About four years ago it rained past July, and the Mulberry rocked right up to August! Best summer ever for those of us who live right up the Pigtrail! So far, this year it's great, too. Little cold back in April, though! :)
We floated the Buffalo last weekend right after they lifted the flood stage warning, which is most generally a lot tamer than the Mulberry. It was rockin' and a'reelin'!! I can't imagine what the Mulberry is like right now!
That undercut rock you hurt your hand on is called "Sacroiliac."
Yes, the Mulberry can be ran without flotation, but it is never a good idea. Every time I paddle the Mulberry I pass boaters with boats pinned on rocks because they had no flotation.
you did.I kayaked and I sprained my hand on the legendary rock..what was it's name? it has currents right to it and it's huge..it hit it perfect and hurt my hand, then got stuck between 2 rocks and took 10 minutes to get out..Ive also floated the white and the buffalo.
Hopefully April '08, Im in Houston, so I was planning on taking a looong weekend, I'll leave on Thursday, return to Houston on a Monday, so that give me whole weekend to explore the river.
I"M FROM HOUSTON!!! I live in NW Arkansas now. I escaped the humidity and traffic. It's nice up here but I miss the Guadelupe River. The rivers up here are SO rain dependant. They come up fast and go down fast. The watersheds are so different up here too. If it rains anywhere in central Texas the guadelupe goes up. It could rain 3 miles from the Mulberry but if its on the other side of a hill it will never see the Mulberry. In other words, if the water is up you better hurry!
I was trying to Itunes this TESLA song, what is the name of it??? IM so lookin forward to making a trip to run the Mulberry either the end of March or April!! ; )
It's been 25 or so years since I floated the Mulberry, your video brought back some fond memories. I need to make that trip again some time. Good work on the camera.
I live in the actual town of Mulberry... such a boring place :)
