Ovechkin is a typical russian. I ike him, and it'd be fun to be his friend, but you can't base your team around him. He's not a good 'player', he's a tenacious scorer. Thats all. Everytime I watch a Pens game its not the same without Crosby in the lineup. Sure the Pens can obviously win without him in the lineup, however Crosby adds more entertainment to the Pens games. I grew up watching Lemieux and Jagr in the 90's. Crosby and Malkin remind me of these two players. This year Crosby, Malkin and Staal have only played 2 NHL games together in the lineup it's so frustrating...but the Pens know how to win LETS GO PENS! LETS GO PENS.!
How good a player is depends on who he's surrounded by if an all-star plays bad there is a chance that his teammates were fucking up or the defense has figured out there scheme

Crosby is a center which requires him to be an "overall" player. Ovechkin is a winger which requires him to cover the point when in the defensive zone. People don't seem to realize Knuble is about even with Dupuis by this point in his career, and Backstrom has never been much of a player on his own. I think under Dale Hunter, Ovechkin will now return to a more offensive threat in the NHL. Bruce Boudreau prevented the likes of Ovechkin and Semin from scoring goals. This is based on his transition from an offensive team effort to a defensive orientated team. The reason Boudreau implemented this system was to create a deep playoff run which failed. Dale Hunter was a former Captain of the Capitals and knows what it takes to win.

In my book, I say Crosby is a step above Ovi. Considering in Ovi's first partial season in Moscow Dynamo he had only 4 points in 21 games. While Crosby had 135 points in 59 games, and 168 points in 62 games the next season. Now, in the NHL Ovi's first year was better than Crosby's first year (mind you only by 4 points). But this past season Crosby was on pace for 64 goals and 130+ points, a point total in which Ovi has never touched. Plus, Crosby has won a Stanely Cup and Olympic gold.

Ovie is far and away the best player in the world. Over 300 goals in five seasons is probably his most impressive stat. But he has an amazing plus minus career wise as well as point totals. That on top of all the MVP awards from league and players association and his scoring titles and Calder trophy, blows Sid out of the water. Plus Sids career is over with thanks to Steckel. Ovie will be around for another 10yrs+.
also (barring this concusion things really messing crosby up for life) the style of play ovechkin has will limit his career to at most 8 nhl seasons. crosby is gonna have a long long succesful career so when people look baack they probably wont even be able to compare the two anymore cuz crosby's career is gonna be much more succesful

lol @chuckaberga, you take stats from last year, we can take stats from years before which would prove Ovechkin scored more goals than Crosby. Crosby is a center which requires him to be an "overall" player. Ovechkin is a winger which requires him to cover the point when in the defensive zone. Most of Crosbys goals are from the blue paint, the so called GARBAGE GOALS. He either tips them in or just grabs the rebound. He's a good player but hes not better then ovechkin. Ovechkin is a BEAST

ok, crosby has almost half as many points as ovie this year in only 5 games... ovie has 23 games 17 points crosby has 5 and has 10... ovie takes on one defender... crosby has to deal with two because he is a center... crosby back checks... ovie sits at a blue line... crosby plays the whole length of the ice... and whatever ovie does crosby is a year younger and when crosby gets to that age he normally matches or beats ovies stats... the debate is over...

Sure, he can dominate the bottom feeding Senators, the fallen Canadiens, and the laughable Islanders, but when it came down to St. Louis, he was pointless, when it came to Washington, he was pointless, and he got 2 assists against the Rangers. So far he hasn't done much against solid teams.

@Viperstrike28 Crosby's wingers aren't as bad compared to Ovechkin's as everyone makes them out to be. People don't seem to realize Knuble is about even with Dupuis by this point in his career, and Backstrom has never been much of a player on his own. Sure, as a whole Ovechkin's wingers ARE definitely better than Crosby's, I'm not saying they aren't. But it's not nearly as huge of a gap as you would think.

I think under Dale Hunter, Ovechkin will now return to a more offensive threat in the NHL. Bruce Boudreau prevented the likes of Ovechkin and Semin from scoring goals. This is based on his transition from an offensive team effort to a defensive orientated team. The reason Boudreau implemented this system was to create a deep playoff run which failed. Dale Hunter was a former Captain of the Capitals and knows what it takes to win.

