well then why wouldn't people rather do everything in 3ds max?? i find its way easier and faster to model everything in 3ds max. its seems like its allot of steps just to create a simple room with a door in UDK. when i could do it with 3ds max in a matter of seconds. i wanna ask you. do you think its ok for me to make a level entirely in 3ds max??
@TheKSProduction Not everyone can afford or has accessto 3dsmax or maya. Yes, it is perfectly fine to create an entire level in 3d app and then export it to Maya. It all depends on your workflow.
@TheKSProduction I personally like to create separate objects and then load them up in the editor. When you create a level in 3ds max and you want to make an adjustment later on, you'd have to go back to the 3ds max file and edit it, export it, and import it again. I hope this explains why people use the editor for putting together levels. : )
Btw. would like to see a tutorial of how to use textures from like. Gears of war, Mirrors edge. or just simply how to use the stuff from other games that uses the Unreal3 engine.
@AddictableGames You'd need the game files from those games, search some forums for tutorials on how to import those models into UDK. Might not be possible though.
There has GOT to be an easier way than to click build any time you do anything with a brush or scale anything!

can i use UDK for other game types such as RTS or 3d Person action, not only FPS?
If yes, then is this process hard to achieve? (to create a 3d person view for example)
Thanks !

@WorldofLevelDesign yes but there are free modelling programs too, 3ds max was just an example.

question....couldn't i just make an entire level using 3ds max?? then just import that into udk for the map??? or is there some problems with that.
TheKSProduction 1 year ago
@TheKSProduction Sure. Just make sure that it isn't one single model that you import to UDK, that it is broken into modular chunks.

@WorldofLevelDesign What's the advantage of having it broken down into "chunks"?
