  • Rock stars like Phil aren't destined to be here long. They arrive like comets & dazzle us with their excitement, drama, energy & flame & then they vanish back into the stars. He did what he came here to do. I've been listening to Lizzy since 1978 & their music's in my bloodstream now. I can't imagine what I'd have done if Lizzy hadn't been around. Phil still lives through his music & poetic lyrics. He isn't gone.

  • Heroin is a killer. So was this performance...R.I.P. Phil from Ireland...

  • It's very moving to think only 17 days later he died, aged only 36. That is way too short a lifetime, even if he did manage to leave so much great music behind for his fans, old and new. You need real presence to front a band, and he had it easily, but how much more we could have had, if only he could have avoided the alcohol and drug abuse. RIP Phil Lynott. Talented composer, player and frontman, a real musician who lit up the stage and rocked his audience.

  • I cried the night the king died ... and he's name wasn't Elvis but Phil.

  • @yb3000 - Phil would disagree with you on that .. to him, Elvis was the King .. but i agree with you .. so was Phillip

I go overboard, but hey lissen to bass sound's from 1986-2000 you will hear bass sound playing synic with the drums...

That's what I call ''no rock''!

    REST IN PEAC Philip.

  • 1949-1986*

  • Hmm. It does say Phil Lynott.

But it should say 1949 - 1986, if that's what you meant......

  • R.I.P PHILIP GODBLESS YOUR SOUL thank you for your music you tought me a hell of a lot on the bass guitar without philip or thin lizzy I wouldn't be a profesional player today and I thank you all for that you guys goodnight godbless you philip lynott R.I.P YOU DID WELL. stephen disley BSc.

  • I didn't realise Robin George had worked with Phil Lynott....wow

  • One of the coolest guys in the business... He worked with just about everybody. Anyone who didn't play with him probably wanted to.

  • Oh yes. And ihe was not Lynnot...

  • Oh yeah, we do miss this fellow, damn, what music he would have made we never get to hear.

  • It`s one thing that are wrong in this clip. Do you know what? No? It says in the end"Phil Lynnot 1951-1985". That``s completly wrong,it should have been "Phil Lynnot 1949-1986". R.I.P Phil and thank you for everything!

  • No Phil No Music... Love U My Hero now and forever xxxxx

  • Dates are wrong at the end its 1949 to 1986

  • rocking

  • damn right its 1949 xxx

  • deadly song with him & the band grand slam

  • The birth and death date at the end of this video is wrong. It's 1949-1986 not 1951-1985. Somebody obviously hadn't done their research properly.

  • I agree with you there. Either way, if this person did the research or not, here is the true document, PHIL IS GONE, AND HE IS SADLY AND DEEPLY MISSED. BLACK ROSE!!!

  • " THE KINGS CALL" is the best he ever done!!!!!!!!

  • Why did I watch this? I hate seeing Phil in that state. Sad sad sad. And the song stinks too.

  • the song is good...

  • Phil the best, soooooo hot and sexy. xxxxxx

  • Ha Ha Ha - the record company geezer fucking cracks me up, no fucking idea. No wonder the music industry is dead on its knees, and the music festival scene is dominated by bands from the kids dads era. Kiss, bon jovi, ozzy, crue all major bands again! And wait til ACDC come out on the new album. Record company exec. Well done - you killed the business arsehole.

  • Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Pete Waterman destroyed the UK music industry.

  • And kanye west destroyed it every else by going back to the good bits of the past, copying, slowign it down, then bragging about how good he is over the top of it.

People wouldn't listen to anyone who did that, but for some reason, he gets the attention haha.

  • Fucking damn straight mate!

  • Thanks for having a brain. It feels good to know that some people get what has happened to music. Trying to replace Arena Rock with Alternative Rock was a terrible business move that backfired miserably. You can hardly get 15 thousand kids together to see a new Rock band play nowadays. The interest that kids today have in Classic Rock proves that Rock music is still a viable market. Yet Record Co's did nothing to cultivate new acts in the 90's and they're still sitting on their hands today.

  • CONT'D, the shelf life for any artist in the music industry today is 2-3 years. Then, more often than not, they lose their promotion. Regardless of how successful an artist has been during that 2-3 year window. It's an asinine way to do business, but in todays made for t.v. music business, it's the way things are being done. They're thinking is shortsighted, so much so you'd swear that these pricks are taking advice from George Bush and Barack Obama....Rock n Roll needs a bailout.

  • Exactly. I'm 22 years old, and my five favorite bands all had AT LEAST one album released prior to my birth. In Lizzy's case, the band was already done. Rock and Roll music - real rock and roll music, not commercial garbage - is timeless. The sound may become dated, but the vibe - the energy of it - the honesty of the music, that is something that STAYS fresh, no matter how many years pass. Lizzy's music is gorgeous today, and it will continue to bring in new fans for years.

  • @thornwithin81 You got that right. Seen the band many years ago.

