolish a lot of government instituitions.. and yes i realize the fed is independant, but you know what I mean. I'm for gun control.. there's no point in letting every crazy be allowed to carry guns.
"There's no point in letting every crazy be allowed to carry guns"
Um, well aside from the fact that it's IN THE CONSTITUTION which is the supreme law of the land! Also, they don't sell to people with criminal records. If you want to get an amendment passed banning the sale of guns to people, fine by me. But until then, the congress cannot simply circumvent the constitution and pass whatever laws they see fit!
That doesn't mean there's much of a point to it. We can all stock up on shotguns and semi-automatics until we're blue in the face.. what's the point? We're completely incapable of overthrowing the government with it's mass weaponry, at this point..
"we're completly incapable of overthrowing the government"; ask the afghanis who fought the soviets to a standstill in the 80s, or the vietnamese, or any number of "guerilla" fighters who fought an overwhelming force and won. its not the size of the man in the fight. its the size of the fight in the man.
What?? The afghanis didn't do that in the 80s.. WE DID THAT for them.. the vietnamese? I'm sorry.. that war wasn't won by anyone..
When we start getting tanks, bullet proof cars, aircraft carriers, nuclear weapons, f-16s, and so on.. then i'll share that sentiment that we can overthrow our government.
they beat the british empire, look up the the 1916 rising in Ireland. They won the nation independance in 26 counties and eventually civil rights in the other 6. So politics, mixed with guerrilla warfare works.
Obama IS an interventionist. He does believe in policing the world&he wants to double wasteful and ineffective foreign aid.Obama also wants to pour more troops into Afghanistan. When has Obama ever said anything in depth&serious about monetary policy?Has he ever talked about abolishing or at least putting some serious Congressional oversight on the Federal Reserve? As for gun control,Obama has stated he favors a complete ban of concealed carry, among many other extreme measures on a federal level.
I dont think Russert was being aggressive at all. At least Russert would let Paul to explain even after Russert cut him off. But Russert was supposed to get owned, b/c he was the guy who posed the questions, and the interviewers were supposed to have the answers for the questions.
MY TAX PLAN!!!! No Fed Income Tax. 15% Flat State Income Tax. Allow 5% writeoffs. The other 5% you would decide as you file for taxes. The 5% would be given to the state to decides with. The State then would pay a 15% Tax to The FedGovt. The FedGovt would be given that money to decide with. Tax Rebates would be baised on Congress ability to spend less. What ever is left over goes to the citizens. Large Reserve Military Smaller Active Fed Military. VOTE ME 2012!!!!!!!
But the thing is that Paul didn't put up an alternative bill.
So its great that he votes against everything on principle but I'm not sure there would ever be an economics bill that he would ever vote for.
Imagine someone running a company on a borad of directors just voting against everything without even looking at it. That company wouldn't last long would it
@vapatriot2 The reason that our country is going bankrupt is because morons like you are more concerned with giving health care to illegals as well as other entitlement programs, rather than promote personal responsibility. That is why republicans have wiped the floor with democrats in the last 30 years.
I don't think you went deep enough in understanding his economic position. How many politicians you know would vote for the abolishment of the IRS? How many politicians you know would vote for getting rid of the Federal Reserve? Paul basically wants all commerce out of the federal government so instead of serving special business interests, it will focus its service on the people.
@indyleftist The reason our country is going bankrupt is morons like you give entitlement programs to illegals, such as health care. Your more considered with giving freebies that don't want to work for a living because it makes you feel good. Shut your dumb mouth.
Ron Paul and fellow Austrian economics subscriber Peter Schiff were among the only ones who predicted the economic collapse way before it happened. If you don't believe me look it up.... type in Ron Paul predicted and you will be educated.
The bank oligarchs, the Federal reserve, and the current system of Corporatism in America are what helped the collapse happen with artificially low interest rates encouraging over-investment in the housing market. Learn about it yourself!!
I support Ron Paul but he done a terrible job defending himself and his views. He needed to be more firm. He needed to put these reporters in their place.
Im a Paul fan but I believe Russert does a fair interview especially bringing up federal funding if you want Paul to go somewhere big you must get all the negatives out there so the neo cons cant exploit them later better Russert than them
The problem is most people don't understand earmarks and federal funding. I don't even think Tim did. The Government steel money through taxes, then return some, and Paul votes against it, but if he doesn't put in money for his district it would go to the Executive branch, so he is forced to. Like he said, the whole thing is a sham.
Tim Russert's philosophy of journalism: Study the person you're interviewing, learn everything about them, and TAKE THE OTHER SIDE. By challenging Paul's views, he's did nothing more or less than his job. Watch more of his interviews, and I think you'll find he is equally tough on everyone. As he should be; politicians have to be kept accountable for their beliefs; to prove that their platforms have substance.
