@CoyKiyote It came out in May 2010, discontinued by Verizon in July 2010 due to poor sales, It was brought back to verizon in September 2011 as a basic phone rather than a smartphone but all the key features seen in the video (Ex, The drag and drop to "The Spot") were removed. I have the Feature phone version of the Kin Two, called the KIN TWOm (M stands for modified) and its still awesome, but sadly as of June 2011 they are all sold out and only avaliable via special order from verizon.
ok i want an honest answer here. people think that guy is taking pics of his dick? hes taking a pic of his chest, seeing as he lifted up his shirt. also whats up with the lady at 0:08 with her hand up in the camera?
First I have to say the song is amazing, second I have to say it makes you feel the couple is already in a relationship and he is not even taking a picture of his penis which he could if he wants, WTF? do people in the US lives in the dark ages or what?
Yeah, that borders on pornography... if you are an insane jesusfreak/muslim who blindfolds him/herself when taking a bath to avoid seeing naughty parts. That was what the fuzz was about?! Are there still sane people left in media?
love this song. I thought it was a pretty powerful 60 second commercial. not just selling a (discontinued) phone, but a "lifestyle". If they coulda gotten the Kin just a little bit more ironed out (like including a calendar, hello!) and maybe a little more full-featured, I would have totally considered one. Here's hoping the Kin team puts some goodies into the new Windows Mobile 7 phones like they said.
Microsoft, stop making crappy stuff and stick to what you do best. Which is.....ah....mmmm...you know that thing....uhmmmm....well.....hmmmm.
Changing subject. Why in all their advertisement they insist in putting people from every shade under the sun? Yes, I get it, your products are for everyone....but why do you have to do reject commercials of the United Colors of Benetton ?
Microsoft, stop making crappy stuff and stick to what you do best. Which is.....ah....mmmm...you know that thing....uhmmmm....well.....hmmmm.
Changing subject. Why in all their advertisement they insist in putting every race in existance? Yes, I get it, your products are for everyone....but why do you have to do reject commercials of the United Colors of Benetton ?
I'm kind of offended that Microsoft thought that it was appropriate to release an ad that sense the messages I'm seeing in this ad. Children who see this commercial could easily get the impression that it's somehow okay to be a hipster; I'm no prude, but I know obscenity when I see it, and this fits the bill.
One commercial shows someone who is proving whether or not you can be more connected to an Ex online than in real life. Wtf. Way to go on being the darkness throwing company microsoft....
What really bothers me is that if the criticism was really that bad, then they could take out the 1-3 second shot and everything would be fine. I'm sure they had leftover footage to meet the 1:00 mark.
This commercial is soooo fucking hipster. I mean damn, look at the PBR tall boys, urry masks, retarded band no one's heard of, and the random group hugs.
Yet another ad devoted to the hipster/nihilist subculture. People, stop paying attention to these idiots and if we are lucky it will die out. It seems that every generation has its subculture. The 1950s had the Beats, the 60's had the hippies. The 70's had disco, the 80's and 90's had punk. But the difference between all those groups and this one is that those groups actually stood for something.
@TheBashIT Oh that's insane!!!!!!!! Not only does this have nothing to do with the video YOU are commenting on you sound like an idiotic nut-job! Seriously. He's on the internet, so he has to be looking at porn! Oh how dare he look at pictures of children! (Even though they're not, it's an ad and those are the standard pictures) They are probably his! Oh!!!!!! Reading and watching movies! how could he! Using a touch screen! Oh! Boo-hoo! Toothbrush ads....... c'mon!
Hah, this is dumb. "Controversial Kin Ad" my ass, it's more like "Err, we guess someone out there may be a tight ass and be offended mildly by this ad, so we're going to post it as such cause it's a slow news day at... Consumer Reports." Christ, give me a fucking break. If you're bothered by this please put your head back up your ass where it belongs and leave the young people alone.
@netandful My IPHONE MUSICID app tells me the song is "Home" from the album "Up from Below" by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. Too bad MS doesn't have programmers all over the world writing fun little apps for their phones!
@dartdata nooneknowsnothing It uses the Zune interface which shows every thing about the songs. See it. Then comment. It is much superior music devie. it is after 4 iPdeaths.
Americans are Prudes. Everyone needs to loosen up and cut it out with the political correctness. Ads like this being pulled is going to kill the economy and the country. Having a fun time doesn't always lead to doing inappropriate things.
Being offended by this is ridiculous. Naughty? Please. If that's naughty, then take girls, and guy beach commercials off air PERIOD. I'd understand if the girl did it, but the guy? So, a guy can't walk at the beach with no shirt on? I think one can. Even if the girl did it it would still be with a bra on, so this shit is plain stupid. Whomever thought this was offensive is simply retarded.
haha, Why did they pull this ad? I thought it was humorous. I know plenty of guys that would do what he did on a normal basis. Stupid over-protective FCC. Just let us have a little bit of fun :p
If you look at where the flash is it looks as if he's taking a picture of his belly button, which is silly which explains why he laughs a little. Sexting my ass.
Well, this pretty much sums up the demise of Microsoft. From now on when I think of Microsoft, I am going to think of two guys kissing. Makes me want to barf!
I considered buying this phone as it looked like it was made for people with a sense of humor and having fun. Now, that MS has withdrawn the ad, I realize that this phone is just for tight-asses. I'll buy a Nexus.
