  • Mikes Son "Jason" is Mike all over again.

  • Still love the light in his eyes- I guess now it's called "crows feet" but "He's still a Monkey to me"...Thank You for the fun ridiculous place you took us in a time of extreme reality!

  • Wow...rare indeed, and with his kid!!

    (fell off my chair)

Jason looks like dad....and that is a positive.

  • It's nice to see an interview with Mike, it seems really rare. And I'm quite struck how much his son looks like Mike when he was younger.

  • The son looks so much like the younger version of the father - that's heredity of course.

  • Hey Jason---we don't really give a shit about you---it's your dad we mainly want to know about....

  • He does favor his dad. Mike got married in '64. According to IMDB, Mickey was the only one that announced to the public he was married. Nice to see another offspring of the group. I only know Ami Dolenz.

  • Did anyone else read the very lovely words he put out yesterday after the passing of Davy Jones? It was beautiful, and frankly, out of anything I heard from anyone what Nez said was the most comforting. I think he's talented and lovely, and I enjoy hearing anything that he ever has to say. What he decides to do personally and professionally is his business, just like anyone else.

  • I am appalled by some of the comments on this! I have been a Monkees fan since I was twelve (fifteen years, so not as long as some folks I realize) and I love all four guys for their individual qualities. To hear some of the things that are being said about Michael here is very disappointing, especially all of the false assumptions people make. I have been paying attention and I have NEVER heard Michael say anything nasty about any individual member of the group.

  • Jason looks a lot like the young Mike Nesmith

  • He is cool.

  • wow. he turned into Loren Michaels!

  • MIke ..where has the time gone? I miss the green hat.

  • Does his son look enough like him from when he was younger?

  • @hcabnekogcram Uhhhhhhh.....did you watch the video?! That's his son standing right next to him. Mike says, "this is my son, Jason." 9___9

  • The coolest Monkee

  • Fun note: His mother invented liquid paper.

  • @alexrogers411

Actually, it's wite-out. But, yes, and she left Michael a lot of money.

  • @NeelieLyn Nope, the original was in fact "Liquid Paper." Not to be nit-picky, but @alexrogers411 was right.

  • @earthday1984TB

    I stand corrected.

  • Wow--I wasn't for sure it was the same Mike Nesmith from the Monkees. At one time he wanted no part of the Monkees. I guess thru the years they may have settled their differences, I know he never wanted to tour with them again.. So sad to lose Davey so soon after this interview,

  • Amazing for me... not seeing Michael Nesmith, but seeing his son, Jason. I gave him his very first guitar lesson when he was about seven years old... He was in an afternoon day care program where I worked...That would have been around 1974... Wow!

  • He reminds me of Alan Rickman.

  • Interesting. Mike 40 years post Monkee career.

  • Man, I couldn't have picked him out of a two man line up.

  • ISN'T THIS MIKE'S GRANDPA ?

  • I close my eyes and listen to Mike and I'm transported back to 1966... what a glorious time.

  • @cynsha

    Yes it was.

  • Well you know, it's just nice and amazing that all four of them are still alive and kicking more or less this far down the road (Feb 17, 2012). That's more than can be said about just about all of their contemporaries and later classic groups.

  • @gli7utubeo - wow, how "prophetic" your post turned out to be. Just look what was around the corner of that road (2-17-12) and that just 12 days later we would lose Davy. How sad. 11:56 am 2-29-12 LEAP YEAR

  • @gli7utubeo-Not anymore, David Jones passed away from a heart attack this morning :(

  • @gli7utubeo And then there were 3...

    :(

  • @gli7utubeo Its you ! You did it Davy !!! Argghhhhhhh : (

  • Mike looks like a kindly 70-year-old. No surprise there. Others of his generation didn't look half that good in their 40s. Kieth Richards. Mick Jagger.

  • i love them - father and son...

  • He still acts like a dick to the others

  • That was Mike Nesmith? YIKES !

  • The old codger

  • whoa, I would have never guessed in a million years that was Mike Nesmith. Guess it's been a while since I've seen him.

  • @SotR59 I'm with you bud - shocked the shit out of me. We shouldn't be surprise though, he's 70 after all. Actually this is the decade that is going to really freak all of us boomers out. All the rock stars we grew up with are now heading into their 70's and when you haven't seen them for some 40 plus years, it can be quite shocking. I saw a video of Grace Slick a short while ago and my jaw dropped. If Nesmith shocked you, don't check Grace out. She's pretty much unrecognizable...