I'm a fan of Russert, but he did go with a low blow when he said, "That's like saying 'I voted for it before I voted against it'" in reference to Kerry's "flip-flopping." Oh well, Tim gave em' all hell. RIP T.R.
I agree that Tim Russert is tough on his guests...BUT i've never seen this type of treatment to any of his guests. I suppose Ron Paul has such a clean record that Tim Ruseert had to pull shit out of his ass and make it seem factual. It's sad the man died, but he'll always have critics no matter what. That's the beauty of freedom of speech
You guys are completely misunderstanding Tim Russert's style of interviewing. He said it himself, he tries to learn and understand the views of the people he is interviewing and then take the opposite viewpoint going into the interview.
Ron Paul fuckin nutjobs your an embarrasment. By the way I voted for the man Ron Paul but his you tube followers need therapy. Tim Russert was a real journalist and that should be really appreciated now that he is gone.
You guys are all idiots. If you watch Meet The Press regularly, you'd know that Tim always puts his guests in a corner to get better answers. I think Tim ansked tough questions that Ron Paul answered really well.
Russert? Is that the interviewer? Sorry, i gave up tradional news 25 yrs. ago when I realized it was a lie. He must be the stupidest, no, biggest boot licker abound! He doesn't even comment on Dr. Paul's brillant answers!...1st meeting of cabinet members when R we going to bomb Iraqu? He puts his head down in shame then flips to a misquote? Dr. Paul wants to save $ & HAS A PLAN to do so & Russert defends big gov't. I could go on...
Seeing that your over 25 years old, I think I and a lot of people here especially Russerts family would appreciate it if you showed some respect to the dead. He'll be remembered for a lot of years to come, where when you die I doubt relatives will mention you over coffee on sunday mornings.
Russert..overweight Neo fart....he needed to go..its about time we purge incompetent reporters in the mainstream media. i say o'rieally is next then maybe ann coulter or hannity...
Russert was an ass. He was cocky and arrogant this whole interview and this is nothing but an attack on Dr. Paul. Ron Paul, being the gentleman that he is, sticks to the message at hand, liberty, small government, and the Constitution. Tim comes out looking like a fool.
yeah, all evidence points to neocon asshole. targeting a man just because he puts himself out there by de-contextualizing everything he says, meanwhile playing nice with all of the centrist contenders--seems pretty old hat. sorry the man died so young but the praise seems a bit overblown.
Run Paul was 100% right on foreign policy, but if he had a Democrat domestic foreign policy agenda he would have got massive support from the Democrats. He had a strong young bipartisan coaition of supporters based on foreign policy in cutting excessive military spending which all countries from US to Iran should pursue.
Russert was just another CFR pro-welfare-warfare statist scumbag cheerleader.
See how the scum did their all to marginalize the ONLY candidate telling the truth, while they all lavish praise on CFR/NWO member puppets Hillary, Obama & McCain - where WE LOSE no matter who gets elected among the three.
Write in Ron Paul.
You suck Russert - just as hard as all yer media lackey pals against freedom do too.
Screw him. I am ashamed to be from Buffalo too now.
it's funny how people call the likes of russert noble and fair etc but he's basically pushing the same agenda of all the media outlets in america. right wing or left wing it's all a distraction employed by the media outlets, with ppl like russert carrying out the dirty work. ron paul and kucinich are by far the most intelligent and rational of u.s politicians but they aren't fashionable so no one listens
Russert was fat and obese, died at 58, and was hardest on Ron Paul of all his interviews on Meet The Press. Ron Paul would never hurt a fly, wears the same size suit he did in high school and will probably live another 20 years. I agree w/ him on almost everything etcept I disagree w/ him vehemently on The Fed.
Right before Tim Russert collapsed and died, he was blogging about an October surprised against Barack Obama and had mentioned the website: TheObamaFile com
Russert being called a journalist is joke. MSM hit man. Freedom is happier as the MSM media cartel loses a talking head. Pray for his his kids and soul. He should have fought preemptive war.
Tim Russert is an a-hole. He is doing nothing but attacking Ron Paul and then cutting him off before he can defend himself. This is indicative of how most members of the press have treated him. How many newscasters and news stations are in on the conspiracy to keep Ron Paul out of the White House? Why is it that one of the few honest presidential candidates I've seen in my lifetime can't get an honest shake?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
lol are you guys completely brainwashed or just stupid? Ron Paul is for people that are undeducated on politics and have no idea how much he would destroy this country. He knows absolutely nothing on foreign policy. Pulling troops out of South Korea just because it costs us money? Fucking stupid selfish bastard.
