I was under the impression Chicano meant Californian of Mexican heritage, at least where im from thats what it means. Just mexican-american or more precise, Mexican-Californian
What the hell is this guy on? I was born in El Salvador but have spent 70% of my life living in Canada. I would never identify myself as Chicano. For Spanish-speaking people living here in Canada the word Chicano indicates that there is a Mexican cultural background in your life, which there certainly isn't in mine and would never claim there is.
We are all Latinos, and we should embrace our common history and orgins, but our differences is also what makes us unique. Its always funny to me how Mexicans can say that Chicano can refer to everyone, yet almost every non Mexican Latino I know would never use that word.
Its their term for cultural identity, thats ok, but it isnt ok to say every Latin is Chicano. No we're not, Latin culture doe not revolve around Mexicans. Nyurican is not Chicano. A Cuban in Miami will identify with Chicano.
You need to educate. I am from Peru and Mexico. I am Xicano as well. Chicano to me is universal, there is not a meaning to chicanidad is huge, there is not definition for it.
Good Job! You are Xicano be proud of that! When you classify as Xicano that means that you carry power of ancestral consciousness.
Xicano is power, resistance, and completely universal. By the way I am not a second generation american. I am a first generation. Dont put terms on words that you do not know.
Too bad he has it all wrong. Chicano is first generation Mexican American. He can call himself chiacano all he wants, and he can get away with that b/c he's half Mexican, but as a Salvadoran/Honduran I would never dare call myself that. Soy Catracho y Guanaco, y dudo que un Boricua le gustaria decir que es "Chicano".
The kid needs to get educated on what Chicano refers to.
Salvadorians,Guatemalans and Mexicans are basically thr same people just separated by borders.
