Love Sabbath, I have the same birthday as Ozzy, and every time I listen to this it reminds me of Petra (the Christian rock band) . To sing for Sabbath properly, you need to sound like you are being drug off to hell. That's just how it is bitches.
Don't tell me I don't know sabbath. I have the official black sabbath comic book. I know this is Dio singing and I know this was the year that Tony left sabbath to join the band Kingdom Come which was great. Don't try and make me look stupid.
@backroadjunkie Yup, this is Tony Martin. My brother had this CD and I listened to it backwards and forwards since I was little. nolordsnomasters has his facts correct.
@backroadjunkie Tony is on all the albums, he's the only constant Black Sabbath member (don't you know God is omnipresent? lol). And this is Tony Martin, relatively unknown at the time, singing. Dio left Sabbath in 1982 and wouldn't be back until 1992's Dehumanizer. He does sound like a throatier Dio though.
People really should just stop criticizing everything and just shut up !! i dont give a flying fuck where u are or what you think about religion or yourself ughhh
wow i had actually forgot about the noises at the start of the song havent heard the proper version since i was a kid cheers heavy... mad song great artists
@An7hraxHD Its about a village in England named "Headless Cross" that was plagued by a great illness. The people blamed it all on satan and accused each other of devil worship because they thought God was punishing them. Sadly, the whole village was wiped out.
The singer is good, but Ozzy and Dio are just better. I mean, with Ozzy they had a style that really fits with Ozzy's voice, and with Dio they changed their style to something that went better with his voice. This song is still in the same style as their songs with Ronnie, and he just sounds better in that style.
martin's style is clearly inspired by dio's...i never liked the martin era of sabbath that much, but this album is a heck of an album no doubt bout...
I have this on 7inch.....hard to get. It's allegedly about a small village that was beset by the Black Death during Medieval times. Village was quarantined and all the people died- hence, "The Headless Cross"....
Someone told that this song was about cutting off the head of Christianity. But i think that is nonsense. The person who said this has been dead for about 20 years now. He was in his mid twenties when he died. He committed suicide. Pitty.
Why isn't this album on Itunes??? It is so hard to find everywhere else and it's expensive when you do find it. Urgghh.. Btw, best Sabbath album was Dehumanizer
Obviously I prefer Dio to Ozzy. Ozzy was great and has a role in history but his voice was never that great. I had an opportunity to see him in '85 and he was damned near a caricature of himself even then. Only redeeming feature of that show was Metallica opened on the "Master of Puppets" tour and I got to see Cliff play.
This is actually pretty close to my favorite Sabbath album. The only album that might be better is Heaven and Hell. My preference changes based on my mood at the moment. Both albums are great.
what Ricky Martin you say???????ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!it is so funny!!!!anyway, the vocalist is Tony Martin and he is one of the best vocalists!!!an incredible voice, illuminated talent!!!so perfect!!!!
@ejl1000 Don't listen! I'm not a fan of Technical Ecstasy or Never Say Die, though both have good songs, but Mob Rules, Born Again, Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, Tyr, Dehumanizer (best one ever!!!), and Cross Purposes are all excellent albums.
@BLACKSABBATH0HM No... I happen to own Technical Ecstasy, and I have listened through Never Say Die several times. Technical Ecstasy has some catchy songs, but somehow it just doesn't catch my interest on the whole, and Never Say Die... Well, Johnny Blade is good...
Black Sabbath has NEVER sucked. It has merely had different stages. Ozzy, Dio, Ian Gillian, Tony Martin...they all brought different degrees of holy thunder.
Rather thank argue which singer is best people should realize that Black Sabbath is in fact a "dynasty" band. It has changed through the years. Personally, enjoy Dio best but if you're a true fan of Black Sabbath you need to understand that this band has evolved through the years and therefore each singer's contribution is just as important as Ozzy's. Treat Black Sabbath like an italian family dynasty ...... enjoy eating pasta & olives while Tony Iomi plays beside the dinner table. FAMILY !!
@BLACKSABBATH0HM It's the same lineup as on Mob Rules; so Dio, Butler, Iommi, and Appice. They called it Heaven and Hell so that they could perform only stuff they did together live, rather than having to have them perform stuff from other lineups like what had happened before when Dio was in the band. They're the same thing, though... Pure awesomeness.
@Defcon737 Why? He was just saying he show his respect. Everybody shows their respect in some ways, whether it's weird, or just normal (listening, going to shows, etc.)
@KristianCramer i ain't mad at all you impudent, ignorant fool, fyi i am a die hard ozzy fan, but your music judgment is thinly-veiled masturbation and you only show your music immaturity like that...if you don't have the brain capacity to understand and comprehend correctly the worth of the rest of sabbath's work, aside from the ozzy era, then you are as pathetic as you seem to be to everybody reading your comment...
@KristianCramer i'm irritated because you see, i am a human and you are a human, but you are dumb, immature and a fool, so you give a bad name and you disgrace my species...and, fyi, that's really hard to repent for it...so,unless you change your dna or quit being a dumb living, you're gonna irritate me...

headless cross is one of black sabbath's best album right up there with heaven and hell, the mob rules, sabbath, bloody sabbath, etc.......
it's the best of the tony martin era albums.

Ozzy and Ian rocked. Dio was lame and just a filler poser... sure he can sing, but nobody made a song to fit his vocals

@celticwitan You need a lesson in metal if you can say that Dio was a poser... Just as well you could say that Rob Halford can't sing 'cause he's a faggot.