  • @paleblue498 Cont....with a chubby face and short white hair. I still think of her at Woodstock...God she was hot. Not anymore, she's quite literally an old lady. Oh well, none of us are getting out of this world alive and we're all going to end up (if we live that long) just the same as our great-grandparents: old, wrinkled and bald. Kind of scary and sad to think about really...

  • Listening to his voice...he surely put up another voice on his albums.

  • His voice is unmistakable. Sounds the same way he did 45 years ago.

  • I don't know. I have seen Mike interviewed before and he has never come off as warm and fuzzy. I wonder if his experience in the music biz has hardened him over the years.

  • Mikes still a poo butt toward " The Monkees "!!

  • he just needs his lumberjack hat, right?

  • We all get old.Mike should be known for his great C&W songs he wrote in the 70's.

  • wheres the hat?lol

  • Doesn't even look like him!!

  • @TardProductions We can say the same thing about you in 40+ years.

  • Wow, Mike looks like he's in his 80's now!

  • OMG! Now he needs the hat.

  • does he get questions about his mom inventing White out?

  • i don't recognize mike at all! damn

  • How can you possibly tell me to get over myself when you're on YouTube attacking someones appearance? I am here because I am a supporter - not a fucker who uses the World Wide Web to........you know what? Fuck it. I'll go ahead and leave you alone. You are clearly one of those bitches who can't see the train until it is two inches in front of them. Do whatever you're doin'. Post whatever you post. Sorry I bothered you at all.

  • @CherokeeBPM Cease.

  • @CherokeeBPM "Mike doesn't look like himself"?? What does that even mean?? Who does he look like then?

  • @CherokeeBPM "......hasn't aged well". What is aging well? So many of you sad pathetic superficial "people" on this board.

  • very intelligent father and son. always enjoyed mike, as a member of the monkees. there was a time when he dissed his group members .... but i think that's all water under the bridge. he seemed to want to advance and didn't want the silliness to keep him down, which is understandable. sure has aged dramatically! something you youngins can look forward to, even though, i haven't!

  • @frizzlefrap I'm 57, so I am kind of tuned in as to how people my age and older are starting to look. As far as Nesmith goes, don't forget....during his Monkees years, we (I assume you're my age or close) always saw him in a stocking cap. He may have been balding at that point of his life, at least up top. He did have long hair that flowed around his cap. You know, if you picture him with some hair in that interview....he really looks pretty darn good. Looks in shape, not all wrinkly, etc.

  • Still waiting for him to answer my fan letter from 1968.

  • @ShanghaiJill You can write him again.Maybe they lost it.

  • Is the Father of the music video's

  • what happened to his texas accent?|

  • @wandaluverr he still has it

  • Wow didn't realize/know Jason was doing something w/Ahmet! Yes I'm a fan of the Zappa family & yes a BIG Monkees fan as well. :)

  • Happy Belated Brithday Nez!! So good to see you perform at Largo back in August! Great show... He lost like 40 poungs.. looking great as ever

  • Great to see his son and Frank Zappa's son are working together as Mike and Frank did.

  • Mike is still and will always be awesome. No matter what he looks like.

  • Mike Nesmith is awesome.

  • He looks his age. I wonder if he still has millions of dollars like he did when he was young.

  • Michael and them was before Justin and them. At least Mike broadened his horizons after the Monkees. And happy 69th to him.

  • Re: Comments on appearance - I think he's hot!

  • Happy Birthday Mike Nesmith. Hi! I'm sweet Sue. And I used to play with your sister Debra Nesmith in Arabi,Law when you were doiing the monkees.

  • He's thankfully telling people he actually loves The Monkees! The fact he was more than willing to play with them again, and to direct their 1996 ABC-TV Special says way more than the things that were written about him! WELL DONE!

  • He's become more boring than he was back in the "good ol' days" if that is possible.

  • @thereyouhaveit If you're bored by him, why did you select the video? So you could say something rude and stupid?

  • @WatleyConceptsInc1 I generally do not reply to these items, as it is a waste of time.I was just curious is why i selected the video, and the response to my comment was just as I suspected: Someone who is really rude and stupid, and who has no other life but to respond to other peoples comments. and There You Have It! So Now Go Find Something else to Do!

  • I'm sorry, what?

