Splendid! "God Save the Queen" is one of my favorite national anthems of the world along with ours, "The Star-Spangled Banner." Thanks for uploading! Greetings from "the land of the free and the home of the brave" that is the United States of America!
The last study that was done it was at 45% to deny that they don't find it relevant is to do them a great disservice , as to the hearing impaired i know some who can sign GSTQ , they took the time to learn it but that was the their choice and also i know some who dont sign GDNZ but its up to each individual (if they choose) to make it relevant to them because its a part of our culture .
now thats not to say some things need not to change, but! removing the head of state and acting head of state - (although functions as a full head of state) is not one of them.
nor necessary , the Queen is constitutionally New Zealander by virtue of being sovereign and last time i looked Sir Satyanand was or you insinuating he's not kiwi enough?
I'm not sure what this was in response to. Your statement concedes the Queen isn't a New Zealander. HM wouldn't meet the requirements of the Citizenship Act other Brits are required to. Sir Anand certainly is a NZer though.
Because it's irrelevant, never played save for a few occasions, no-one knows how to sign it, historically anti-Catholic, and also Britain's national anthem. It represents was New Zealand once was, instead of what New Zealand is. It fundamentally goes against any sense of New Zealand nationhood.
No i mean a kiwi anthem that was promulgated in 1977 which at that moment it ceased being British and was made kiwi . Ah yes leave it to tvnz to take an unbiased (insert sarcasm here) survey which is probably as creditable as a seriocomical nzherald one .
and the poll was taken in 2002 things change as i'm well aware of (it could be up it could be down who knows) BUT! if they'ed asked "does waitangi have any relevance in your life" im sure you'ed get the same results , just because it has no relevance to you (meaning who evers reading this) doesnt mean its not important , one places importence in it (if they so choose).
Oh, so you're denying the monarchy's history now? It's entirely Kiwi because we made it so?
Also, TVNZ's polls are the only polls to show 66% of NZers support the monarchy. Are they wrong as well? Or are the polls by NZ Herald / Research NZ showing 48% of people support the monarchy more accurate?
No im just acknowledging those facets of the monarchy that have either been legislated or promulgated as as being kiwi , as for the polls i only trust government ones as far as i know there hasnt been one yet . but they are um they give an idea as to where it might be at.
Yes but it doesn't change the history of the song, which is anti-Catholic. It comes from the Jacobite uprising post James II and the Glorious Revolution. Just like the Act of Settlement (also part of our law) it's a discriminatory symbol of bygone era.
Fair enough on the referendum. I take it you support one then?
yea it kinda does , when it was promulgated it was promulgated as a Traditinal New Zealander anthem which since i was a wee laddy i assumed it was to stress unity and loyalty to the crown (state). i mean if the government promulgate something with out realising the significance behind it what hope do we all have.
as for the referenda oh umm yes and no ,yes because what ever the out come as long as its fair i could live with it also it would make us monarchist (if we won) review why and reaffirm why we believe in the monarchy and No because if we win (monarchists) it will turn a republican yell into a scream and i dont think my head could take it. :s
Because if you're a British resident, immigrating to New Zealand, you have to live here for 5 years before becoming a citizen. The Queen doesn't meet that requirement, despite being above the law, hence isn't a citizen in the same way that you, me and Sir Anand are.
but wernt these rules written well after she became queen? and also i do agree with you she should live here for five years to get it and that be AWESOME!!!.
They were indeed, but only because the British Government decided to make being a "British subject" (which was still on NZ passports until '77) meaningless. Nonetheless, my point stands.
I'm sure the Queen would like to retire to NZ. We're very popular with British migrants - most of the ones I know tell me they migrated precisely to get away from the trappings of Britain's class system - represented by the monarchy.
Nonsense. If the monarchy has relevance in New Zealand if you claim it does, it must carry with it all its history and traditions and everything that goes with that. Otherwise it is irrelevant. Which one is it?
@holdenrepublic The current anthem is still a discriminatory theocratic carryover from the original "God Save the King." The references to God should be excised for a nonreligious nation.
@nzrepublicmovement No we tolerate it just like we tolerate it in God defend New Zealand , unlike republicanism which leaves no room for tolerance and mutual coexistence.(and it would appear from your endorsement of the previous members statement that theres no room for the religious in your republic)
@RtHonDan4whoresnorth Dan, the institution you support actively discriminates against Catholics. God Save the Queen contains verses which are specifically anti-Catholic. Ever heard of the glorious revolution?
As for republicanism, I can safely say our membership refutes your claim. We've got ex-ministers and priests as members... hardly intolerant of religion. Also, secularism is not atheism.
@nzrepublicmovement as we stated before god save the queen was promulgated as a Traditional New Zealander anthem what your stating is for the british GSTQ , as for your other statement a lot of secular nations have religious connotations in their anthems not to mention the numeral of coat of arms and they're not clamouring to change them , so does the republicmovements support the removal of god and atua in god defend new zealand ?
@RtHonDan4whoresnorth some examples from so called secular countries : austria - cathedrals , a high mission. sweden - along with god. russia - protected by god switzerland - pray to god south korea - god protect and preserve turkey - god worshipping nation . marshell islands - maker from above canada - god keep or land mongolia - sacred ancestry
@RtHonDan4whoresnorth Nice attempt at changing the subject. The fact is the "traditional New Zealander" anthem still contains the anti-Catholic second verse. It's on the Ministry of Culture and Heritage website.
@holdenrepublic: Well actually the second verse is no longer anti-catholic. Granted it was originally "frustrate their popish tricks" but that was changed by King George V to be knavish rather than popish.
Well its up to every person to exercise their civic duty (if they so choose) to learn the lyrics and get informed as to why we use it and also why we retain it , forgotten monarchy ? i think that 45% of the pop. would disagree with that statement and 25% wouldn't care either way.
Rubbish. If 45% of NZers actually cared about the monarchy you wouldn't get blank stares everytime GSTQ is mentioned. NZers know how to sign God Defend New Zealand because it's relevant to them. The monarchy isn't, nor is this anti-Catholic German tune.
this is the best rendition of GStQ

Who's seriously proposed getting rid of the head of state? New Zealand republicans propose replacing the head of state, not getting rid of it.

Clarification: removing the sovereign and postion of Governor - General .
RtHonDan4whoresnorth 2 years ago
And replacing those offices with a New Zealand citizen. It's not legally difficult nor improbable.

its ok i often wonder what some ppl were talking about on other vids b4 i found that out.
now personally (this is just me talking) i think it should delegated to royal anthem.
RtHonDan4whoresnorth 2 years ago
By "our" culture you mean Protestant New Zealanders... since GSTQ is an anti-Catholic song ("Confound their Knavish tricks")...
According to a TVNZ poll in 2002, during the Queen's last Royal tour, found 58% thought the monarchy had no relevance.

RtHonDan4whoresnorth 2 years ago
Well it is about loyalty to the Crown: the Protestant Crown of William of Orange, against the Catholic forces of James II (the Jacobites).
Actually, there's no law that states GTSQ is to be played whenever the Queen's around, unlike GDNZ which is actually backed by regulation.
holdenrepublic 2 years ago
I agree with you the haritage ministry needs to update the info and your right we need clearer rules when to play god save the queen.
