  • Good music, poor performance. Devoid of Glass's depth and emotion

  • I'm afraid this does nothing for me. I love all of the minimalist music, especially Steve Reich, but for some reason, this is, to me, dare I say it ... a tad pretentious?

  • FUCK! STOP MESSING WITH THE TIME SIGNIATURE AND PLAY IT RIGHT, GLASS!!!

  • hahahahahaha someone teach that kid how to give a que

  • @fatguy0nacouch someone first out to teach you how to spell "cue".

  • @DJcaliban Someone ought to teach you how to spell "ought"

  • must be hard as hell to play without getting repetitive motion

  • I don't like Philip Glass. But,this music and performance is great.

  • @coppon you dick... better not to leave a comment

  • long live the romans, doh.

  • Comment removed

  • @ BURGER- HAVE YOU EVER SEEN PHILIP GLASS PLAY THATS HOW HE STARTS THE SONGS YOU DUMB NUT

  • Thanks, boys.

  • I dig this a little more with synth sounds that have less attack (like the original) but great job pulling this off.

  • LMAO! what did the guy on the left do to start the song?? Sneeze?????

  • @burger414 Its the way glass used to start pieces by the Philp Glass Ensemble. Since he was playing keys, he had to conduct with head movements.

  • what synths are those? the right one looks like alesis micron?

  • what synths are those? the right one looks like alesis micron?

  • I can't imagine what the next 10 minutes has in store...

  • Listening to this defrags my brain!

  • Despite the negative comments, just realize how hard this is to perform. If one person screws up, everyone will know. It takes an insane amount of focus and impeccable counting.

And I don't think this has anything to do with Glass's opinion on parallel fifths. Many modern composers (I use the term liberally) will take stacks of perfect fifths and plane them up and down across music as accompanying figures - take a look at Debussy, Copland, and Reich.

  • The organist reminds me of myself driving a truck on I94 at 3:45 am on 2 hours sleep - Yeah, I flipped my rig that night....

  • those who are so critical, you probably don't even know what music in fifths means. Can you find a piece of music that only has fifth steps that is better than this?

If you don't like listening to it, don't listen to it.

  • @professorODOG I do know what fifths are, I know a lot about music theory, as I've done music for 6 years. And I can tell this is just really lazy.

  • you are both wrong. Glass composed this piece as an ironic composition that tries to exemplify what happens when you use parallel fifths, or the name of the title.

basically, glass is dictating to NOT USE PARALLEL FIFTHS, as they are gross.

    nuff said.

  • people who don't like this probably listen to lady gaga, so i wouldn't listen to them because this gets me hard

  • @gwhodo90 what if you like this and lady gaga :)

  • Excellent... first rate performance!

  • Hey! People! you know what?! Let's go towards the railway together and all sit and listen to the trains going by! And you know something else? Let's all go to the airconditioner fan in my appartement and let the everlasting repetitive sounds stun our minds with it's beauty! XD

  • epic fail

  • I'm doing this piece with a 25 piece all amplified orchestra. Awesome.

  • Wow, just wow!!

  • Is the keyboardist going insane from the boredom, lol?

  • DOO DOOD OOT DOOT DOOT DOOOTTT

  • Nice to see this performed other than the philip glass ensemble.

  • it never changes :0

  • On the contrary, you would be surprised by how many musicians have trouble with how much Glass's music changes. Look at one of his scores and you'll see what I mean. Very rarely are two adjacent measures the same.

  • Fantastic!!

  • what is with all the cat comments?

  • Great job guys!!

  • Did this make the back of anybody else's neck hurt?

  • Good lord.......kitten blood is raining down upon us.

  • damn dood, if that's the recital, then i don't even want to imagine the rehearsals

  • Well If you don't like it don't listen.

    Great repetitive themes...

    Just love it ;-)

  • that's excruciating!!

I should go downstairs and see if my cat's still alive.

  • AHHHHHHH!!!!!

    SOMEBODY SHOOT ME

    *bang*

    better

  • modern music in the way I don't like it.

surfing on youtube can have its bad sides :p

  • Wow china is happy they get to eat millions of cats thanks to this

  • So many dead kittens! Argh!

  • great music ! increasing pleasure, over the addition of motifs.

and hard to play it, requires good concentration from the performers (particularly from the conductor, who is, here, the young man who shakes his head).

  • well, there goes all my music theory training down the drain

  • Bach just slaughtered every kitten in a 1000 mile radius of his burial lot...

  • @mu4990 this isn't bach.

  • Head asplodes

  • too pretentious for my liking

  • Too Pretentious??? For your liking?

    Ah, the irony!

  • i've figured it out.. someone is speaking to him from behind so he leans back to talk..

"Is your keyboard plaugged in good?"

    "yeah mate"

or someone threw something at him.. like a smartie, too small to see on camera and he leaned back to tell them to F off.

  • Comment removed

  • The headbang thing? PG did that too! :D This is cool btw. Needed a lot of concentration!

  • Nah, he leaned back to catch it with his mouth.

  • I guess it is an exercise in concentration. Isn't it a piece with 17x that bar 9 times that bar. Great for listening but hard to play indeed! The keyboard player is indicating the sections of the piece as in Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt (and Horizon and Lemniscaat etc.) to get into the progression simultaniously. No way to indicate it otherwise when you like to continue playing.

  • soooorry, i'm not usually so bold..

but the guy in the left is weiiiird at the beginning :D

  • Yeah I know, I am weird as fuck. No hard feelings.

  • Sorry! No offense meant..

  • Instead of a count in one can also do some movement with the head :) Nothing unusual bout that.

  • fake

  • I think Bach just killed a Kitten... haha

  • Next time someone should put two pencils up his nose just before he starts :)

  • I love the Philip Glass sistematic rhythm concept.

  • The emphasis is shifting around so fast... yikes. That's a bit brain-bending that is. Impressive stuff, but I wouldn't want to play it!

  • Good excercise for fingers.... Must be so tough to perform the piece!!
