The tiller extension goes on the windward rack, then I kneel over it with my bum on the extension, so I can steer by moving my bum and I have two hands for a quick drop. It sounds a bit precarious, but it is very positive. You kneel with the windward leg bent and the leeward leg straight.
It is also important to let the main fully out - steer dead down-wind - and pull the kite sheet in hard before dropping the kite (so it pulls the main in behind the kite and prevents it getting blown forward into the water).
ive been sailing my 420 for a season now nd im looking at moving to single hander skiffs- do u recon i wud survive on a mps? :)
