There have been 500 studies on the dangers of high voltage power lines. Very, very few found any sort of link. The ones that did find a link, were unable to determine causality, and the the danger increase they observed was very small.
Now, if you're thinking "even a small risk is too much", you're not thinking. 500 studies, almost all of which found nothing. If I did 500 studies on ANYTHING, you'd find a few with positive results. They've tried to PROVE it, and they CAN'T. Paranoia!!
We, the adults, have an obligation to protect children and teach them how to protect themselves. What better lesson to get them involved in a small way, to see how adults can discuss a serious issue in a civilized matter and how to challenge authority.
As far as scaring children I would argue that this is no different than admonishing your grandson to be aware of talking to strangers. Would this admonishment cause your grandson to be scared of every stranger?
I don't know if your grandson was present during that meeting but I would argue that in both instances children were the focus of this important point because it is all about children.
At your comments during your presentation before the Clark County Commissioners you express concern about the health of your grandson, should the line be built close to your home which will compel you to move. Aren't you focusing on a child to make your point as well? (cont. 3 more)
@ckbrant What is reminiscent of Goldwater campaign is that he failed to see that his extremist views would divide his party and insure a victory for Johnson. It is not too late for you to become a true activist for our children. You must first moderate your thinking--children's health before Weyerhaeuser's trees! The citizens activist groups do not need a dividing voice; they need your voice united with them in protest that ALL persons are entitled to LIFE and liberty under the 14th Amendment
@ckbrant Regardless of where one stands in regard to which option is ultimately chosen, the health and well-being of our children and families must be taken into account. Even children this young can understand (and worry about) the consequences of living near a 500kv line.
Many thanks to the children, Rosalie and Nichole for the songwriting and performance and those that brought this wonderful performance together!
Thanks too, to Another Way BPA (NoWayBPA.com) for holding monthly scheduled public meetings open to the communities of Clark and Cowlitz counties where homeowners and property owners have an avenue to have their voice heard.
"Remember, the children are counting on you..." There is not one sensible reason for jeopardizing the children of Clark County---not their health, and not their homes and futures. The GREY LINE option is the only solution. Keep these dangerous, unsightly lines AWAY from our homes. Thank you, children. You did a beautiful job of making a very important point.
The children singing, live near the proposed lines in Vancouver, Washington that would be directly impacted by the BPA I-5 corridor 500kv line proposal.
BPA is also planning to build these dangerous lines over 3 schools and daycare centers
in highly populated areas.
This is a perfect example of federal government's abuse of the people.
They are extremely concerned about fish but people mean nothing.

the children along your 'grey' route aren't important? Smokescreen to divide-exactly what you have attempted to do. You people have no conscience.

I have a problem with scaring children, and that's what your propaganda will do. Give the poor kids nightmares, real thoughtful.

Reminiscent of the Johnson and Goldwater campaign, 1964- Propagandizing with children, sad.