  • You were just curious is why you selected the video? Curious about what? You already found him boring. You choose a video of someone you don't care for to say they are boring. Then, call Me "rude and stupid". You seriously do not see the ultimate hipocrisy in that? I selected it because I am a supporter of Nesmith and his work. I am involved in music and that's what I generally come to YouTube for. And, yes. I reply to other stupid motherfuckers that come here for other ridiculous reasons.

  • Another celebrity who after making a generation happy with music and laughter turns into a grumpy old man who won't play ball with his old buddies one last time.

  • @bobeagle007 He DID play with his old buddies one last time! Just how many more "one last time" 's is he supposed to do, to keep you happy? 1? 10? 1000? I'm sure that he can,t wait for your answer, so he can get right out there "one last time" just for you. Then he might be able to get on with his life, thank you very much.

  • @plasticdogfood Best YouTube reply yet! Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @plasticdogfood fuck off moron..I don't even listen to nostalgic pop music by a fake band from the 60's..go fuck yourself imbecile.

  • If you feel that way about them, why do you care if he "plays ball" with them one last time? You're calling people morons and imbeciles. Take a closer look at yourself. And, visit my channel again. It helps to promote my page. Gives me more hits. Go to my website too.

  • @plasticdogfood weeeeelll, i'm gonna say there is no "one last time". If he cared nothing about music, he wouldn't be here with his musician son at an event for musicians. He has a right to turn his back on his past, but if he does that..., the rest of us have a right to talk shit about him for doing that!

now I love him. but c'mon man! dance with the girl that brought you and spend a week a year hangin' with your old buds in rehearsal and play a show! (just cause you don't have to work bro....)

  • @rowellbeej01 and i know... white out. don't tell me that's the girl that brought him. i know.

just imagine a world where he wasn't an heir

  • @bobeagle007 You're a very stupid human being . "Play ball with his buddies one last time"? Are you being real? You have no idea what the music business/industry is about, do you?

  • @WatleyConceptsInc1 dude fuck off...you think you know me?

you know the music biz right? oh let me just look up your body of work?

you know what? I can't find a fucking thing about you..strange.Just looked at your page..nothing going on there except some broke ass imbecile sitting in his bedroom 'studio'..you making beats? or beating your meat..

  • What? You insult me, what I'm working on and where I'm doing it. You insult Nesmith and his appearance / music. Yet, you're watching videos of both. You must be insane. Get a life, you stupid motherfucker. By the way, "making beats" is not an intellectual musical term. It would be in your best interest to quit now before your get your feelings hurt. And, if you'd like to continue, that's fine. Just don't accuse me of bothering/stalking you later. I Do know you....your type...a bitch.

  • He seems abit embarassed about his past (The Monkees).....he shouldn't be.....it was fun growing up and watching them.

  • @homeelectricco How does he seem embarrassed? What was he supposed to say? And, how should he have said it?

  • "He has not aged well." Are you people listening to what he is saying or just to busy being flabbergasted that he is not twenty-something. Sheesh!

  • Shut up. Go away. And never open your mouth again.

  • It's inevitable...WE ALL grow older. You either grow old or you die!

  • what some talk about, he looks great, he always did,,

  • I saw him at Largo in L.A. back in August and he looked GREAT. Lost like 40 pounds. Looked like he's great good ol' self! Tall, in jeans, black t shirt and BIG NEZ GRIN.. He was Great, sounded Great and looked Great! And of course, we all gave him a standing ovation. Micky Dolenz was there too!

  • When I was eight I always wanted one of those motorized skate boards they showed on the beginning of the show.

  • Rockers should never grow old....they age us.

  • It's really nice to see Mike come to grips with the Monkees. He spent so much time trying to get away from it, you really felt bad for him.

  • Wow I'm only 25 but grew up listening to the Monkees.. He will always be woolhat to me no matter how old he gets.. He was a real firecracker in his younger days, and so creative. Amazing guy. And his son looks so much like him. I agree it's hilarious that his son is working with Ahmed. Continuing the tradition.

  • @ magovenor-wake up,douche bag.

  • LoL! I *love* this!!! Jason is working with Ahmed the same way his dad worked with Frank!! LoL! SO cool! (And, yes, I'm "old" too! LoL!)

  • He looks like a man his age is supposed to look.. it's good to see him..

  • Wow.... I would have never believed this was Mike Nesmith. His speaking voice sounds very much the same.

