What does he mean by the "flower that grows in the ghetto" metaphor? Who is the flower, what is the survival referencing? The only piece of this that I can't pickup.
"Let's go, you know a flower that grow in the ghetto
Know more about survival than the one from fresh meadows
It got love for the sun, that's where I'm comin from"
I think the part that makes that line is the last sentence. Speaking on the fact that those who know struggle and pain generally have a great appreciation for, in this sense, true love. Just my personal assessment of the meaning.
"If skills sold, truth be told I'd be lyrically Talib Kweli"
That's from a nigga that many consider to be the greatest, and he's stating how much doper Kweli is technically.
I love Talib man, real shit, subject matter, technical skill, ill punchlines and rhyme schemes and all over dope beats. Nigga actually talk about shit.
I fucks with the joints hard body.
Search Eddie Pesos "Greatness" Puerto Rock kid from PA droppin' ill joints on the mic, I promise y'all won't be dissapointed.
Talib Kweli is a poet & Les Nubians are wonderful soul & fusion duo, nice blend cause bottom line hip hop is the language of love.....send love to the three loveless souls aight. SPREAD LOVE.
this song does not only apply to girls and guys, it applies to every human and human, animal and human interaction.....the miscommunication we have with eachother everyday......love, patience, and understanding is key to try and solving this problem....
oh yes !!! fabulous song from Talib,Hi Teck and The Nubians.Good Vibes !! And The Nubians are from my town (Bordeaux,France) ;) so special salute to The Nubians !!! Stay like you are and give us some news !!! Peace all !!!!
Man i swear I remember when this came out... You know the Game Corrupt when the best rapper tell you who he think is the best rapper and they still don't get heard...Politics as Usual.... Commerce> Artwork...The name of the Game...
Wow... I always knew Talib was dope, and now listening to the song and looking up the lyrics at the same time... he speaks the truth, deep lyrics, why are we listening to so much rubbish on tv and radio!?!?
bitches say niggas is trife niggas say bitches is, we just dont understand our fundamental differences = so much truth in that line in every sense of the word....big up talib
@deimonhuntr1 as soon as you start to type in reflection in the search box it will say reflection eternal with a "T" at the end which should take you straight to the album.
I try to share real hip hop like this around my friends but they just dont feel it, its not basey enough or aggressive enough. People just dont know real raw music anymore, really makes me sad. Love to my dad for showing me what real hip-hop is x
I can easily listen to every last lyric he ever spits on a beat. His rhymes are in a realm of ease that I enjoy relaxing in. How can he be this genuine!?!?!? -"rhetorical question farley"
Its tragic when you wonder when you lost that magic- without understanding that you never had it! Lust is a b*tch! So is the love illusion built on anything from the truth. He is so real. x
How did we let them take this positive music away from us! This is what you call real hip hop! This type of music is what should be BLASTING the airways.
Started with romantic, then got to frantic, then things that normally small become gigantic. Now ya'll sinking like the Titanic, here come's the panic, being with you like a habit without you I cant stand it. --- love that verse. This song is incredible.
I'm getting really tired of people who obviously know good rap when they hear it bitching and whining about Lil Wayne. Fuck you all, just let me listen to Talib in peace.
Itz been years I have been a fan of Kweli and nobody pays attention, but could name every Gucci Mane track...music is steadily dying and only us backpackers care about it!!!

i feel like crap when people at school ask me what my favorite music is...it's a shame that nobody but 1 of my friends has even heard of a man named Talib Kweli. It's really unfortunate.
@Arsenalisthegreatest I agree & it is really unfortunate but school them, we all gotta learn from someone & from somewhere...let them know theres more to hip hop/rap music besides Lil Wayne. this is concious shit thats timeless.
I feel the same way. I'm a girl and I think it's twice as bad cuz most of my homegirls listening to Drake thinking he's hot. I mean I do listen to R&B like Alicia Keys and what not, but I mostly listen to this type of music. I'm a 90's baby so I grew up when Hip-Hop was still raw and real, these kids now a days grow up with bullshit music not knowing that it's Nothing compared to the 80's and 90's music. Oh my God... this dude is just too illy lyrical. Now this is Hip Hop at its finest. This dude implemented Scarface, yo hope for findin the one, and the different language of love and what it speaks in the same verse. Talib is like a Nas... his lyrics are so deep that most can't even fathom what he's speakin, ova the majority's heads. Love the philosophical poetry in verse 3. Talib is in the top 5 MCs of all time for sho.
@Twe1vevRem..Why did you cut out that dope ass jazz beat at the ending of this song? You slippin' brah.

Women thrive on emotions, men refuse to acknowledge
So when we arguin nobody win
Words get in the way time and again
Sticks and stones break your bones words break your heart
Whether you in touch with that part or not say "word"
Words are weapons for the revolutionary
Used for evil make the situation very scary
Word up, but love is brave
It flies in the face of fear

Oh my God... this dude is just too illy lyrical. Now this is Hip Hop at its finest. This dude implemented Scarface, yo hope for findin the one, and the different language of love and what it speaks in the same verse. Talib is like a Nas... his lyrics are so deep that most can't even fathom what he's speakin, ova the majority's heads. Love the philosophical poetry in verse 3. Talib is in the top 5 MCs of all time for sho.
