  • This is coming from a whitey, but look at all those fuckin' honkies.

  • Love this song! I am so sad buddy holly died at the age of 22! :( :( He was a really good singer!!!

  • @lmart77lm Buddy was awesome and Shane did a great tribute singing this :)

  • was singt der gute Alvin? "I wish it was Yesterday"

    da ist was dran

  • Wahnsinn, bin durch Andreas Martin und davor Bernd Clüver hier gelandet und merke, ich werde einfach nicht jünger.

    Super song, oder?

  • He looks a lot older than he sounds.

  • Hat jemand die Akkordbegleitung dafür? Bitte email an poorgirl1108@aol.com!

  • Beautiful...

  • super...........I love thies song........

  • I feel like Norman Hunter

  • briiilllll

  • Slight correction to the lyrics. It's "And the same old lines going back in time tell me this is nothing new"

  • Ich finds immer wieder erstaunlich, wie viele tolle Songs Buddy Holly gewidmet wurden.

  • He is great!

  • love him he is my cuson he is so brillant

  • i love him he is my cuson he is so brillant

  • i love him he is my cuson he is so brillant

  • this weirdo had a fling with gary glitter in the 70s he was also the cunt that threw his child down the stairs when he was with liza goddard. he ia a maggot cunt a dirty bi peado

  • super song!!!

  • genialer song. immer hörenswert. großartige keyboard-passagen zu beginn.

  • absolut Geil;!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yay!! Alvin Stardust...reminds me of my childhood!!

  • Great song - loved it in the 80's and still do !!!

  • Ted Chippingtons version is better

  • sorry have to say that yes this song was written by Mike Batt but it was not about Buddy Holly, it was Mike talking about himself and a woman he was in love with going off to live/work in Australia and him missing her and thinking of her every time he saw a plane overhead and wishing she was on it coming home, and he mentions, Buddy and Paul McCartney as fellow songwriters and that he knew what they felt when they wrote some of their iconic songs.

  • the song is in NO way a remwniscnce of Buddy Holly. The song is about the loss of a loved ones and simply uses lines appropriate to the emotion from several famous singers...its like a pop quiz to find them...it just happens the title relates to one such reference

  • wow, this guy looks older than me! and i'm not wear any makeup!

  • @morgendorpher, what a silly comment, asshole.

  • Great Song i was seven years old when this was released, a wonderfil memmory

  • brilliant

  • In whose opinion danceman? It is my favourite.

  • very great

  • There is no way Alvin was ever like Elvis or Cliff.

He is Alvin n good too.

  • ? Well they're all good singers, all had teddy-boy hairstyles. Alvin and Cliff both recorded with Mike Batt in the 1980s (Alvin with this song and Cliff with Please Don't Fall In Love). Alvin is also a Christian. Also Alvin and Cliff were making great rock 'n' roll music in the early 1960s. Alvin is also a survivor. So I think the comparison's a strong one, particularly with Cliff.

  • Hi dfarmbrough, I remember when Alvin was Shane Fenton and didnt get the credit he deserved, so reinvented himself as Alvin Stardust, from where I could bring in the Gene Vincent comparison.

I prefer to look at them all as individuals doing their own thing in their own right and not be compared with others. lol

By the way I am Dennis and now live in Cardigan and I was a teenager in the Cliff years

  • I was not born when Shane was doing his thing, but rediscovered him through record collecting - he and his band were really good quality and ought to have been up there with Cliff, Marty Wilde and Billy Fury. The songs they played are still performed today by groups like The Rapiers.

  • Shane did not get the publicity and I cant recall him ever appearing on Oh Boy, 6/5 Special, Thank Your Lucky Stars to promote him, though was big on the dance hall circuit. You mentioned The Rapiers, saw them at Skeggy sometime back and were doing Buddy Holly numbers, Brilliant, we tried to book them but were too expensive, are they still around

  • Yes The Rapiers are still around. I used to see them for free at the Three Crowns at Edmonton every Sunday night. I couldn't believe so classy an act was performing at such a dive. There were fights caused by the teddy boys most nights.

I think you're right about Shane's lack of TV exposure. I wasn't about at the time, but I have never seen archive footage of him performing IIRC

  • He was like Elvis in the 70s and in the

80s he got more like Clif Richard!!!

  • Beautiful song ! I saw Alvin in Bilzen on 14th August 2009. He has a real good voice and his show was just great ! Hope to see him perform again one day !

  • ha ha I saw ACDC on august 14th

  • thks for the video post...brings back memories :)

  • Best bSong!

  • Die Handschrift von Mike Batt ist bei diesem Song unverkennbar....

    .

  • is he safe sitting on that balcony ?...he could fall off

  • find ich schon seit 25 Jahren geil !!!!

  • isn't this guy shane fenton? and graham fenton's cousin or something?

  • Yes he is Shane Fenton. I don't think he's related to Graham Fenton of Matchbox and The Hellraisers, because Shane Fenton was just Alvin's first stage name, his real name is Bernard Jewry

  • didn't know, thanks.

  • No problem. I don't know why someone voted you down for your comment. It'd be great if they were cousins!

  • poor devil looks like he had the same public relations manager as Daniel O Donnell!

  • AMAZING SONG!!

