  • Being a long time fan of the Sneaker Pimps brought me here...

  • This is good.

  • Honor Blackman was a Bond girl in Goldfinger. She went by the name Pussy Galore! I do think the Sneaker Pimps did an excellent job on this video and the song itself is quite resonant.

  • I forgot Honor Blackman was in this Love her!

  • Pussy Galore - a retrospective

  • I could listen to this song every day for 100 years!!! Love it!

  • Only 266k views! that's bollocks!

  • i want to look like that when i get old

  • best fucking band ever

  • Lyrics are fucking SEXY!!!!!

  • Their songs just made my entire day

  • WELL...it seems that "loretta y silks..." has an official video clip, right? where is it?

  • @SarcasmRules9 Nobody cares you hipster.

  • @Thizzpwnt You made my day. Thank you.

  • Most of my music DOES NOT include much from the radio mostly from songs we NEVER hear like this one!!

  • This song has all the characteristics of a timeless piece of art

  • every time i hear it its like the first time love it

  • Look at Miss Honor Blackman aka Pussy Galore- fabulous

  • "Soft focus for full appeal." Loretta Young's camera man invented the practice of putting silk stockings over the lens to create the soft focus look.

  • @Beezy8701 interesting note on the Lorretta Young camerman technique ...seeking style over content , a nice hook & prevelent in pop social culture . Especially many follow the super rich & celebrity & the youth caught up in the latest overproduced style phenom ...all fluff & no content . Lady Gaga's upcoming show on HBO in may should be interesting ....Britany still raking it in , wished the girl would learn to dance, at least Natalie Portman worked @ Ballet for 10mos for Black Swan ,

  • Day9 fag here. Anyone else think of "Anguihs" the film when waching this.

  • kind of like the film Anguish (1987)

  • The lady reminds me of Catherine Deneauve in "The Hunger"...same type of dress and even the way lighting is set on her...really cool.

  • MMMMM SEX TO MY EARS!

  • I never would have guessed this was them. WOW such a change from 6 underground. Guess I need to listen to more of their stuff.

  • wtf is Day[9]?

  • day9 brought me here

  • DAY[9] MADE ME DO IT

  • Day [9]'s fanbase wuz here

  • Day [9] made me do it...

  • Day9 mob deep!

  • Day[9] strikes again! Pre-Daily 246!

  • Like if Day9 sent you here. =]

  • Love it love it..

  • ♥ Really like this and most of their work.

  • she was pussy galore in goldfinger!

  • This is a true song indeed. Hey, I fully respect what Kelli did for the Sneaker Pimps and she was a great singer AND at first i didn't like the idea of Chris trying to take over BUT... He can have this song... His voice, like hers, is very unique and i just think it this song would suit him better, with the tone/pitch of his voice and emotion. Good Job Chris and also, Thank You Kelli you did us proud and good luck with your future endeavours. Hope to see you again.

  • This Music is too Good for the Mainstream.

Just like the song mentions, Its all..

    "Style Before Content" Haha!

  • Day[9]!

    Pre-Daily #216

    :D

  • I swear. I fall in love with whatever they do. Chris or Kelli, I love both of their voices. This band, in general, is purely genius.

  • Thank you Queer as Folk for introducing me to this song. Now I have more awesome music to listen to. Thanks.

  • Day[9] sent me here.

  • @youngminii Day[9] fan signing in.

  • @youngminii Strange.....i just got done watching Day[9]'s daily.....

  • this is still a fav song, n if it existed before my ipod, it was probably played more than anyyything

  • fact: i've listened to this song over 2000 times... and i still fucking love it! chris is sex.

  • i know people say sneakers pimps is nothing without kelli, but really, she can still hold her own and this song is BEAUTIFUL. Their parting diminished neither.

  • one of my favorite songs ever!!

  • right now this is my fav song

  • I heard this watching Queer As Folk. Pretty awesome song.

  • for whatever reason this is a really great sex song. O.o don't be hating. I love this song sooo much.

  • saw this last night on qaf, good ol LOGO

AND FELL IN LOVE AGAIN!!! this song is amazing

  • damn, now when i hear this i think of an old lady

  • Wow, I could only hope to be on the relevant side of the culture curve at 80....respect.

  • I love this song, it reminds me of a special night.

  • Has anyone else noticed, that the chorus is almost identical to the chorus of the muse song - plug in baby?

  • @spongebob163 : I was just watching this evening the queer as folk in which the song is featured abd yes Is was like " which Muse song is it"?

  • yes,u're right,so damn right!

  • love this song

  • I agree it doesn't compare to the album version. But god so I adore this track.

  • I was gonna buy this from Itunes but the album version is a different version than this and it doen't sound nearly as good as this one. I hate when artist release a video version different than the album.

  • Me and Al like like a mofo!

  • it sounds like she's saying "fashioning yourself as gay"

like a fashionable gay person or something...

  • It's true! They should have enunciated the vocals better. I thought it was "You sell Loretta Young silks, fashioning yourself as gay" for the longest time.. *lol*

  • really? I'm sorry I just don't hear it guys, it sounds clear to me.