Glddraco how would you feel if other countries decided to set up bases in the good ole USA? would you be happy about that? Also it does cost us money. South Korea the same one that speaks ill of America behind her back, can fend for herself. Also the uneducated ones are the ones who believe the rhetoric of Mccain, Obama and Clinton as somehow having the best interest of the Amercian people in mind. Anyone who belongs to the CFR has but one interest in mind.
South Korea once we pull out would be invaded by North Korea. Not only that but at the same time you would wave the white flag and allow them to build nuclear weapons. This confirms that Ron Paul supporters know absolutely nothing about foriegn policy or economy in general. On top of it leaving other countries to fend for themselves means that NO country will trade with us. This would harm and damage not just the American economy but the world as well. Ron Paul = unrealistic.
"confirms that Ron Paul supporters know absolutely nothing about foriegn policy or economy in general"
How much are we spending on this war since Paul knows nothing about foreign policy or the economy. Also China,Pakistan and India have nuclear weapons yet we don't tell them to put down their weapons. Also we stay in some countries and they still won't trade with us. Also the American economy is already damaged what are you speaking of?
What are you retarded? North Korea cant even feed their own people. You are probably the kind of moron that thinks if the US leaves Iraq then Iran will invade
Ron tim is showing you up don't diss Katrina if you are getting money for your district, that's probably why the rest of the candidates laughed at him, I think they know what's up.
Diss Katrina? He wanted to send the funds directly to the communities instead of the government filtering all the money through FEMA (which we all know mismanaged the whole thing).
Oh please Ron Paul stumbled every time Russert threw Katrina in his face however where did Paul say he wanted to send the money directly to the communities? Maybe I missed that.
"All federal aid for Katrina should have been distributed as directly as possible to local communities, rather than through wasteful middlemen like FEMA and Homeland Security. Considering the demonstrated ineptitude of government at both the federal and state level in this disaster, the people affected by the hurricane and subsequent flood no doubt would have been better off if relief money simply was sent directly to them or to community organizations dedicated to clean-up and reconstruction."
Also if you followed the actual interview Russert briefly listed Katrina and then kept rolling over other issues not letting Ron Paul respond specifically to to it...and also Katrina was mentioned once, there was no "every time" in this interview, dumbass.
Yeah this is my favorite interview of the campaign. Russert tried his absolute best to cast RP in a bad light and on the other side it was rebuttals full of truth after every single quote.
Tim Russert is the first TV news guy I have seen treat Ron Paul with at least a little bit of respect. He actually let the guy finish a sentence. Tim Russert gets my vote for least offensive of all the assholes on tv
Russert actually supports and would vote for Ron Paul, like a lot of conscious media drones. Russert and the people know the icome tax was instated by the corrupt federal reserve cartel, not congress. Like Paul said, America did fine without an income tax up until 1913.
The person with 'lack of information on specific foreign policy' is George Bush, not Ron Paul and Bush's approval rating proves it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I lost all respect for Ron Paul after seeing this broadcast in December. I agree with a lot of Paul's talking points, but Russert didn't let him speak his talking points. He challenged them like a good journalist should and showed Ron Paul Paul to be all hat and no cattle. Paul didn't have any numbers to back up his policy to eliminate the income tax, for example, and his lack of information on specific foreign policy was appalling. Russert showed Ron Paul as a joke of a presidential candidate.
wow. there really are people who still believe in George Bush's policies. you just keep tellin yourself the they attacked us because of our "freedom". they're "freedom haters" Right? you fuckin moron.
Don't you dare categorize me with the ignorant fuckheads who support Bush; I voted against him twice. I opposed the war before it was cool. I never believed in weapons of mass destruction. I believe the Bush administration has squandered the good will the world gave us since 9/11 and that we are less safe as a a country since we invaded Iraq. I love John Stewart.
Paul couldn't back himself up about the income tax. I judge candidates on their policies, and Paul didn't have one.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why do morons still believe Ron Paul can win? He doesn't have ANY delegates or states. John McCain needs 100 delegates to whin the Republican nomination. Do you people even know the election process?
That is a statement of ignorance. Those delegates are predicted calculations by the media that have no bearing on who will really be the party's nominee, which is not decided until the national convention. Have you ever heard of Reagan's Raiders?
Ronald Reagan and his well organized grassroots supporters nearly unseated the incumbent Gerald Ford from receiving the party's nomination for the 1976 Presidential Election.
Don't comment on party politics. It's obviously not your strong point.
So funny, ear marks are not bad unless they are motivated by special intrest.. This shmuck is trying to corner Dr.Paul

Typical media whore trying to smear Ron Paul, its a shame that NBC got so belligerent in their attempts to elect Obama.
