  • Annotations on the video would be really helpful to students new to the process.

Unless I'm mistaken, the removal of the pattern prior to casting wasn't very clear.

  • that's a hard labor! But sometimes it good learning things and how it was created from the basic! Informative!

  • in che materiale è la ciotola in cui fondete l'alluminio?

  • CAN ANYONE give me information about WHAT TYPE OF SAND i can use? I tried to find "Petrabond" sand but hard to find it is...

  • @halfmumi mifco.com

  • @ManufacturingET i'm in Australia Mate.Anyways, i found some services.Thanx.

  • @halfmumi

    ask-chemicals

  • nevermind I get it.

  • I don't know what sand casting is or what it does.

  • better than readin a fuckin book for exams thanks

  • thank u for the video

  • the way they do this looks kinda labour intensive

  • can any1ne plz tell me how do i download dis video??

  • @hashwi8 get the Free YouTube Downloader Converter 2.5 Build 20101220

  • Really interesting video. I'm currently studying Aernautical Engineering at Hertfordshire University. One of the modules is manurfacturing processes- it's really useful to see the process working rather just reading about it all the time.

    Thanks alot!

  • This was some interesting tecnique, thanks for uploading!

  • nice

  • Interesting stuff, too bad I couldn't hear what the guy was explaining.

  • that was beautiful

  • It would be better without the music. Otherwise pretty cool!

  • Great video!

  • whats the powder for at 0:17? to prevent the sand from sticking?

  • This really helped me with my homework :-)

  • Keep that sprew full!!! :D

  • mi piacce

  • @moshe99921 grazie

  • ma com è la composizione della terra rossa per le fusioni di alluminio è vero che ci devo mettere farina e borotalco???

  • why do you use a knife to cut the gates?

don't you have any proper foundry tools at hand?

    a lancet maybe?

  • Very nice! Great job there guys! Nice looking setup you have there. A few questions though: what kind of crucible are you using, did you make it yourself; and how did you shape the form for the mold?

  • aluminium right

  • hi in high school we used black sand

  • what kind of sand is used to make the mold

  • some people prefer greensand

  • is the part that shape the earth going to disappear? it burns when the liquid metal enters?

  • No it is removed. It is only used to make a cavity in the sand mold. A type of casting that liquid metal burns the model is lost foam casting.

  • That was cool !

  • THANKS IT WAS Very GOOD NICE STAGES

  • de que é feito o molde que é usado neste video???cera?? isopor ??nao vi ele tirando o molde da caixa, alguem pode me esclarecer??

  • O molde usado foi por areia verde

    >Areia

    >Agua

    >Argila Certu

  • that sand is looks like mansfield red and no you canot have to buy it in, but if u want to do loads of casting go for green sand

  • what kind of sand their using? have anyone know? can we make it DIY?

  • It's called Petrobond. It's oil bonded instead of water. Way better for the home or hobby guy. You can mull it up and it keeps for a very long time.

  • Very clever, using the sander with no protection :/...

  • This was very educational but at least we got to listen to 90's porno music.

  • este video es un poco prehistorico,¿no hos parece?

  • No, de verdad no me parece prehistorico. Este es un proceso que todavia es usado en todo el mundo para producir productos, especialmente para aplicaciones de plomeria, entre otras cosas

  • it is oiled sand ?

  • you don't need to use parting compound in the beginning, and you don't want to get to much of it on the pattern

  • but how strong is that?

  • what is that aluminum cast going to be used for?

  • hey they forgot to wear gloves at the end.

  • thay dont need them

  • you never want to wear gloves when your working on machine that have moving parts, something could get caught. ok, never say never, there are some rare occasions when you should wear glove

  • Why don't you turn down the music and narrate the process, I'm interested to know the steps...

  • @NigelHollioake Why dont you watch the fuckin video and then make up the steps ! Heat up the aluminium then make fill the basin with sand. the pattern is made from jelutong. The pattern is made from polystyrene foam. the pattern is sandwhiched between the the cope and the drag, the sand is a special oil bound sand. you then make two hole so you can pour the molten in, the holes are filled, then bops your teapot and let to cool.

  • use a gate knife for cutting ingates and a small pouring bush would help too

  • can this prcoedure be use for gold as well

  • nice job people

  • do you happen to know the composition of green sand?

  • sorry if i sound ignorant but what happens to the Styrofoam that was in there does it just dissolve from the heat? and what was that white powder you used, was it to prevent the 2 halves from sticking or something?

  • This type of casting does not use styrofoam -- you might Google "evaporative foam casting" or "lost foam casting" for the details of that process. This is "loose pattern sand casting." In this process, the pattern is removed after the sand is packed around it. The powder is parting compound - it keeps the pattern from sticking.

  • @ManufacturingET

I have a question about that.

I've seen people cast shapes like a skull etc in this way, but if your design has concave shapes, how do you remove the pattern without ruining the mould?

  • @Hyshinara It's not really concave, just tapered. The thick side is placed at the parting line between the two halves of the boxes (gah, mind went blank, forgot what they're called..)

  • don't use a swiss army knife to cut your ingat use a spoon!!!!!

  • what were they casting?

  • It was a mold for a vacuum thermoforming operation.

  • Best P.P.E. I've seen yet.