  • I hate you, now I can't unhear it xD

  • she is a he ;)

  • that's not what's said

  • He sings "fashioning your self-escape"....

  • She was billed as "Gretchen Young" in the 1917 film, Sirens of the Sea. It wasn't until 1928 that she was first billed as "Loretta Young", in The Whip Woman. That same year she co-starred with Lon Chaney in the MGM film Laugh, Clown, Laugh. The next year, she was anointed one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars.

  • if you double the speed it's foxtrot uniform charly kilo (bloodhoundgang)!

  • the acoustic of this song is amazing- i heard it before i heard the original and i prefer it because of much stronger it is emotionally

just my 2 cents though! i really like the video that goes with it too

  • Hey am i the only one who noticed, this songs chorus is almost identical to muse plug in baby?

  • your click track heart

  • lol

i wish i knew what that meant

  • So, the song is clearly about the high image expectations of the media, and our culture as a whole, and just how artificial it has proven to be.

What I don't get is the Loretta Young Silks part. Who the hell is that?

  • sneaker pimps is art

  • I love Honor Blackman in this, she's really beautiful despite being in her 70's when this was filmed, she's come along way from being Pussy Galore and she was in that programme with Joe mcgann where he is the housekeeper and she is the interfering mother in law, cant remember what it was called but she was, good song too!!!

  • i love this song i heard it on a episode of queer as folk love it

  • I don't think either of them were better apart. Kelli was mostly good with them and they were mostly good with her, with a few exceptions here and there. Their live performances together were another matter entirely however...

  • One of the most powerful songs I've ever heard, especially from Sneaker Pimps. I'm glad that even after the lineup had changed this project produced great music... unlike many other bands from the nineties. If I could rate this video I'd give it 6 stars

  • @kevreedbick I agree the song is fabulous- but what was wrong with bands in the nineties??- It think things were so much better back then, musically speaking .. You're right about the lineup changing , and the song though it's great

  • i seriously cant get enough of this song :D it's so catchy ^^

  • what does loretta young silks mean?

  • It refers to silk cloth over a camera, an early washing technique for films. It's sort of like a metaphor for being fake.

  • I interpret that to mean "flimsy and superficial". Loretta Young had her own tv show where she made a dramatic entrance furling her silky gown. Her TV shows had an infuriating moral subtext that seemed to go great with her TV sponsor's message. I would have to watch an episode to refresh the memory, but it is a catchy and provocative lyric- would love to hear what the author has to say about it!

  • yea someone told me she used silk over the camera lense - sort of a precursor to our present day soft focus

  • probably one of the best songs of all time...

  • i prefer this music played by Slimmy*.*

  • i totally agree with tallguyy76

  • I like them so much better with Chris Corner. Splinter was their best album

  • Have to disagree. Corner's singing of their songs gives them a depth and quiet, understated intensity that was lacking in Kelli Ali's bubblegum vocals. I think she worked on Becoming X because her vocals worked against the bleakness of the material and made it more accesible. I don't think her vocals would have worked with later Pimps material. Trip Hop as a genre died out out in the US and electronic took a diffrent direction in the UK. Goldfrapp, Gorillaz ect added humor, irony & sex appeal.

  • if you like this song listen to "pure" from "the gift", portuguese group... i lov'it

  • Not an easy answer, the correct answer. Not that Corner doesn't do a good job, they just went from working as a collective on the music (leaving the vocals more to Kelli Ali), to Corner taking over everything. Him being so focused on his other bands and stuff as well meant that while the music wasn't bad, but everyone in the band kind of trailed off. Love the Sneaker Pimps to death, but Becoming X is definitely the best album.

  • easy answer would be... the loss of Kelli Ali.... but i dunno.. this lead singer seems ok..

  • << wonders what stopped this group from being big.

  • they kicked kelli out the band... what do u think happens when they kick out their front... its like a business trying to change its brand right when its gaining momentum, a supremely retarded decision that ruined their chance

  • Becoming x is a far more superior album to Bloodsport but change isnt always bad. And i have to admit that a handful of their newer songs are fucking awesome.

    Like this one.

  • thats a fair comment. like it!

  • its such and amazing song AND video.. so powerful.. really great.

  • So damn awesome... I just can't stop singing this!

  • You know thats chris himself on the screen, and Loretta Young was a famous actress in the 20's-50's, she symbolized vanity and decadence in her time. As for being in a slang dictionary, thats someone elses opinion.

  • swapping your love for hate?..))

  • yes

  • What movie is she watching?

Looks familiar but i cant remember for the life of me. hmmm

  • from bratgoddess:

"I remember reading in a slang dictionary, that being called Loretta Young Silk, is an insult. It means to be superficial, shallow and too perfect physically. Like this video is comparing the two women-one who is getting "improvements" on her face with the other just watching and accepting her age."

as the video features Honor Blackman of The Avengers & Bond fame, could that be her watching one of her oldies or maybe even a Loretta Young film?...hard to tell from that face))

  • love it!

