Why is this guy considered so great? His intonation is decent, but he makes all sorts of contact noise that you would never hear from a good concert violinist.

his intonation is fine. He's not a classical violinist. He plays in Dave Matthews Band where making a little bit of contact noise isn't really an issue. But I will agree he is probably not the best choice of violinist for this. He's more suited for what he does for DMB.

actually, he is classically trained, but his professional style is more jazz/folk style like DMB, so i agree with the rest, he is more suited to jammin with DMB... still pretty much the coolest guy ever...
