Great video. I was really struggling with this process as I am a recent convert from Final Cut Pro. One question: Do you just delete the .new masterclips after you re-link to the MXFs? If you're not going to edit with them, what good are they? Seem like they would only be confusing to leave in the project. Or do you just sort them to another bin, just in case?
@ppohio I keep the .new masterclips in a bin I titled something like "transcodes and date" and place it in a folder called AMA KEEP OUT.
Hopefully you will never need to get to them again, but sometimes after an uprez your lo-rez media will randomly go offline. The awesome fix is to just open up the offline footage bin, then open up your transcode bin, and all your offline will come back.
I treat the transcode bin as the silver bullet for any time you have offline media issues.
i second relinking to the .new clips. Our workflow = link AMA volume > modify AMA clips to add a new source i.e. tape number based on clip folders > transcode to offline res > finished seq in a bin on it's own > unmount offline workspace > show reference clips to reveal tape name > mount correct AMA folders > relink sequence. Works every time.
@ripvanmarlowe Agreed. This is the same workflow my facility uses. It's also worth noting little things like making sure you have 'alldrives' enabled (in case you store your media on network drives) and that any drives with AMA media on should be mounted with the same drive letter as when they were transcoded.
I think the .new clips can work in certain circumstances, but I have also had them completely not relink at all, so I don't trust the relink on .new clips. I'll post a video of a failed relink. Perhaps it has to do with unity versus local storage?

I noticed your quick edit didn't have any kinds of effects or transitions. Will these kinds of changes prevent up rezing?

@JASSIE0614 the transitions and effects will uprez fine. They will need to be re-rendered at the higher resolution, unless they're real time effects.

I'm always hesitant to use modify and risk losing ancillary data, but I'll check it out!

If you modify the original AMA file first then give it a tape name, the .new files relink fine.

@winslowlewis made a video showing the .new clip relink fail. The link to it is in the info on this video.