  • Does anybody else find the chorus of this song reminds them of the chorus to Muse's song 'Plug In Baby'? That's not to say anybody copied anybody else, before devoted fans of either band arm themselves with predictably unoriginal insults and aim them at me :)

  • they totally remind me of muse xD

  • omg you're right! they do sound like muse

  • only better)

  • noe what, i was just thinkin about the same thing lol

  • I'm glad someone out that has a similar brain to me :D

  • ("out there", even)

  • "Got answers for everyone, Endless excuses" Like so many people I've known, this song fits! "Fashioning yourself as Gay" at every different part of this song make me think of different people at different points in my life. LOVE IT!

  • It is actually "Fashioning your self-escape"

Loretta Young-Silks was an actress born in 1917. Life as an actor was a lot harder than it was today especially for a woman. They worked very long days and were at the total mercy of the studio (Look up Judy Garland and you will understand)

  • HER NAME was Loretta Young.. Not Loretta Young Silks.. That is the title of the song. It is a song on the nature of vanity and the abandonment of the depth of love in humans(amoung other things). Loretta Young was VERY well known in her day. She has only since faded slightly from the minds of our rampid youth. Those that sing to fabulous songs such as this but seem to put on a facade of depth and don't even understand any of it. She won an Oscar for Best Actress in The Farmers Daughter in 1948.

  • You are the moron lol Anyone that takes the time to blast someones thought-provoking Comment has issues of low mediocrity at best.

  • This doesn't even make sense. Stop using words you don't understand. It doesn't make you look smart, it makes you look stupid.

  • Comment removed

  • great song

  • I just started getting into this band and they sound great. I hope for mercy shuns from people! D:

Is there any other artists who sound like this aswell...? Expanding my music and all. But I think this song is well enchanting to listen to :)

  • the only thing better than this song.. is the acoustic version -of- this song <333 (love this song)

  • haha its good that sneaker pimps got underrated...usually good music are always unnoticed, except to people who have reaaallly good taste in music - YOU! ;)

  • Such a striking woman, even in her old age. Time has been kind to Ms. Blackman.

  • Lovely chorus ;)

  • "Soft focus for full appeal, pictured as flawless".

    <3

  • "Swapping your love for hate."

Without doubt the most underrated Brit band of the 90's/early 00's.

  • you are absolutely right jaypsura, I really wish sneaker pimps had gotten more attention. :(

  • beautiful and reflective

  • you sell loretta young silks

  • great song!

  • I think its strange that this album was never available in the US. I love this band, and you have to hunt for the music, but it would be nicer just to buy the cd.

  • I bought 2 of the 'Bloodsport' albums off ebay, JUST to make sure i never ruined one or had to go without. My band covered this song years ago, considering bringing it back.... such a brilliant tune.

  • Weird video, but excellent song.

  • I Can't Even find this song on Limewire!! Just gives me shit that I can't even download :(

  • Buy the CD, it's worth it.

  • I agree, buy the CD! You won't regret it

  • just download this song on Ares

  • Why does Queer as Folk have such good songs in it? ._.

  • lol i just looked this song up because of that episode, when justin's in daph's room remembering brian. i was like "LIMEWIRE!!!"

  • I love Qaf for the music too....And for B/J's relationship of course.

  • lol the music is def awesome..i am always looking up music from the episodes; the music just makes everything that much better

    love. it.

  • I was wondering myself too. I think we love this show for the music too. Music in qaf is an "actor" too.

  • did anyone has the chords of this song? can u telll what it is? anyone?!

cos i'd try to search in google but i still can't find it. pleasee. can somebody give me the link to the chords of this song?

  • does he sing YOUR SO loretta young silks or you sell -||- ?? :S

  • It's 'you're so Loretta Young silks.'

  • you're so

  • sell

  • This song is amazing. I personally like Chris' voice better than Kelli's.

    And Kelli can't sing live...

  • I love this song far too much.

Chris has such a beautiful voice.

  • e ceva aparte

  • a perfect song

  • awesome vid & song, so true.

  • You guys should check out IAMX. It is another band that Chris Corner is involved with. Actually better than Sneaker Pimps.

  • Nuh uh.

    IAMX is pretty good though.

  • Seen IAMX live. Good, but nowhere near as good as the 'Pimps

  • NOoo way, tooo much difference.. The Pimps died the second they lost Kelli.

  • Not the least. They took a better direction, and Becoming X was possibly their worst album... I think Bloodsport was the best, by far. Chris Corner is the heart of the band. If Kelli was so integral, they wouldn't have been able to achieve this level of success without her.

  • Great song! American Models should listen intently!!!!!

  • great song!.. I love it!

  • love this song!

  • why Loretta Young? does any one know what inspired the Loretta Young reference.

  • if you find out, please let me know. I love Loretta Young. Thanks!

  • Sneaker Pimps never really disclosed, but it's speculated that the usage of Loretta Young has to do with the meaning of the song itself.

Personally, I think they used her as a good actress, and the song's about a girl who puts up a front and acts in front of everyone to hide her true emotions.

Has Young ever acted like that in her life, or performed as a character like that? It'd make sense.