  • What are you talking about? I am 59 and female and I think he is a very handsome man! Even better than when he was young.

  • oh my gosh does Jason look like his dad when he smiles! loved seeing this!

  • I'm glad Mike has gotten over his hostility toward The Monkees. The saddest thing is that he may be losing his hearing. There could be no worse fate for such a talented musician and composer. Look what has happened to George Martin. He is almost totally deaf now and can't enjoy the wonderful stuff he produced with The Beatles.

  • I think he's still pretty handsome considering his age. When I was a wee one, every week, my friends and I had crushes on a different Monkee. Of course, my favorite was Davy, and then Mike and then Peter with poor Mickey always the last pick.Hey, MIke, still looking good!!!

  • Mike, u da man!

  • He looks great....you are right....helllllooooo it is aging and everyone will do it....actually he aged well. He is who he is...let it be. Wow, freaky how much Jason looks like his pop!

  • Those of you who are dissing the way Mike looks are total douche bags. I'd like to see your asses when you're his age. Let's not forget his TALENT and his contribution to the arts beyond the Monkees such as being an early music video pioneer, a visionary on people creating their own content using social media, and the forward-thinking movies he produced. Plus, the man had a beautiful voice. Be thankful for the wonders and talent you've been able to witness during your life on earth.

  • He looks like our veterinarian!

  • whata difefrnce 20 years make from his video of Joanne at Austin City Limts?

  • Much respect to Mike for doing what's in his heart and not merely swimming in the echoes of his past fame. Mickey sang most of their best hits in my opinion, but Mike was always the coolest and still is.

  • Mike still hasent " cheered up ". Cmon Mike, were The Monkee years really that bad ?

  • @mrstevehartman What?

  • The reason he looks so old is because of the way his hairline receded and his hair is gray. If he still had a full head of hair he would look much like he used to. Old age is creeping up. Also , he had a beard for many years and its gone.

  • He Looks Great And Sounds Great!!

  • Am I the only one who thinks he looks like Lorne Michaels of SNL? Anyone????

  • Buy his son is so much like how he was when he was younger, I mean how he talks..

  • @MotownMoJo64 - Thank you. I will look into that to see if that is the song I remember.

  • "do you still get Monkees questions after all these years?"

Well what did you just ask him douchebag? Mike nezmith looks like Gorbachev here. I did not think it was him. And if women find him handsome right now, i'll be happy to be half that when i'm his age.

  • when i was a young teenager back in the mid to late 80's i had the biggest crush on mr. nesmith oh my goodness did i!!! he still looks good after all these years and his son is a spitting image of him! what a proud papa he must me. :)

  • Mike looks Healthy and Happy! He was my first crush! Still handsome as can be!

  • Mike seems more at peace with the whole 'Monkees' thing. he has really aged though. I wonder if he has any of his voice left. He once had the most beaughtful voice.

  • I still think Nez looks cool!! And he is a multi-millionaire, NOT a pauper at all. He rarely appears with the group anymore because he doesn't HAVE to!!

  • Old age is terrible isn't it ?

  • @TheKenfig

Not at all. He looks a lot better now than, say, John Kennedy Jr. imo.

  • @ukswoosh Aside from being a bald badger, he's not unlike Dustin Hoffman is he ? ; maybe he wore that wooley hat too much !

  • @TheKenfig

Cary Grant was once asked did he mind getting old?

"Not when you consider the alternative" he quipped quick as a flash! lol

  • So many of us get hung up on how people look, how much they have aged, etc.but isn't all that immaterial?I'd much rather see Mr. Nesmith grow old naturally than to see him go the Kenny Rogers route and end up with a bad face lift. Those of us that love Mike and his music just don't care about any of that.If he were to perform again in the Houston area sometime in the future I'm there, and I'll be grateful for the opportunity to hear and see him do his thing.

  • @josephpuma yawn!

  • @magovenor What are you talking about?

  • @josephpuma I think it may be that folks are a little shocked by Nez's appearance if they haven't seen him for a while.

For example, I was just watching Elephant Parts, and happened across this video clip. Going from 1981 to 2010 is quite the time warp!

But Nez will always be cool. :)

  • @josephpuma ..... that is true .... dolly parton? .... she looks laughably, horrible!

  • I'm close to 70,I wear black leather trousers and a frilly shirt.I dye the few strands of hair I have left jet black and wear a medallion that shows off my hairy chest.....maybe thats why they put me away in here.

