I'm sorry, but that folks is some damn fine shooting. Astounded at your ability to nail that target at that distance with the bushmaster. Carry on my friend. Well done!
@Jacko4591 Oh boy, you should try out the AR-10 SuperSASS semiautomatic sniper platform then. 1.5" groups at 600 yards with standard .308 FMJ. When I get my TM-10 stripped lower, I will build a .308 SuperSASS out of it.
@Jacko4591 The .223 has a major advantage that allows it to literally compete in the same league as the heavyweight .30 caliber rounds...velocity. The 3400-3800 fps performance of the .223 makes it's trajectory in the first 300 yards look like a laser. It drops little away from 300 yards but only very little. The company Burris makes a special .223 scope ranged for 600 yards. If you use the aiming stakes at the bottom of the crosshair, you can hit out to 800 yards or more.
Great vid. I have a varminter with the standard fluted barrel.I have yet to take it it out and I was wondering if yours is a 1;8 or 1;9 twist and what ammo you suggest. Thanks
U.S. Marines qualify at 200, 300 and 500 yards with open sights. In my day the weapon of choice was the M16 with A1 sights, a standard 20" barrel with 1/12” twist using 55 grain bullets. I scored 241 out of 250 but my shooting ability was nothing special. Of course a heavy match barrel will improve accuracy but is not required. To shoot expert get the U.S. Marines Marksmanship Rifle Manual MCRP 3-01A. You can download it for free. Just Google it. Happy shooting!
223 ar15s are bad ass i dont care wut ppl say a kid tonld me that the military would rather use 9mm pistoles that an ar and that i a huge load of shit.
Great Video, May I ask how you started the sight in process? Did you as a start sight the rifle in @ say 10 inches high @ 100 yards and the "walk" the targets out to 700 yds? What type scope mount are you using? At 700 yds what was the maximum height of the bullets fight path between the muzzle and target and how far out from the muzzle did the bullet reach its maximum height? Thank you for your reply.
the thrid shot was dead center and you could see it if you look close, nice shooting. I normally use a .300 weatherby when shooting that far. good video.
could shooting at this distance take down anything bigger than a squirrel?i would guess that this is just more about accuracy than actually trying to put down something/someone at that distance.
@bobsolla Would you care to stand in front of his target at that range.....I didn't so........even 62 gr ammo will penetrate a k-pot @ 800 meters........so i believe it would be safe to say that an AR-15 is lethal @ that range !!!
@unknwnshooter of course not!i was just asking if it was effective at doing anything but hittting a target at that range!don`t get defensive!it was an honest question!if i didn`t say before,very nice shooting!thanks for the response!
Does that barrel have the 1-9 twist rate and if so mine does not stabilize that kind of heavy round, but yours is quite a bit longer do u think that has anything to do with it.
@dudejo its all about the speed of sound .... the gun is close so you hear it when he shoots but the target is 700yds away and sound has to travel the distance
UPDATE AUGUST 2011: I'm going to try this again at roughly the same distance but using two HD cameras; one from the shooting spot and a target cam. Also, I posted a video in July 2011 from this same location, shooting tracers at 800 yards with a carbine. That video is 1080p HD.
hey numnuts our marines use Acogs, eotechs, aimpoints and scopes not irons they only use irons during BT and rarely use irons out in battle so your a dipshit
@techdeckdude4 ok first off. I was in the Marine Corps and in training we shot from the 500 with iron sites as well as acogs and different kinds of scopes. we trained with iron sites because they always work. acogs can get damaged or broken. you have to be able to know how to use every kind of site or scope.
Check out the guy who pings an 8" steel plate at 1000 yards with an old Swiss K31 - with open sights.
And yes btw you had 4 hits in the heart not 3 - they were at 2 o'clock position right on top of each other. I've never had the chance to take my DPMS 5.56 beyond 500 450 yards but would love to see what she'd do. I'm looking for a M36 & a K31 as we speak. Want to try that 6.5x55 and 7.5x55 real bad, and I love the pull action of the K31. Nice shooting btw.
@dzsk8tr well Tess at that high velocity and projectile size it would probably go through you like butter and it's a ar 15 it's designed for insane range and killing power
@dzsk8r Oh yea. My ballistic calculator tells me that a similar load with a Berger bullet at the speed he chronographed should still be traveling at about 1680 feet per second with a energy of 470 foot pounds.
Awesome. I just made my first rifle purchase and it's the BM Varminter! I'm going to use it for recreational shooting and I think I'd be happy with just that scope you're using. What's the part number to your scope?
Awesome! Is your Varminter rifle equipped with a Match trigger? Geissele Automatics has a video out on their Hi-Speed National Match where accuracy is greatly improved from stock OEM trigger with ~10 millisecond lock time to less than half that, compared to a Remington 700 bolt-action of ~2.5 millisecond lock time.
@cfhstyo Bah, thats no problem. Standard Marine Corps qualification course has you firing a 20 inch A2 with iron sights at a 12 inch bull at 200 and 300 and at a silhouette at 500. I was in the Corps 6 years and at 200 and 300 I could ace it but I never could at 500 because I always seemed to drop one or two slightly outside the silhouette at 500. 300 to 400yds is cake with iron sights and standard issue ammo in a sitting or prone position..
Thanks for the video. I have the same rifle, with the 20" barrel (Predator). Really nice guns, and hold up to higher priced counterparts!! I like how you kept your video simple and accurate ;-)
