  • How long should you wait until it dries?

  • I like to use double sided Tape Because you don't get sticky fingers while doing it <3 x

  • to hard. im to lazy

  • what kind of glue did you use. School glue never works!

  • I've used plain cotton, usually muslin, rather than bandage material/guaze and this works fine. For the end band I've also taken a piece of bookbinding cloth and have rolled it over a thick piece of twine. It isn't as pretty as your use of embroidery cotton, but it is easier. Great video and instructions!

  • I used ribbon wrapped around the card using this method and it came out very nicely. ^.^

  • Squishyfroggie: What a cool thing to do, I hope they enjoy them.

  • my text block is sitting under a pile of books right now!!! i'm so excited to wake up in the morning to finish my journal off :D if i enjoy the process enough, i will be making various journals and giving them to teenagers with mental disorders at a local psychology clinic so they have something to let their feelings out in!

  • Great Video's!!

  • finally, a good book binding video that even I can understand

  • i do end tabs while sewing the signatures together. a piece of ribon that hangs over the edge of the signature very slightly, and with each pass of the thread i wrap it around and through the ribbon at either side.

  • i know you can make the spine you could just get a long peice of card and paint the top

  • do u live in the NZ cause i do

  • Just got done putting the glue on the spine and waiting for it to dry! You made the sewing instructions SUPER EASY, and im not a crafty person! Thank you so so much for these videos! :D

  • this is great, thanks. I learned to bind a few years back and am trying to remember all the tricks, etc.

tip: for end tabs, you can glue and roll an ultra thin piece of leather or any heavy fabric, around a short string. Let it dry, then cut the string off the ends.

  • what book did u get this from? or did u make it up urself?

  • I used info from several books, got the best from them, sorry no idea what those books were

  • Do you need that tapes thing and the bandage material or can you use something else

  • Sorry, I'm not expert, this is the only way I know

  • The tapes are typically linen, cotton, or rarely vellum. You can buy tape that is specifically made for bookbinding, or cut some strips out of shirting or lightweight cotton. The "bandage" material is called spine reinforcement, and is typically a loose weave material called "mull," but lightweight linen is also used in fine bindings.

My suggestion for the headband is to sew it directly into the signatures/bookblock, or onto a piece of cloth..there is a stitch specificially for headbands.

  • hallo, nice videos!

You ask how to made a headband. I know how. The way I do it is much differend, less messy and stronger. Look at my video: -boekbinden deel III zw0901 bookbinding part 3- the spine/headband making start at min 5.35. Making a beautiful headband (in Holland we call it kapitaalband) is the best part of bookbinding!

  • hi christiaan, cant find the vid on your account??? Did you delete it?

  • Making Headband - Cut strip of material (with fine stripes of white/red, or white/black, or white/ blue, whatever color you need) about an inch thick and as long as you want. Cut strand of thin cord (butchers twine, jute). Cover material with glue, wrap material around cord, use bone folder to shape. Let dry then cut headbands to width of spine.

  • You can always use scrap paper, like what you put on the spine, if you don't have any bandage material.

  • Just cos thats the instructions from the book. I suppose its enough to make it strong, and not too much that its thick and messy

  • not sure. It might not be as strong. Let me know how it turns out

  • I will :)

btw Why do you cut the materiel and bandage to 1 cm??

  • damn I was making this and now I don't hae any bandage material ... do I really need that?

  • thankyou, i cant wait to try this now!