  • He's aged worse than any of the other monkees. You can still see the youth's they were in the others.

  • @PauleyBoy200 Peter Torks aged well? Have you seen him lately? His face looks like a train map! All the years of drinking & drug taking have caught up with him!

  • @stevobath Peter had cancer and had his face basically split open in surgery to remove it. I think he looks damn good considering.

  • @earthday1984TB Along with the drinking & drug taking....Hes even admitted that in interviews.

  • @stevobath Yes, but it's been a very long time since he did any of that. He got sober in in the early eighties, and before he got sick I don't think he looked his age. Honestly, he still doesn't, in my opinion.

  • Thanks for your reply. I was not aware of his failed business ventures, but I DO know he had to pay off his Monkees contract, which he said was a burden for years. But with his brilliance and Texas pluck, he pulled ahead with the video business. As to his looking older than Davy (theEchovoices, below), he IS five years older!

  • I would not have guessed that was Nez.... wow...

  • Mike looks great to me! His mother invented White Out, so he has not been a poor young man for many years. He has, in fact, been the corporate guy some of you mention. But a creative, talented corporate guy, and bless us, we ALL age!

  • @KittyinVA He was a poor man because he blew his mothers money with his many business ventures that failed.

  • HE aged badly Davy still looks like Davy I would never know this was Mike his son looks like him a lot

  • @TheEchovoices Yeah, but Davey does look hard now. In the Monkees their faces were almost like children

  • @TheKenfig

I've often wondered how ageing stars feel on viewing themselves on film as they were when young?

  • @theshadow664 Like shit if he's lke me

  • @TheKenfig

That's honest! It's curious, in some ways we are the same but different at various ages. It has been argued that we are not the same person at 60 as we were at 20. Some philosophers have explored this concept of personal identity. A 20-year old has a video saying that he couldn't bear the thought of being 30. I told him that he need have no fear, that HE would never be 30! By this I meant no harm, I hope he has a long life, but I said he wouldn't be the same person.

  • Bit of shocking.. Mike Nesmith is/was such a good musician, songwriter and singer especially after the Monkees..the image does not fit to that..

  • I miss the hat.

  • He looks just wonderful to me :o)

  • Apparently Mike discarded the beanie some time ago.

  • Papa Nez! I still love him. When I look at him, I still see the boy he was during the Monkees years. His son looks and sounds remarkably like him. So neat he's a composer for film in his own right. Very cool interview. Thanks for posting!

  • on the way Mike Nesmith looks: it's called aging. the man is close to 70 years of age. would you prefer him with a wig and a woolen hat? then you might say he belongs in the looney bin.

  • woww. that doesn't even look like Mike anymore.. ):

  • Holy Mackerel he's the only one I don't recognize he does not eve SOUND the same, yuck quitter thinks he's ABOVE the other guys.

  • @bd9598 Pardon the typos, RA causes me to type badly I am just happy when I can type at all, eve should have been "even". Don't look for proper grammar or punctuation with my lack of ability to type. Thanks if anyone even cares LOL

  • @bd9598 Peter quit first. They have ALL "quit" a few times except, I think, for Micky. WTF is your beef with this man?

  • Phyllis's second son, Jonathan, was born in February 1968. Nesmith's third son, Jason, seen here with Mike, was born in August 1968 to Nurit Wilde, whom he met when she was doing photo shoots of The Monkees. Nurit was a photographer and socialite who hung out with the "artsy" Laurel Canyon crowd of the late 1960s-early 1970s.

  • @Babyhowdy233 thanks i only just found out mike had an affair with his wife

  • @coltmanm I've seen LOADS of Nurit's photography since the late 1960s, and not one photograph had even half the artistry of anything done by Annie Leibovitz or even Lynn Goldsmith, IMHO. Nurit's photos are of interest because of their subject matter. She adored hobnobbing with/ bedding musicians and she was in the right place at the right time to make social connections within the music scene, which helped to get her music mag assignments for her photos.

  • wow, does his son look like him or what?

  • @ed917751

The hair, but the main problem is the 1,000,000 huge age spots, the countless wrinkles and the double chin. And YES, there are music artists who HAVEN'T messed with their hair and skin and have allowed themselves to age naturally and they DON'T look like MIke. An example is Ian McLagan:he is OLDER than Mike but he looks amazing!
