It burns like all hell and it has an unpleasant salty taste, but it is totally worth it. It took couple flare-ups over the course of a month for it to take, but I haven’t had any problems for over a year now.

I suffered with angular cheilitis for almost four years. In that time I tried a lot of different things to treat it, including various anti-fungal creams. All of them were all able to reduce soreness and close the cuts, but they never fully cured me. I read on a forum that baking soda worked well to heal the wounds by sucking up the moisture like a salt and essentially starving the infection so I began using it on the corners of my mouth. Ok, I have angular cheilitis but have no idea whether it's a bacterial or fungal infection (or both at the same time, yikes!). Antibacterial ointment gets rid of it really fast (in like 2 days), but then it comes back in a few days after I stop using it. Guess it's time to try the antifungal cream.

@Number1Rok lip balm keeps the moisture and the fungi actually spreads! and it prolongs the lifespan of it! :) so keep it dry and just apply the antifungal cream! if it burns, take it off immediately! It shouldnt burn at all!

I had angular cheletis for 2 Fking Years! I did this and it over! Seriously!... after a week its almost healed! I felt a little weird buying vaginal cream being a guy, but hey... totally worth it. Didn't do the B vitamins, or any of the other stuff just the vag cream. TOTALLY WORKED! p.s. don't eat the vag cream its gross.

a missing tooth also causes it. i was getting crowns last year, and went a couple of months without front teeth. As soon my teeth were gone in Dec. 2010, it came back. it also tends to disappear in the hot summer.

@bddblade because your body i lacking Vitamin B and then your immune system becomes weaker. Im not too sure in depth how it occurs but yeast doesnt just occur in the Vagina :)

@bddblade you can have cracks on ur lips just from being dry and you can be drooling at night in bed...the bacteria from ur mouth is in ur drool and gets into the cracks of ur lips and the bacteria/fungus grows.

@obadets3 check your diet. Are you drinking through a straw? try eating smaller things that dont get the corners wet. and you dont open your mouth too wide for it to crack open. Make sure its dry at all times and only apply the cream nothing else. Take vitamin b complex or vitamin b 2 and dont pick at it. :( You might have herpes 1 and break out in cold sores.... if possible, get checked out!

What worked for me was I bought the antifungal jock itch cream with Clotrimazole in it.......after I put that on I wait about 5 minutes and put the hydrocortozone 1% on I've been doing this for a week now.....I also went and bought some B vitamins supercomlex.........I also use vaseline on my lips cause my lips have been peeling......I only had splits on one side of my mouth but it has healed now and I can open my mouth real wide without it cracking again but i'm still paranoid it may crack

I posted here about a week ago, and just wanted to return to say this really worked!! I got Clotrimazole (aka Lotrimin but mine was just a generic brand) and that cleared everything in 2-3 days. Just using this for one day showed noticeable improvements. Like someone else said, I also used the hydrocortisone 1% and that helped a lot with the itching. THANK YOU so much for this video!

I had a similar problem, but also a bit different. The corners of my mouth started out cracked and had the symptoms, but after a few days of applying vaseline religiously my lips were fine but the area around the corners was like a rash and had itchy red bumps. I tried cold sore treatments, vagisil, hydration therapy lip balm, even acne cream (I thought it may reduce the redness/swelling) but it didn't work. I found this video and now I'm gonna try hydrocortisone 1% and lotrimin, thanks!

Also, a friend of mine recommended Blistex (make sure you use the ointment, because they also make regular lip balm). She said it helped with her own red and itchy bumps on her lips/cheeks. I haven't tried it yet, but I figured I'd share in case someone was still looking for another option

I tried several things but what really worked for me were these things (they are all over the counter but pretty inexpensive): lotrimin, 1% hydrocortisone cream, CeraVe moisturizing lotion, and aquafor healing ointment. Apply lotrimin first then hydrocortisone, then CeraVe during the day. At night, apply the lotrimin, hydrocortisone then aquafor. This is what a really good dermatologist in town recommended and mine was gone in 2 and a half days.

Hey there, thanks for the advice, I did a bit more research and any cream with miconazole or miconazole nitrate will do the trick. In most or Europe it's only available by prescription but it's very commonly prescribed for tinea cruris (jock itch) so if the guys watching out there don't want to ask for a feminine product, you can ask for something to treat jock itch instead. I havent ever used canesten but I found through trying out a few different home remedies that rubbing in Manuka honey 15 into the corners of my mouth several times and day and before going to bed at night helped the sores more than anything else-with regular applications It cleared up within 2 days and soothes the discomfort immediately. You only need a thin layer so when you put it on during the day it doesnt really show up and tasted pretty good too!

If you up your consumption of protein and fat, especially from animal foods, and, minimize consumption of acids and simple carbohydrates(sugars, fruits, yogurt, confections, starches, etc), the cracks should heal up.

The cracks are caused by imbalance in your diet. Too much carbohydrates and acids. I can make it happen, and I can heal it, purely with simple fundamental diet.

Canesten is a brand name apparently not available in the USA. The active ingredient is clotrimazole. This is used in a variety of products sold in your area at most major pharmacies.