@glockbite you're making me jealous - we need a sort of licence to own certain pellet guns,
a government of the people - by the people.......but the people cannot be trusted by the government to defend themselves - despite the majority not trusting the government.
@dabomber34 From the sound of bullet on steel and after looking at the marks I would think they would certainly be penatrating wounds maybe not lethal but I would be hiding behind something solid either way.
Great video, obviously there are better cartridges..blah blah blah I wouldn't wanna be that target. outstanding marksmanship as well. Way to show up all the .308 fanboys who like to try and take all the wind out of the .223's sails. Bet you ten bucks you cant to it with an AK ;)
i wonder how accurate a downsized neck of a 30-06 to a .223 would be. would probably be pretty fast but idk how stable that would be. also did u have to specially sight in ur rifle to shoot 700yds or are u just aiming high and guessing?
Great shooting...... the farthest range I have been able to get mine on is just 225 yards. I cant wait for an opportunity to get it on a much larger scale!
Very nice shooting. I've been thinking of using that cartridge on my rifle but decided to develop a hand load with more of a hunting bullet since that is why I will be using the rifle for. Anyway, great job ! !
Really good job. I'll admit I was surprised that you were able to score pretty consistant hits with that calibre at that range. Now let's see ya do it with an ACOG sight!
@tnoutdoors9 UH Yeah BUT they copied or Borrowed that concept from the Russians from places like Stalingrad
(Say that with a GROWL LOL) Again I'm not attempting to be a wise ass, I carried the 5.56 for 4 long years during the Cold War as a member of our armed services, We were trained that beyond 400 meters and your pretty much throwing that round away, Because it becomes pretty much ineffective. So it does not makes much sense to me when there are far more capable such as the 30 cal.
@jennalla Well lets see, The last time I checked, It's a FREE COUNTRY and I have the RIGHT to choose which caliber round I want to shoot. For the longest I chose the 30-06, However I now like a more EXOTIC caliber, Which by the way the 7.62x54 is identical to the 308. And if you knew anything about calibers and ballistics you would have known this fact instead of sending me such an ill worded and IMMATURE message. Learn your facts child. And speak not ill towards your PEERS !!!
@mesquiteguy1221 The 7.62x54R's case is three millimeters longer than the .308 Winchester's case, and its base is rimmed. What you should say is that the two rounds perform very similarly in terms of ballistics.
@mesquiteguy1221 The 7.62x51, and not the 7.62x54, is the equivalent of the .308 Winchester. But "if you knew anything about calibers and ballistics you would have known this fact" ;)
@mesquiteguy1221 Thank You that was well said, And your right. I really have not shot a 308, Perhaps one of the few rounds I have not shot, Unless you count the M-60. (Besides the much larger calibers.) BUT I do Enjoy shooting the Russian 7.62x54.
@mesquiteguy1221 the 7.65 would be too heavy. it would sure as hell have the knock down power, but youd probably need to aim up a whole lot. and i doubt arabs are gonna be as good as this guy, maybe a few but not a lot
Not to knock the Mosin Nagant as I own one, but come on.. A Military surplus rifle with surplus ammo? Maybe hand loads with a modern barrel could you guarantee that kind of accuracy. The Mosin is a great gun, but its not a 1000 yard sniper rifle.
@tnoutdoors 9.... I'm presently building an ar15 that will be considered a sniper rifle. I'm at the point where I am deciding on a barrel. What barrel is on your rifle? Length.twist,crown and brand?
whats the twist ratio on your barrel ? i heard that matters alot with the grain of the bullet for the accuracy? im new to this trying to improve long range shooting with my AR
700. I have zero marks for 100, 200, and 400. I started at the 400 mark and worked my way up first using math estimations, then some practice shots to confirm.
Too dangerous. I've shot tracers on this property, 400 yards or so, under soaking wet conditions. The tracer hit the ground and fragments, or the core itself, shot up to incredible heights.
I find it fairly impressive that the 5.56 round still maintains a considerble amount of energy at 700 yards. Those were some solid hits. im considering buying an AR platform for plinking, but am not sure if i want to get the standard gas impengement system or the gas piston system.
I've shot only a few rounds from a gas piston system, Stag Arms in the 6.8 SPC. It was just a sight-in session I did for someone in the backyard, not enough to make any kind of review on it.
i think i know the answer to this. would that round be deadly at that distance? as in could you reliably engage someone at that distance and expect to kill them.
I have a question Tnoughdoors9, I am hopefully getting a STAG ARMS Model 8 sometime next year; I was curious about the magazines. The Model 8 I know can shoot 5.56 and .223, but are the magazines capable of holding the .223 without jamming? Or will I have to get entirely different magazines?
@Stickyittoyou I have a model 8 STAG and its never jammed on me, i feed it with magpul pmags, HK clone Maritime mags from CDNN, alluminum GI with magpul internals, and c products. Truly a swell carbine to shoot and clean too!
@barmtrail If you are looking for just a regular 2-400yd gun i would go with the stag arms model 8. i have it and it is a great and accurate gun. Ive had no problem with it this far and have shot about 500 rounds threw it.
I'm sorry, but that folks is some damn fine shooting. Astounded at your ability to nail that target at that distance with the bushmaster. Carry on my friend. Well done!