  • @thornwithin81 Only 22 I'm twice that but there is something special about a band that can cross the generations - I hav to agree with all that you have said - I listened to Lizzy when I was 22 and I listen to Lizzy now that I'm 44

  • so after all the waffle did you like the song ?

    yawn

  • i logged on in my sons name im 50 and met phil nice bloke only asked you if you liked the song . did'nt expect a load of verbal abuse .

you obviously are a very insecure peson to see any question as an attack on yourself

(i assume you will now carry on with another load of drivel aimed at me dont worry i have broad shoulders mr angry)

  • you still dont get it do you it was ME that made the comment not my son he had nothing to do with any comments made you need to calm down a bit

  • johnsmdm........Shut up you fkn idiot. Those loosers you've mentioned will be forgotten very soon. Phil Lynott is a legend and will never be forgotten.

Music like this did sell, 10s of millions of albums. Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott are worthy of mention with any great band in history.

You wish you could sign a band even half as successful as Thin Lizzy, in your dreams.

  • Shut the fuck up john whatever. Record company your ass! If you were around back then you'd know what the fuck you were talking about, fucking idiot!

  • Absolute legend. His passion is infectious, even to this day,

  • Wow that was awesome!

I was lucky enough to see Phil at the world series of rock show in 79 at cleveland stadium on the Black rose tour supporting bands that day were as follows the Scorpions first ever US appearance then Bon Scott and acdc then Journey Thin Lizzy Aerosmith and Ted Nugent closed the show all for $13 !

  • I was there too. I was like 14, people wasted everywhere not watching the bands. my first concert. Saw Lizzy blow Nazareth off the stage on this tour also.

  • No way! Bet that was fucking awesome

  • Why would I or anyone else here give a shit about what some record company whore has to say? Actually I take that back, you're probably a bored 15 year old with nothing better to do. Shame.

  • up yours

  • Hot, Sexy and damn right proud Irish, loving you always Phil. xxxxxxxxxxx R I P my only hero.

  • phil deserves to be in the rock in roll hall of fame for his influence bon jovi huey lewis guns n roses metallica there music was never promoted big time in usa vote now and lets get phil what he deserves

  • Too bad the RnRHoF is a piece of shit. Lynott will never get in, nor will Deep Purple, Priest, Bob Seger, Rush, or anyone else that was worth a damn musically. It's a goddamn shame. The RnRHoF is a joke.

  • God yes so lets put him there

  • Yeah, unless you work for the record companies, don't expect that to happen.

  • then ill get 1 wont 1 i know a few ppl in the record company. Phil WILL be front man once again.

  • I hope so.

  • @StreetMusic13 James Hetfield when Metallica got inducted into the RRHOF mentioned that it was a travesty Thin Lizzy was not inducted

  • @SatanicalEve I agree, I mean they even covered a motherfuckin lizzy song!!

  • @StreetMusic13 Too right mate, I grew up listening to Lizzy, Motorhead, Acdc, Saxon, Iron Maiden. Etc... I think a lot of the bands influences came from the Lynnard Skynnard Era. Phil gets my respect anyday b4 the likes of Oasis and the like(Pop rock).

  • actually saw thin lizzy live in albany new york for the chinatown tour. truly incredible. my friend & i sat on the stage in this small club. their stage mgr. told us "the boys like to jump around a bit. man did they! got 2 guitar picks & touched phil's shoe. felt like i was in the company of a legend. he really was. no one can replace him. lizzy should go by a different name now, not even close to the original. rip phil, you're in no pain now.

  • he lived in the linelight, no fear but the ones around him, the hero.

  • this is the worst of the 80's hard rock production. ug. Phil was a great talent!

  • music is so not lyrics

  • The lyrics might be mindless (that's merely an opinion anyway), but the music is still catchy. Besides, compared to music today, this is quite good.

  • Poor Phil. It god damn sucks how Phil died, but one thing I wish was that his final song was a real classic... this kinda sucks - sorry, but the lyrics are just mindless.

Still, he left behind so many great songs!

  • It was and still is a damn classic 1 of my favs anyway

  • my all time fav song of Phil`s, so sad wish he was here though, R I P PHIL PARIS LYNOTT.

  • Dear Phil, Thanks for all the great music. Nineteen was one of Phil's toughest and greatest last tracks. God Bless you Phil! A Friend

  • He never complaine about life ..he was a great man ..

  • Ah fuck sake. Its hard to watch him in this state.

  • my GOD ! look at his eyes, they are bloated and he opens them like twice through the entire clip......and yeah, just my opinion but this tune sucks......just like dope.

  • i believe this is actually footage that was shown on the Tube tv show. the footage is from Razzmatazz but this clip of his performance was shown on the tube as part of a trubute.

