In Japan back in 1979, the service/freight elevators had music - DISCO MUSIC playing. I still remember Gloria Gaynor's "Anybody Wanna Party" playing in one of the service elevators I rode. Someone filmed a service elevator in the St Francis Hotel in San Francisco and it had a TV.
The likely reason that PH wasn't staying lit was because the elevator is computer-controlled, and since it was going down, it wouldn't let you press a floor that was above it until the direction changed.
Nice elevator. I've ridden on a couple of wierd elevators like that. It has the same internal beap between floors. The wierd thing is the outside and inside ding. It makes a 300A ding on the outside and a 330A on the inside after the doors open.
Yeah. Apperently, he couldn't stand it. It was a big staple in the depertment stores. The most "recent" song I knew converted to MUZAC was Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Imagine that one in MUZAC form. It sounded very weird.
@georgef551 All the music I heard on Muzak has been "normal" opposed to rendered into "elevator" music instrumentals. The coffee shop I worked had it and you could change the station to other music forms. The downtown coffee shop, however had Muzak CDs and in limited number so we got stuck with a lot of repeats. I do remember Seduction's "It Takes Two" being rendered into elevator music.

99.9% was normal here, too. It was funny, however, when they converted metal hits. :)
