On the field and on the field, Pitt is far superior to Syracuse and Rutgers and even Missouri right now. You're right. Pitt provides no fresh blood when it comes to recruiting terrority or TV money. Penn State obviously has a strong presence in Western PA.
Honestly, as an SEC fan I see the following teams heading to the Big Tenif they head to a 16 team format: Pitt, Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Missouri. I don't really see Nebraska leaving the Big XII due to their easy path to the Big XII title game, but you can shuffle Nebraska, Syracuse, and Pitt around as to who would leave. That being said, the Big XII north would collapse if Nebraska and Missouri left and the SEC would pick off the rest: Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. Moving on.
All excellent points. Mizzou football may get a recruiting boost from the Big Ten connection to the Mideast as well. The Big 10 would love to make inroads into KC and STL as you note.
If Missouri was invited to the Big 10, they would join. They would certainly add viewers of the Big 10 in their predominately "pro-mizzou" KC and STL markets. Their football team can compete against anyone outside of OSU,and Penn State. Their improving basketball team is better than any other candidate for expansion outside of Pitt and Syracuse. If football is the sole priority, NU is a valid choice but surely MIZZ provides thicker viewing area, competition in other sports, in the end more $.
Nebraska would be a huge add competitively. Bo Pelini has the program back on the move. Like you say, the fan base is national. The local population is pretty sparse though - Omaha.
Nebraska's TV market is HUGE...like Pat Forde said on ESPN, Nebraska fans are spread throughout the country.. I guarantee more people will watch Nebraska vs. Michigan then Rutgers vs. Michigan or Missouri vs. Michigan. There a ton of Husker fans out there, there everywhere. Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Ohio State have the biggest fanbases in America i think. Nebraska brings in a huge TV market, as for basketball well ha everyone watches Creighton games in Omaha, no one cares about NU bball
Agree on the first point. ND wants to maintain independence. But if the Big East falls apart, ND may crack. Don't see the Big Ten splitting into four divisions. We're talking about a very traditional league...two divisions of eight teams. One title game with a number of major market options to host: Chicago, Minneapolis, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Detroit.
I think the only way Notre Dame gets in is if the Big East gets chopped up. So the Big ten will get 2 teams from the big 12 and big east which would leave it at 15 teams almost forcing Notre Dame to become the 16th team. When it goes to 16 teams it will be split up into 4 divisions of 4 teams having 4 team playoff with each division winner.

Pitt would help with comaptition. They are solid both in football and in basketball, and plus have a lot of tradition.

Thanks for the view. I just cut another video based on the Nebraska move and the Pac Ten crippling the Big 12. Next up: The Big Ten moves again.