This is because Sid learned to play the game where all of the dominant players learned to play, In the greatest hockey country in the World. I can't believe this is even being debated. There is nothing to debate here. Sid makes the players around him better also. Throw whatever stats you have about Ovi. Still doesn't matter. Anyone who knows hockey would understand this.

Ovechkin has been better in the playoffs throughout their careers and has had the best season between them. Datsyuk's 2 way play and dangling ability makes the argument that if he wasn't defensively responsible and focused solely on offense, he could be better than Crosby at scoring.

Yes Ovechkin has more personal awards, but any player would rather have 1 stanley cup ring than 15 Rocket Richard trophies. Crosby also took a "paycut" of 8.7M so the Pens would have more cap space. Pens games Im sure are sold out, and Crosby was compared to Gretzky you tool. He was called the Next One. Gretzky also said Sid was probably the only one to break some of his records.

Eric Lindros was "the next one" before Crosby was. Gretzky isn't a scout for a reason. Nobody will break ANY of his records for at least another decade, probably longer. The idea of Crosby even scoring 150 points, let alone 200, or even 70 goals, let alone 90, is purely laughable.

In my book, I say Crosby is a step above Ovi. Considering in Ovi's first partial season in Moscow Dynamo he had only 4 points in 21 games. While Crosby had 135 points in 59 games, and 168 points in 62 games the next season. Now, in the NHL Ovi's first year was better than Crosby's first year (mind you only by 4 points). But this past season Crosby was on pace for 64 goals and 130+ points, a point total in which Ovi has never touched. Plus, Crosby has won a Stanely Cup and Olympic gold.

@petrock68 you are aware that Moscow Dynamo is a mens league right? and Junior aged players like Ovie get little in the way of ice time and that comparing Crosby's stats in a league designed for junior aged players to that is unfair right? Granted i agree that Sid has passed Ovechkin by recently(Ovie can still catch back up) but comparing Junior stats is highly biased towards Crosby

Ovie is far and away the best player in the world. Over 300 goals in five seasons is probably his most impressive stat. But he has an amazing plus minus career wise as well as point totals. That on top of all the MVP awards from league and players association and his scoring titles and Calder trophy, blows Sid out of the water. Plus Sids career is over with thanks to Steckel. Ovie will be around for another 10yrs+.

also (barring this concusion things really messing crosby up for life) the style of play ovechkin has will limit his career to at most 8 nhl seasons. crosby is gonna have a long long succesful career so when people look baack they probably wont even be able to compare the two anymore cuz crosby's career is gonna be much more succesful

ovechkin has missed two 100 point seasons without being injured . crosby has only missed two 100 point seasons because of injury. ovie's speed and shot is unmatchable. but crosby's on ice vision and abilitiy to make something out of nothing is unmatchable , both play differently . ones more brute force , ones more technical . all in all the thing thatp uts crosby over ovie , is everything ovie done . crosby did it at 19 . crosby is more clutch

@newfieballer1 all your doing is listed age records. and your right as good as crosby, hes better. just take a look at the stats, look at their stats in "clutch" situations, look at the PPG look at the hits, look at the +\- look at the individual awards, look at the individual records. all in Ovechkins favor. you judge a players skill by their individual accomplishments. OV has way more individual accomplishments than Crosby. im not trying to be a "crosby sucks" type guy but the stats dont lie.

If there wasn't a lockout durin ovechkins first eligible year to play then who knows? maybe he would be the youngest to accomplish those feats. overall, crosby is a better player because of his vision and ability to play effectively on both ends of the ice. He also slows the play down while ovis always 100mph

@newfieballer1 Stop talking out of your ass. Ovechkin was drafted in 2004. The season after that (04-05) was a lockout. Crosby was then drafted in 05. That made it possible for them both to enter the league in 05-06. I thought this was common knowledge? Ovi would have definitely played in 04-05 if there was a season. It's pretty obvious that i DO know the draft years and eligibilities, and that you're some kind of fake fan who prob just started watching hockey two years ago.

When Ovechkin scores a playoff goal, there's a 44% chance it will be with his team behind. Almost half of his goals are helping his team erase a deficit. Crosby? 26.7%. There's a 25% chance Ovechkin will be held scoreless in the final 2 games of a series. Ovechkin? 41%.