    GREAT SINGER

  • The chorus is fantastic, lovely wee melody and

poignant lyrics. But the rest of the song is complete guff, fuck it must have been someone

different who penned the verses than wrote the

chorus? And who the fuck are all those cretins brandishing lighters? Surely they must have been led in at gunpoint

  • great song Thanks for the video post.

  • yea great song

  • OMG this video is soooo cheesy. Love the song though ;)

  • This got to be the best tribute to Buddy Holly. Thanks for the video post.

  • Class

  • Uff... yeah. The video first made me feel like I have to hate the song... but still the audio part counts and this one is great.

  • This is really nice.

  • he's a great artist.inspired me to sing.check out gypwin

  • this is agreat song if i say so myself and hes a great person

  • this song make me feel better...60-70-80's music

  • makes me feel old...

  • Mike Batt und Alvin Starsust haben fast die gleiche Stimme, wie ich finde.

  • Beautiful song. Absolute classic imo.

  • Ok Duckie lol.

    No Stop mesing about.

  • ahhh the memories... so luv this song, takes me back to when i was at school :-)

  • great song

  • So beautifull song.. I oll moust cry..

  • Great song. :D

  • a wonderful song and an wonderful memorie of Buddy

  • Yes.

  • Thank you for uploading..

Remembering of my childhood days..I cry right now..

Please upload the other videoclip of this song..

  • he sounds better than mike batt .

  • even so, Mike Batt is a great song writer, too bad we in the US shunned his music. Wombles or not Wombles

  • To me the two 'almost' sound about even especially during the chorus. It's a pity though that the Wombles did overshadow Mike's career as a singer/songwriter.

  • Alvin is the best, and I don't need to hear anyone else

  • Mike Batt wrote this and sung his own version ...but i prefer alvins .

  • @mark0776829 shut up please

  • Thanks for posting. I love that song so much!

    From me 5*

  • alvin sings it the best, great song

  • This is a great song, Alvin sings really well.

  • I prefer Ted Chippington's version better...

  • love this song long time without hearing it means even more now

  • If you still here HotPoker? I'm sure Alvin doesn't require you to CD or perm! The joke I made somewhere here was on myself wearing several different colours when going to a Boogie Nights performance, rather than all black - Too intense

  • I totally agree.

Its one of the worst songs ever written.

    Absolutely dire.

But if you like it that s cool.

Its just a mater of opinion and taste.

  • Hotpoker, there must be a horrible taste in your mouth, because you are talking shit.

  • HA HA HA.

Bet you also love Matthew Wilder and Chris De Burgh!

Whenever there is like a TV show about the worst songs ever this tune always gets a mention.

  • What would you know about taste, when you like Lip Up Fatty by Bad Manners, that is the worst song ever written.

  • Aw you caught me out.

Ok so I'm converted to Alvin and I now love his blend of smooth pop.

Do I need to do anything apart from cross dressing and perming my hair to prove my loyalty?

  • You don't have to prove anything, just fuck off.

  • what a crude reply devoid of wit.

I will but only so I don't have to listen that terrible tune every time I come to this page.

    Enjoy

  • Well, in your case wit is a lot to be desired.

  • so soo---ooorry but I can't reply as I have fxxxed off.

  • You should have known you can't win, this proves your mentality.

  • You mean you sit through those programmes! can't say I've ever noticed Alvin on them mind LOL. and The Best Ofs are not that much better!

  • thx for posting the text

  • I remember I love this, we heard this often over the years its very emotional. lots of Alvin songs I hadnot heard, good songs too

  • Okay Alvin, my rocking ruler! thanks for a sad ballad. Lots of us love it

  • pfp217 crawl back under your stone if you dont like it dont watch it you fucking tosser

  • Pfp217, I want to hear more of your silly comments, because this song is so compelling, you just can't keep away. As the saying goes, jealously is a compliment.

  • This song is a mark of respect. Pfp217, I think what comes from your arse is the best part of you gone.

  • what a lovley moving song ,,,why dont you just listen to the words ,,then you might just understand ,,,,or maybe not ,,,sighhhh

  • Tõnis Erilaid mängis seda 23 aasta eest Soovisaates :)

  • Although I'd heard this song since many years ago, I have not watched the MTV. Anyhow, well done Alvin.

  • I can't imagine what you people are on!

  • Now look 'ere mate, be respectful! Buddy will be a'reeling and a'rocking to lots of Alvin songs. This one one has a sad subject yes, but was and is much requested

  • Oh Jesus, how is Buddy holly's name associated with this garbage! I'm sure he's reeling over in his grave right now.

  • as we say in Ireland "yer arse" its a lovely song with sad chords

  • Yeah, it's sad Buddy Holly's name is associated to this garbage. I think it came from my arse.

  • why the fuck did you listen to it then?

  • If you had any sense and listened instead of farting, you could work out what this song is about. Instead you choose to make unqualified statements. If you don't like it, don't listen to it you fucking moron!

  • They're perfectly qualified. This is worse than generic muzak. I stand by what I said, Buddy Holly is rolling over in his grave. For christ sake lets take our first name from a chipmunk and our last from David Bowie's alter ego and then title our songs after legends. Yeah, you people have wonderful taste! Hey I just heard Wayne Newton has a new one comin out, SHEEP!

  • Lovely song and so well sung by Alvin. Beautiful! Has anyone spotted that other "dust" that is casting a little shadow near Alvin.