"...with an ad that we think comes uncomfortably close to encouraging sexting--that is sending nude photos via cell phone."
Frankly I think your viewpoint comes uncomfortably close to nonsensical. Perhaps cell phones with cameras should be banned for anyone under 18, or better yet, ban digital cameras in general. While we're at it, lets segregate boys and girls in all public schools from kindergarten through college. Let's ban adolescence too, since it leads to sex and promiscuity.
A photo of a man's torso is not an indecent image, the people depicted aren't children, and consenting adults have a perfect right to share pictures of their own bodies with other consenting adults if they want to.
Get out, consumererports. You're not only making a a mountain out of a molehill, but you had to build the molehill by hand to begin with.
When I passed by the Microsoft store in Scottsdale, I was embarrassed for the employees, as a cheerleader (manager) was trying to get the MS workers to mimic the Apple Store sales folks. The silly antics were being done right in front of the general public. No creativity whatsoever, and it was really sad...
Far greater things to be worried about in the world of cell phones...how about we start with censorship, monopolies and price gouging. Then worry about the man boobs.
I don't really see what the issue is, like most Microsoft ads, it's not edge or controversial and in fact it's boring and the complete opposite of cool. Mind you that is how I'd describe the Kin too. Microsoft just doesn't get it and they only reason they're around is their big ass pile of money from their desktop monopoly. Most everything else has been a failure. This will be no different.
So he takes a photo of his fat chest, so what?! Since when are jiggly man tits explicit?? Now if the girl did it, maybe then there would be a problem.
OH NO!! People can take pictures of their body parts and send them to other people!! OH NO!! ALL IS LOST!! IT'S THE END TIMES!! THIS WILL DESTROY OUR ENTIRE NATION!!
Fucking seriously people, grow the fuck up. Yes, you can take pictures of yourself and send them. Learn to live with it.
Whatever the failures of the hardware and software, the social failure of being this uptight about sex is far more insidious. The tremendous pressure around sexual mores is unnecessary and just drives everyone - young people in particular - crazy.
I can't believe anyone thinks this promotes "sexting", the guy just took a picture under his shirt, a silly thing to do. If your kid sees this and decides to "sext" then don't let them watch any nature shows that show animals mating or else they will end up pregnant.
This commercial actually featured an interracial couple, which is pretty rare believe it or not. The song is catchy and everyone looks like they are having fun.
Dumb ad, but nothing worth crying over. I don't view this as some crisis regarding our values in a society - I view this as an ad pointing out you can take pictures...of your man tits if you really wish to. Because of course - THAT is what I'm going to take pictures of. Who cares about man chest? It's perfectly legal to jog down the street shirtless if you're male - so why be ashamed, appalled, or offended?
You're kidding, CR, right? Right? Please tell me you're kidding. You aren't kidding. You can't even see the joke in a male taking a photo of his chest and sending it to a girl, instead of the other way around? I have this book about eating babies I want to show you...
To me this just screams "Sexting is funn!!! everybody join in!!" but dang whats up with that old ass lady about to kiss that guy half her age!!! im not judging but wtf!!
More retarded garbage coming from Microsoft. Even if this video made sense it wouldn't compel any reasonably sane person to buy their craptastic phone.
What is so uncomfortable with people sending their nude photos using a phone? Since when is it your business? Let people do what the fuck they want and stay away.
wow, taking photos of body-parts and sending them around. that's sooo evil.
i just can't decide which is more embarassing - being such douchebags and removing those harmless 5 seconds or trying and failing to be "hip" in the first place. just replace the man boobs with a happy-slapping-video. that could even attract the x-box audience. and rename that goddamn x-box into something more decent, while you're at it.
LOL what in the world made them think that they could get away with this? Especial with all the Tiger Woods stuff going on right now. Its not even a good ad.
Good thing Microsoft has removed the bit of this ad where the guy takes a photo under his shirt. "Sexting" is a real and present problem and doesn't need to be advertised by a major global corporation.
They even have a black guy and a blonde girl kissing towards the end. Political correct hipster bullshit. Always pushing the mixing of races, every chance.
Too sexy! Did u see the man stick the Kin up his shirt? Pictures of a lady's boob???? This is NOT RIGHT! (seektime:30&makelink)Watch the 30-second mark!
"Kin" is an odd name for a phone anyway. This add is just creepy. Microsoft needs to accept the fact that they will never be "hip", they need to stop trying.
Microsoft looks ridiculous when it tries to be hip ("I'm a PC") like Apple. This creative is worse: pandering.
"Oh look, we're Microsoft, we're so 2005 in our understanding of consumer technology. We're so hip. This is way better than the "I'm a PC" campaign we did that just buried Apple. Last night the senior product manager went on 4chan and got a great idea for a creative campaign."
I bet that's how the Microsoft marketing clowns think.
MS is much more natural, Apple has the image of stuck up elitism. This add is just about group of people spending time together, I don't see anything bad about it, it sure fits MS better than Apple, because as weird as it is Microsoft is now the friendlier and less corporationy company out of the two
@versafan That comment was fail on all grounds as you say it. Your thought process is, well, stupid. The ad isn't even bad and this is likely to catch on. This is not the phone for me, but am willing to bet others will like it.
so when you go swimming and there is guys with no shirts on it's ......what rape? Get over your selfs