This is really testing your ability to squeeze and not pull.
QuattroStig 1 year ago
@rolighetsfaktor a yard is 3 feet so 700 yards is 2100 feet so that is 640 meters
ChevyMan9223 1 year ago
@ChevyMan9223 2100 feet is like... 2/5th of a mile.
zenthex1234 1 year ago
seriously, what the fuck is a yard? use meters like the rest of the world
rolighetsfaktor 1 year ago
Not to down grade the 5.56 BUT the 7.65x54 is a more capable round at those distances.
mesquiteguy1221 1 year ago
@mesquiteguy1221
I can see that. Aren't the Arab snipers using that caliber?
tnoutdoors9 1 year ago
@tnoutdoors9 UH Yeah BUT they copied or Borrowed that concept from the Russians from places like Stalingrad
(Say that with a GROWL LOL) Again I'm not attempting to be a wise ass, I carried the 5.56 for 4 long years during the Cold War as a member of our armed services, We were trained that beyond 400 meters and your pretty much throwing that round away, Because it becomes pretty much ineffective. So it does not makes much sense to me when there are far more capable such as the 30 cal.
mesquiteguy1221 1 year ago
@mesquiteguy1221 ammo has changed a lot since the cold war days.

@jennalla I would reply but i feel like I, Mesquiteguy, and yourself have made you out as enough of an idiot already.

@tnoutdoors9 you should get a cheytac m200 intervention that would be epic i mean you can hit easy at 1.5 mile its my fav gun my cousin has it

@lynette1953
Don't understand why you ask relevant to the video, but No. I'm anti-terrorist, regardless of nationality.
tnoutdoors9 11 months ago
what is wrong with u u must be a communist the 7.62x54 is gay.Now if u say 7.62x51nato/308 then yes it is superior.
jennalla 1 year ago
@jennalla Well lets see, The last time I checked, It's a FREE COUNTRY and I have the RIGHT to choose which caliber round I want to shoot. For the longest I chose the 30-06, However I now like a more EXOTIC caliber, Which by the way the 7.62x54 is identical to the 308. And if you knew anything about calibers and ballistics you would have known this fact instead of sending me such an ill worded and IMMATURE message. Learn your facts child. And speak not ill towards your PEERS !!!
mesquiteguy1221 1 year ago 9
@mesquiteguy1221 The 7.62x54R's case is three millimeters longer than the .308 Winchester's case, and its base is rimmed. What you should say is that the two rounds perform very similarly in terms of ballistics.

