Very nice. I have the original 45 rpm record, and the B side is an instrumental version. I didn't know it was available in stereo. I guess that's because I couldn't afford albums back then. I paid for records with my school lunch and transportation money.
Very nice work on the remix. It is a very haunting song and it is very different than any song I've ever heard. It's also always been one of my favorites.
Great song from '63. I had this on a 45. The "B" side was just the music, no words. Very different for the flip side ! Great job on your part for mixing it like this. Thanks much...........
Thanks for the posting. Yes, this is the original version with the organ music. This is the one that was played on the radio when it was a hit. Great song!!
@Jibjub80... To answer your questions, the organ that's heard at 0:46 (and throughout the rest of the song) is from the original mono version, while most of the rest of the song is the original stereo version. The original stereo version never included the organ. The organ was only heard on the original mono version. Thus, I mixed the two. I also extended the intro and created a completely new ending using both versions of the original song.
This is a great song and the audio is excellent - thanks for your effort in improving the quality and sharing it.
I was in college when this was popular. At juke box dances, the dance floor was filled every time this played. No one worried about "the story" or tried to make any deep or dark interpretations - it was just a good song with a haunting sound that stuck in your head and was very danceable.
this song was on a compilation two tape..production in the late 80's called supergirls. it featured this song, jonny agel, my boyfriends back , my guy and other great girl groups songs.
A very nice effort. I enjoyed it very much. "Haunting"; sure is a word I bump into; a lot, when people who love this song talk about it. Myself, I always thought this song was about a girl who sees here baby/boyfriend with another girl, and is heart broken. However; the "other" interpretations only add more mystique and legend to a perfect song. Thank you. Again I enjoyed it.
Wow. This is one of my all-time favorite sixties songs. And thanks for the sound clean-up. Other versions of this song on youtube are of a very poor quality. Great job.
Thanks for the kind words. I've always been disappointed at how noisy the mono version is while the stereo version (without the organ) sounds decent. I decided to mix the two and clean it all up, and I'm glad I did. It makes an awesome song that much more fun to listen to.

I really am disappointed in some of the stereo versions I've heard of this song, but this remix sounds very good. Thanks for your efforts.

yeah - I agree - great job mixing this one. The old mono version was so awesome, and this one is true to that one.

I usually cringe when people "remix" a classic but, nice job.

The vocals seem much clearer than on my old single from all those years ago. This version could possibly be a hit if rereleased.
I bought their album on import to the UK from the USA, and have to say it was pretty awful, the only decent track being the title one.
I found that quite a few soul one hit wonder groups also made one grotty album before fading into oblivion. I wonder why.

Were the instruments at 0.45- 0.46 added to this "remix" and absent from the original version?????

@trilogypart3 Dude, I just heard this song for the first time today on an AM station. It kills me. When I
started searching for the song on you tube I thought damn. I know I heard an organ. Yours is the only
one I listened to that had the organ part. Props to you. Good move. I know to trust my ears. Thanks

@mtnrun77 right. in 1963 you and your friends were asking "is it a GAY issue?". sure you were.
and how you arrive at "a woman's girlfriend" in other than a normal sense from these lyrics is just weird.

Was 13 in '63 and, too many years later, I still think this is a very unique song. Very well done. Thank you.

@rvh430 ...yeah, I was there in that time also
...alls I know is those words, "...see your baby with another girl..." and the music, fit my melancholy real good
...roses and thorns---ah, the beauty and the pain---they won't tell your secret
...let your hair hang down
Classic! Thanks for post trilogypart3. The time you invested in this is quite evident.
