I'm afraid this does nothing for me. I love all of the minimalist music, especially Steve Reich, but for some reason, this is, to me, dare I say it ... a tad pretentious?
Despite the negative comments, just realize how hard this is to perform. If one person screws up, everyone will know. It takes an insane amount of focus and impeccable counting.
And I don't think this has anything to do with Glass's opinion on parallel fifths. Many modern composers (I use the term liberally) will take stacks of perfect fifths and plane them up and down across music as accompanying figures - take a look at Debussy, Copland, and Reich.
those who are so critical, you probably don't even know what music in fifths means. Can you find a piece of music that only has fifth steps that is better than this?
If you don't like listening to it, don't listen to it.
you are both wrong. Glass composed this piece as an ironic composition that tries to exemplify what happens when you use parallel fifths, or the name of the title.
basically, glass is dictating to NOT USE PARALLEL FIFTHS, as they are gross.
Hey! People! you know what?! Let's go towards the railway together and all sit and listen to the trains going by! And you know something else? Let's all go to the airconditioner fan in my appartement and let the everlasting repetitive sounds stun our minds with it's beauty! XD
On the contrary, you would be surprised by how many musicians have trouble with how much Glass's music changes. Look at one of his scores and you'll see what I mean. Very rarely are two adjacent measures the same.
great music ! increasing pleasure, over the addition of motifs.
and hard to play it, requires good concentration from the performers (particularly from the conductor, who is, here, the young man who shakes his head).
I guess it is an exercise in concentration. Isn't it a piece with 17x that bar 9 times that bar. Great for listening but hard to play indeed! The keyboard player is indicating the sections of the piece as in Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt (and Horizon and Lemniscaat etc.) to get into the progression simultaniously. No way to indicate it otherwise when you like to continue playing.
Good music, poor performance. Devoid of Glass's depth and emotion

I dig this a little more with synth sounds that have less attack (like the original) but great job pulling this off.

@burger414 Its the way glass used to start pieces by the Philp Glass Ensemble. Since he was playing keys, he had to conduct with head movements.

@professorODOG I do know what fifths are, I know a lot about music theory, as I've done music for 6 years. And I can tell this is just really lazy.

i've figured it out.. someone is speaking to him from behind so he leans back to talk..
"Is your keyboard plaugged in good?"
"yeah mate"
or someone threw something at him.. like a smartie, too small to see on camera and he leaned back to tell them to F off.