ShawnxZ0mb3h1194 10 months ago
@mesquiteguy1221 The 7.62x51, and not the 7.62x54, is the equivalent of the .308 Winchester. But "if you knew anything about calibers and ballistics you would have known this fact" ;)
backofbeyond5 6 months ago
@mesquiteguy1221 Thank You that was well said, And your right. I really have not shot a 308, Perhaps one of the few rounds I have not shot, Unless you count the M-60. (Besides the much larger calibers.) BUT I do Enjoy shooting the Russian 7.62x54.
mesquiteguy1221 1 year ago
@mesquiteguy1221 the 7.65 would be too heavy. it would sure as hell have the knock down power, but youd probably need to aim up a whole lot. and i doubt arabs are gonna be as good as this guy, maybe a few but not a lot
omglmao12345 1 year ago
@mesquiteguy1221 Care to substantiate? No you do not, because you're clearly a fucking moron...
ChristyTV 1 year ago
@mesquiteguy1221
Not to knock the Mosin Nagant as I own one, but come on.. A Military surplus rifle with surplus ammo? Maybe hand loads with a modern barrel could you guarantee that kind of accuracy. The Mosin is a great gun, but its not a 1000 yard sniper rifle.
elesjuan 11 months ago
@mesquiteguy1221 no shit, its a actual sniper round.5.56 isnt
TheGoodOlBoyzChannel 11 months ago
@tnoutdoors 9.... I'm presently building an ar15 that will be considered a sniper rifle. I'm at the point where I am deciding on a barrel. What barrel is on your rifle? Length.twist,crown and brand?
behindeverybush1 1 year ago
@behindeverybush1
24", 1:9, I'll have to check on the crown; but it's a Bushmaster. I purchased the complete rifle, I didn't 'build from the ground up.
tnoutdoors9 1 year ago
Time of Flight = 4 seconds
556suppressor 1 year ago
whats the twist ratio on your barrel ? i heard that matters alot with the grain of the bullet for the accuracy? im new to this trying to improve long range shooting with my AR
killer72084 1 year ago
@killer72084
1:9, 24" barrel.
tnoutdoors9 1 year ago
An important question is "would this round be lethal at such a range?"
Jackarunda 1 year ago
@Jackarunda sounds like it when it hits the plate
killer72084 1 year ago
@Jackarunda
It could slow down someone, I would think. Possibly lethal with a head shot, or getting lucky on a femoral artery, etc.
tnoutdoors9 1 year ago
@Jackarunda
Well, certainly lethal with a headshot, unless it's a glancing shot on a modern ballistic helmet.
It's just that I think people underestimate the 5.56 round. Meh, what do I know...
Jackarunda 1 year ago
Great shooting. good video. maybe in the future you could put some balloons out there.

what was your zero for this shot? 100, 200, 300 yards?
MrBallistics 1 year ago
@MrBallistics
700. I have zero marks for 100, 200, and 400. I started at the 400 mark and worked my way up first using math estimations, then some practice shots to confirm.
tnoutdoors9 1 year ago
@tnoutdoors9 can you please do this with tracers next time you have them?
HITMANMONSTER 1 year ago
@HITMANMONSTER
Too dangerous. I've shot tracers on this property, 400 yards or so, under soaking wet conditions. The tracer hit the ground and fragments, or the core itself, shot up to incredible heights.
tnoutdoors9 1 year ago
@tnoutdoors9 math estimation = scientific wild ass guess
averagepatriot 1 year ago
I find it fairly impressive that the 5.56 round still maintains a considerble amount of energy at 700 yards. Those were some solid hits. im considering buying an AR platform for plinking, but am not sure if i want to get the standard gas impengement system or the gas piston system.
Ranger4321 1 year ago
@Ranger4321 although i love gas pistons, i think DI would be best for maximum accuracy.
joeratti 1 year ago
@Ranger4321
I've shot only a few rounds from a gas piston system, Stag Arms in the 6.8 SPC. It was just a sight-in session I did for someone in the backyard, not enough to make any kind of review on it.

Damn, I'm quite jealous.
kurnellampdwarf 1 year ago
dont worry about the misses cuz i dont think anyone can make that shot with out ALOT of time to set up and in combat you dont have that
COMANCHY3 1 year ago
i think i know the answer to this. would that round be deadly at that distance? as in could you reliably engage someone at that distance and expect to kill them.
spazzz64 1 year ago
I have a question Tnoughdoors9, I am hopefully getting a STAG ARMS Model 8 sometime next year; I was curious about the magazines. The Model 8 I know can shoot 5.56 and .223, but are the magazines capable of holding the .223 without jamming? Or will I have to get entirely different magazines?
Stickyittoyou 1 year ago
@Stickyittoyou
I'm using the same mags for both rounds.....Colt, Simmons, Bushmaster, Brownell, Magpul, etc.
tnoutdoors9 1 year ago
@Stickyittoyou I have a model 8 STAG and its never jammed on me, i feed it with magpul pmags, HK clone Maritime mags from CDNN, alluminum GI with magpul internals, and c products. Truly a swell carbine to shoot and clean too!

@HITMANMONSTER
$1200 in 2006 or 2007.

@barmtrail get a dpms great gun and great price
ChrisAR7 1 year ago
@barmtrail If you are looking for just a regular 2-400yd gun i would go with the stag arms model 8. i have it and it is a great and accurate gun. Ive had no problem with it this far and have shot about 500 rounds threw it.
Dlettie9 1 year ago
@barmtrail If I were you I would built one . . I have an ar that woulda ran me about 1600+ with what I have on it. . but instead.. its run me 900.
armymdgraddy 1 year ago
just wondering where you were holding the cross hairs for that distance or did you adjust your scope where you hold right on anyway great shooting
ajandnik1 1 year ago
@ajandnik1
Middle of the target.....when I could see it. Lighting was bad, wind gave me a mirage, and I need a more powerful scope for this distance.