If anyone has the full clip of this song from that show that would be insane

  • Prohibition doesn't work. It didn't work with booze, and the mob flourished under it. Now billions are being spent on this stupid "war on drugs". Speaking of drugs, anyone heard the trio of junkies kicking ass on "Daddy Rolling Stone", from Johnny Thunders' great "So Alone"? (Peter Perrett's on the album, too, and some Sex Pistols; can you imagine the havoc on those sessions?) Johnny, Phil, then Steve Marriott, each taking a verse. Marriott's the only one who saw his 40th birthday.

  • Never mind the lyrics, the music rocks, think thats what Phil and the gang took very well care of, oh yeah

  • I agree with Goldenage. This is one of Phil's worst songs. I never really listen to the Lynott stuff post 1980 because it's unimiginative and Phil just sounds tired. I also just hate all that twiddly guitar stuff that people like Sykes brought to it - lacks melody of Gorham/Moore/Robertson. And yes, the Nostradamus bit of Angel Of Death is STUPID. So fear not Golden Age, you are not alone. Cheers to Phil for everything up to 1980 though!!!!

  • Lost my head for a second, should have said kill the dealers. Anyway, you'r right, its their own choise.

  • God damn down to the deepest of Hell all that dopeshit that kills all these great musicians, flush it down the toilet, you assholes that sells that crap. May you rot and burn in Hell asap..

  • They may sell it, but then just don't buy it. Don't blame some drug dealers for the loss of musicians. I agree that drug dealers should be in prison, but no one put a gun to Phil's head (or any other musician) and forced them to take drugs.

  • Angel of Death is a cool tune, but the whole Nostradamus bit is ridiculous. Phil just caught up in the dumb metal thing toward the end. Don't get me wrong though, there's some awesome songs from 81 onwards, but there's alot of crap. Compare the reviews and sales of Chinatown onwards compared to the stuff before.

  • Angel of Death is kool tune

  • Hey Blacksab - chill dude. Each to their own. I love Phil and Lizzy, but to me and my friends in Australia, we all agree that the majority of the post 1981 stuff is unimaginative, cliched, and fairly dull. Angel of Death - that just makes us laugh. I'm sorry, but lyrics like "You want it tough, I'm tough, you want it mean, I'm mean..." really are sad. Phil up to 1980 was awesome though. As roboticonion put it "genereric ass rock sound".

  • You mean "To each their own"...Anyway, fair enough, you don't like the lyrics, but I do and they make sense to me. I guess when you can't understand something you just say it's sad or it makes you laugh. Fine. I've written a few of my own songs and it's not easy to write lyrics that BOTH make sense and capture your feelings. Maybe Phil was faking it a bit at the time, but I don't think it's quite to the degree you think.

  • Wow, this is sad.... he does look terrible. The music for this isn't too bad, but jeez.... the lyrics. The last few years were really lacking the effort. You think back to songs like "Fight Or Fall" "Dear Lord" etc and you can hear a man with pride in his work. This is just dumb metal. If there's ever a case of drugs dragging your work down - it's Phil Lynott. He should have just stuck to the weed and the acid of his early years. Still - he really was THE greatest.

  • "The music for this isn't too bad, but jeez.... the lyrics"

This single is a joy, It is Lynott's 24 carat, clench- fisted farewell to the world. If you're going to die prematurely in the rock business this is how you should go.

  • Everything you've ever said is absolutely idiotic...this is the third time I've had to respond to you. This (Again) is a case where you simply aren't listening to the lyrics. What do you think Lynott is talking about in this song...maybe his own life? I imagine being 19 and Black in Ireland is a hell of a task. It about being tough and not giving in to those after you... I think so anyway. Sure he used drugs, but his lyrics never suffered...his work on Thunder and Lightning was some of his best.

  • I agree.. I always hated people who bag on someone and then ..round off the bag fest with... "Still- he really was the greatest."

  • And yes...I know that this song is a solo song...not on Thunder and Lightning...I was just generalizing.

  • phil is in a desparate state there its the worst i've ever seen him its sad i wish he was still alive damm heroin! what a loss to music, great video i wish the offical music video of this didn't get fuckin deleted off youtube it kicked ass! r.i.p phil

  • Damn i love phil but this video was just lame, what with the motorcycle and generic ass rock sound.

  • i have to say phil is in terrible shape there, thats about the worst i've seen him its a real loss

  • Phil's face looks ridiculously bloated...kinda sad. Great song though...still wish I could get an mp3 of it.

  • Phil defintely rules. about 7 days after this video, Phil collaspes in his bath, oh phil i love you.

  • Yes BRIAN DOWNEY the best drummer ever!

  • Phil rules! Love his songs, love his image, love everything he's about! Shame about that sugar blues though!

  • I wish I had an mp3 of this song.

  • if you still want the Grand Slam track Nineteen I have it. If you send me an e-mail address I can e-mail it you as an mp3

  • Great version on "Live in Ireland 1984" it is cool to see some video of Phil though.

  • The wild one, what a loss to the world of music. Rock on Phillo

  • Cool! "The man at the back... The one and only, Brian Downey on drums!"
