What people don't realize is the Saturn isn't actually emulating these games. They are actually ports of the games to the Saturn, with subtle differences. Although, you would think that since they went to the trouble of porting the games, they would've given them a facelift.
This game should have never been released for the GBA, sorry. Maybe for a portable system like the Sega Game Gear Gemini. I miss Sega's video game systems :(
sonic mega collection is major shit compared to this, I can't believe you actually have to unlock the lock-on games, yeah mega collection had a few extra games(shit games) but I don't see a reason why they couldn't have used the saturn version of sonic 3d blast
@ACombineOfficer Ah, sorry about that I meant to hit cancel but I meant to comment on how I accidentally 1-upped a comment from my other account but I found it was unnesscessary
@drunkensailor112 oh shit, it's on Sega Saturn- nevermind.... it probably would fit (not with the rest of them on there, maybe sonic CD and ONE cart game) if it was dream cast they could have....
Why the hell did'nt Sega add the updated spin dash feature to Sonic 1 on the "Sonic Mega Collection" version of Sonic 1 for the GCN, XBOX, & PS2 and on the "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" version of Sonic 1 for the PS3 & XBOX 360 after adding it here to the Sonic Jam version of it for the Saturn from 1997?. it's annoying as hell playing Sonic 1 without the capability of using the spin dash feature even after 18+ years. why the hell would'nt they add it in future re-releases of the game?.
All these compilations are based on an emulator developed by Backbone Entertainment. Sega has no real involvement in these titles beyond providing the ROMs and publishing the thing.
Sonic Mega Collection/Sonic Gems Collection is a similiar concept, but this was handled by Sega themselves.
Sonic Jam, meanwhile, is built from the ground up to utilise the Saturn hardware. Since they started from scratch, it allowed them to add features like the Spin Dash and different difficulties.
I Find it Interesting in This Compilation That Sega Still Managed to Keep The Castle of Illusion Ad on The Back of Sonic 1's US Manual. Same With World of Illusion on the Back of Sonic 2's US Manual.
I wonder if Sega added the spin dash to the Jam version because they weren't able to create it for the 1991 version, because they didn't have the programing that was later used in making sonic 2 and the later on games? remember sonic was intended to be fast, so that's my guess.
There are some subtle graphical enhancements and the audio is much cleaner sounding. These are ports to the Saturn as opposed to emulation like in the newer compilations.
Well, its pretty rare these days to get one cheaper than 50 smackers, but everyone in a while if you keep your eyes out, you can snag one for a low price.
Or low ball the bids if the circumstances are in your favor.
lol, I agree. I love the Japanese Manual! So full of life. The English one is black and white and so boring. The sketch artwork is also entertaining in the Japanese version.
@DerfsonicGaming You think the US manual is boring? The PAL version's manual is far worse! Not only that, but the game itself is slow and music sounds like crap. And i so happen to live in the UK. :(
Atleast i have Sonic Jam! It uses the better version. :D
@MeleeSonic3200 I think Sonic 1 is one of the games without region protection, so you should be able to play the UK Sonic on a US Genesis with the game and music at full speed. It's possible to mod the system with a 50-60 Hz switch, as well, if so inclined
How does sfx is different? Still gotta like those explosion sounds ( 9:06 ).

Why did they never have the invisible platforms on Act 2 in any of the other versions?!? I always hated not having them!

They were planing on 'Normal' difficulty. 'Original' is the equivalent of 'Hard' in Sonic Jam.

whats lock on mode?
DoitForTheLolz1 2 years ago
You can connect the sonic and knuckles cartridge to one of those 3 sonic games to get new games, or whatever.
Sonic 1 with knuckles - blue sphere game.
Sonic 2 with knuckles - lets you play as knuckles in sonic 2.
Sonic 3 with knuckles - lets you play through both games with 1 character.

Lower resolution on the GBA version would put any 2d game at a huge, and usually impossible disadvantage.

That doesn't excuse how badly the GBA remake plays.

Yeah, same here!
I just got my copy off Sonic jam yesterday off ebay.
There aren't many that get posted though, so they're usually pretty expensive.
About 50 to 60 dollars usually.
