This exceptional (Irish) musician deserved so much more success than he got. I remember his album was heavily promoted by pirate radio station Radio Caroline when I was a kid. That album should have rocketed him to stardom. Wikipedia suggests that the BBC didn't give him airplay, because of his links with pirate radio. Beautiful songs, great voice. Highly underrated. I was sorry to learn he died in 2002.

His voice is so much clearer than the better known version by Marc Almond (which I'm not decrying) I just prefer this. It is more atmospheric

I must say I prefer this version to the others I've heard... The straight-forward tone evokes emotion better than more "elegant" arrangements /performances.