FromyColdeadHands 2 years ago
ROFL, so your god Ron Paul gets some tough questions, which is standard on Meet the press, and you get your panties in a twist.
Tim Russert does this to all his big guests.
cupocity303 1 year ago
@cupocity303
First of all, he is not my god, he is just the only respectable man on capital hill, and those are not just tough questions , he did not treat Obama or McCain like this, its MSNBC trying to brush off Ron Paul as crazy. But Ron went through with flying colors.
FromyColdeadHands 1 year ago
They did the same thing to McCain, using his own quotes/statements from the past against him. So I think you're being a litte too sensitive when it comes to your Ron Paul.
Treating him like some fragile thing. What I saw here is Ron Paul getting challanged a bit and it was the right thing to do. Ron Paul usually likes to swim under the radar, and make statements nobody ever challanges because he never was a serious contender for nomination like Hillary, OBama & McCain. And u guys eat it up.
cupocity303 1 year ago
@cupocity303
FromyColdeadHands 1 year ago
I said, "swim under the radar", never hears of the expression. Calm down and stop getting your panties twisted, overreacting. What you said had nothing to do with what I said. Bottom line is they treated McCain the same as Ron Paul, challanging him....plain simple. YOur politics and what you think of McCain or Obama don't interest me, I just pointed out that your fragile Ron Paul wasn't getting treated any worse then anybody else.
cupocity303 1 year ago
@cupocity303
FromyColdeadHands 1 year ago
Idiot, was he excluded from NBC's Meet the Press??? Was he?
NO HE WASN'T, because that's what we're talking about. you lack comprehension sunny.
He got a fair shake on Meet the press like everybody else and he got challanged. Now maybe you would've liked the interviewer to kiss his ass and ask him softball questions, but that's now how it goess on Meet the press.
Deal with it and step your comprehension skills up.
cupocity303 1 year ago
@cupocity303
FromyColdeadHands 1 year ago

The money that is not allocated by the Reps will instead be left to the Executive branch to spend. In other words, if Rep. Paul were to not allocate any money through earmarks, that would not cut spending in any way and on top of that he would be denying his district of any return on their tax dollars. Russert is being plain dishonest to his viewers by not relating that fact or letting Rep Paul refute it.
blackerton 2 years ago 9
You put it rather nicely. Right on!
YusefAsabiyah 2 years ago
The lack of understanding that Russert displays here with regard to earmarks is just sad. He sits there for 3 minutes erroneously accusing Rep. Paul of a double standard and then interrupts him when Rep. Paul tries to speak. When a spending bill is going through the Congress, the House Representatives have a certain apportionment of the budget to allocate which they do through 'earmarks'. Whatever the Reps do not allocate, that money doesn't come out of the bill. It will still be spent.CONT^

They're not polar opposites.. neither one thinks we should police the world.. they're both intelligent men, that think things through.

The problem with Paul has always been his economics. And he's not really unique among republicans
Basically if a bill has a tax increase they vote against it no matter what
And if it has a tax cut they vote for it, no matter what
This is how an idiot would do accounting and its the reason our country is going bankrupt.
All so the republicans can run campaign ads about how they have "never voted for a tax increase"
indyleftist 3 years ago
I suppose Nancy Pelosi's proposed economic stimulus plan to "rebate" $1000 - $1200 per taxpayer is financially responsible?
Only Ron Paul would actually reduce spending.
vapatriot2 3 years ago 7
But the thing is that Paul didn't put up an alternative bill.
So its great that he votes against everything on principle but I'm not sure there would ever be an economics bill that he would ever vote for.
Imagine someone running a company on a borad of directors just voting against everything without even looking at it. That company wouldn't last long would it
indyleftist 3 years ago
@vapatriot2 The reason that our country is going bankrupt is because morons like you are more concerned with giving health care to illegals as well as other entitlement programs, rather than promote personal responsibility. That is why republicans have wiped the floor with democrats in the last 30 years.
dukeljk 1 year ago
I don't think you went deep enough in understanding his economic position. How many politicians you know would vote for the abolishment of the IRS? How many politicians you know would vote for getting rid of the Federal Reserve? Paul basically wants all commerce out of the federal government so instead of serving special business interests, it will focus its service on the people.
98wongjf 1 year ago
@indyleftist The reason our country is going bankrupt is morons like you give entitlement programs to illegals, such as health care. Your more considered with giving freebies that don't want to work for a living because it makes you feel good. Shut your dumb mouth.

The problem is most people don't understand earmarks and federal funding. I don't even think Tim did.