This will be no different.

amazing how MS' ad bureau - most likely with the interference of MS - just keeps giving birth to failure after failure

So he takes a photo of his fat chest, so what?! Since when are jiggly man tits explicit?? Now if the girl did it, maybe then there would be a problem.

Americans are so prudish! Aren't they supposed to be land of the free? Why do they get all ashamed about the human body?
stupidjunk978 1 year ago

I don't see anything wrong with this ad. There's nothing creepy in here.

Whatever the failures of the hardware and software, the social failure of being this uptight about sex is far more insidious. The tremendous pressure around sexual mores is unnecessary and just drives everyone - young people in particular - crazy.
liquiddark 1 year ago

Its like a hipster doofus land full of fail and hats.

Even if this video made sense it wouldn't compel any reasonably sane person to buy their craptastic phone.
baronbloodbath 1 year ago
What is so uncomfortable with people sending their nude photos using a phone? Since when is it your business? Let people do what the fuck they want and stay away.

wow, taking photos of body-parts and sending them around. that's sooo evil.
i just can't decide which is more embarassing - being such douchebags and removing those harmless 5 seconds or trying and failing to be "hip" in the first place. just replace the man boobs with a happy-slapping-video. that could even attract the x-box audience. and rename that goddamn x-box into something more decent, while you're at it.

It's not the end of the world, but IMHO, it is inappropriately suggestive.
MacSmiley 1 year ago
LOL what in the world made them think that they could get away with this? Especial with all the Tiger Woods stuff going on right now. Its not even a good ad.

Fun video...maybe they pulled it because a black person and a white person almost kiss in it... almost.

Good thing Microsoft has removed the bit of this ad where the guy takes a photo under his shirt. "Sexting" is a real and present problem and doesn't need to be advertised by a major global corporation.

Too sexy! Did u see the man stick the Kin up his shirt? Pictures of a lady's boob???? This is NOT RIGHT! (seektime:30&makelink)Watch the 30-second mark!

"Kin" is an odd name for a phone anyway. This add is just creepy. Microsoft needs to accept the fact that they will never be "hip", they need to stop trying.

whats the name of this song?
davisantos111 1 year ago
Microsoft looks ridiculous when it tries to be hip ("I'm a PC") like Apple. This creative is worse: pandering.
"Oh look, we're Microsoft, we're so 2005 in our understanding of consumer technology. We're so hip. This is way better than the "I'm a PC" campaign we did that just buried Apple. Last night the senior product manager went on 4chan and got a great idea for a creative campaign."
I bet that's how the Microsoft marketing clowns think.
Fail on all grounds!
versafan 1 year ago
@versafan
MS is much more natural, Apple has the image of stuck up elitism. This add is just about group of people spending time together, I don't see anything bad about it, it sure fits MS better than Apple, because as weird as it is Microsoft is now the friendlier and less corporationy company out of the two
AdrianWerner 1 year ago
@versafan That comment was fail on all grounds as you say it. Your thought process is, well, stupid. The ad isn't even bad and this is likely to catch on. This is not the phone for me, but am willing to bet others will like it.
