I am a bass player and I think Eddie Jackson is extremely underrated as a bassist. Has anyone listened to Queensryche? This man is playing all of these bass parts with 2 fingers. He doesn't use the 3 finger technique like many great bassists do. Just listen to "the needle lies on "Operation Mind Crime" . Come on people give this man his props damn it!!!
@twentyfour714 I got to talk to RJD maybe a year ago at the airport coming off a flight. I shouted something like "loved you on OM2", and he said he had a blast doing it. That made a great impression on me, that he actually answered me back. And he said he enjoyed working with QR on OM2. He must have been a nice guy. RIP!
@johnnyarockalypse here in the uk promised land got very mixed reviews.from what i read the band were having lots of arguments plus their private lives were in a mess, hence some songs on the album detailing breakdowns of one sort or another.q2k was dreadful so was here in the now frontier...without chris de garmo they are a shadow of their former self...and i was a huge fan,met them a few times and was in the u.s. based fan club.
My brother passed away last December, at the age of 37. He had a very aggressive form of cancer, but during his illness both of us drew great spiritual strength from this song. Queensryche is one of our favorite metal bands, and we'll always be connected by their music. My brother went down fighting, and he was the best man I've ever known, all the way to the end. Thank you Queensryche for helping me preserve a wonderful memory of a truly great man I was lucky to call my brother....ROCK ON!!
Growing up, my mother always blasted ryche on the weekends, when I was 7 i knew every song. One of the best bands of all time in my eyes "who do you trust when everyones a crook" "Revolution Calling!"
Effin rock on, I forgot about this track, this is one of the greatest songs ever orchestrated. These guys are brilliant, too bad radio recognizes shit music. Another Rainy Night and I dont believe in love are my other favorites from the real killer queen(sryche)
I remember the other singles from this album were played a lot on daytime MTV, but for some reason this video was only played a couple times late at night on Headbanger's Ball. I never understood it because this song is even better than the other ones.
Even today the other 3 videos get played on vh1classic a lot, but not this one.
This is one pf the most amazing songs ever! It has soooo much to tell! The music is fantastic, it makes you think, it makes you cry, it makes you optimistic, and it gives you shit loads of energy, a real burst of it! When I feel down I always listen to Queensryche!
Haven't heard them live in a LOOOONNGG time but I did have the pleasure of being at a Seahwks/Saints game 2 years ago in Seattle and Geoff Tate did the national anthem! He still sounds great as ever and really did nail the anthem
These days you may be right. Geoff doesnt' seem to be able to sing nearly like he used to. But back then, up until sometime after "Empire", very few could sing as well, let alone better, than he could. Cornell is fantastic, but I don't think even he was ever as good as '85-'91 Geoff Tate.
@beowulf1963 I agree w/ the Killingword. they are diffrent styles, but also diffrent value. Ga Ga has a diffrent style too, but it doesn't keep her from being crap. Don't get me wrong, Pearl Jam ain't crap, I love them, but we have to give Cesar what belongs to Cesar. U can't compare styles, but u can compare value!
Uuh, whatta great great ol´ fashion heavy band. Kicks ass so hard still and 4 ever more. Tate has awesome voice and notice the co-operation of 2 brilliant guitarists - De Garmo and Wilton. Yes! QR rulez!

This is one of the most AWESOME albums ever !!! and I say ALBUM because I grew up to bands such as this during the REAL ROCK era and we had albums, but I do have the cd also lol :)~
I discovered Queensryche a lil over a year ago, There music really speaks to the real emotions of people, like the deep inner workings of the mind, Ilove these Bastards!!!!!!!!
Queensryche were : Geoff Tate {Vocals} ; Chris DeGarmo {Guitar} ; Michael Wilton {Guitar} & Scott Rockenfield {Drums} All in all a really sensational bandEmpire was a brilliant album
Their music was special, loud vocals & great guitarsPity they have disbanded now
Actually, not necessarily disbanded, but have lost a KEY member in Chris DeGarmo. I've been following these guys since the 80's. (yeah, yeah showing my age:::: another b-day on Tues-whew!.::::) but anyway, great arrangment. Although "Mindcrime" was their most "produced" album, you still have to have solid songs to make the grade. That being said, much talent there!
ya im sad degarmo left the band. I guess he's flying commercial jets nowadays for some airline. Kelly gray is badass tho to fill n all his parts. I saw them live just before they released mindcrime 2. Badass been a fan since 85'
i saw them on the "empire" tour. i think it was 1992. they played most of "mindcrime" that night. it was pretty cool. suicidal tendencies opened up for them. i was heavy into Queensryche at the time.
danrush - im sorry to have to agree with you. i think they just need to focus a bit. chris degarmo's talent was evident, and is sadly missed by some fans.
but the singer was incredible 20 years ago, and michael wilton kicked ass. eddie jackson, too. drums - just ok.
There was no choice in the matter. Many knee injuries will prevent a person from playing sports or working in a specific field but it doesn't mean you can't run...
Ace...Queensryche is currently on tour right now promoting the American Soldier album. In fact at the time of this comment they are performing a concert in Zaragoza Spain. Go to their web site for tour info
I believe this video was banned from MTV in it's day. Too controversial with the "self accident gun shooting" and saying an "inner city" person made it out of poverty via the NBA. MTV as always, missed the boat on this one. Really great, motivating song saying that a man's spirit will not be confined to a wheelchair or a bad situation if he does the best he can, he will be able to reach his dreams.
This is Law of attraction before it became what it is today. This group has grown just as the plan in this song! The great things Queensryche is doing for the troops with their concerts and all is being the one can and as they give so shall they receive. Great job!!!!
I seen these guys for the American Soldier tour, holy fuck they played Rage For Order,American Soldier, and Empire. Great concert, they sounded very good. I must say I was impressed when I left the concert.
First off, good choice. Best band of the 80's IMO. As for what to choose, I'd go with albums over songs. Their earliest stuff is the best - Rage for Order, The Warning, Operation: Mindcrime (Get the LiveCrime CD/DVD from '91 instead of the studio version - I listened to both, and the band is AMAZING on LiveCrime), & Empire. American Soldier (released at the end of March) is great as well.
Between iTunes, Best Buy, and your local music store, you should have no problem getting everything.
Why should we have to choose to watch in HD quality...I would think that watching the video in the HD quality would be expected. Let me choose to watch in crappy quality...sheesh...
What a fuckin SONG!

Just buy the Empire cd. One of the best albums of all time IMO. Almost every single song on it is great. A must buy!
