I saw UFO and Rainbow on June 5, 1982 at Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, WI from the second row, what an awesome show. Blackmore played guitar with numerous Heineken bottles. He then smashed them in the area between the seating area and the stage.
When I saw Rainbow in 82 in Russelsheim Germany, I loved thiss band , the energy and great musicianship, plus those eyes behind them. Made a great night.
@dcf68 I gave thumbs up for your comment, but it's funny how everyone says JLT is the most underrated frontman/vocalist. It's a contradiction that so many people say it. :-)
I got "Straight Between the Eyes" on vinyl when it first came out in '82, and this has always been my favorite song on it. I immediately started working on learning this on guitar. I'm still not as good as Ritchie, but I keep trying. :)
It was Saxon that opened for them, at least in Norman, Oklahoma. But they rocked. JLT's voice kinda cracked towards the end of the show, but not real bad.
This is the best version of this song that I've heard. Blackmore's lead really goes off with some sweet feedback. A little later in this show, he starting playing the guitar with a frisbee.
Was twelve years old when i went to this show with my sisters. Thanks for posting this brings back memories of how bad ass rock n roll was in San Antonio
Was actually at that concert my siters took me i was twelve years old. thanks for posting this brings back memories of when rock n roll was strong in San antonio
San Antonio use to be called the rock and metal capitol of the world. They tried to make it the tejano capitol of the world. Now they want to make it the country music capitol. I say fuck off! The people in SA will never give in to your fucking brainwashing. You can take your country music, tejano music and stick it up your ass. Long Live Rock!
I remember this was on a couple of saturdays on the MTV concert of the week I miss the days before if became a show about houses bling and spoiled 16 year olds
MTV was the SH** back in the day. When they actually showed videos and concerts. I watched MTV non-stop from 1981-1984. For me, '85 is when it started going downhill. Granted, I would watch the VMA's through the years...butnow those even suck. Especially this last one.

Joe Lynn Turner has to be the most underrated front man in the history of rock.

@dcf68 That would be Biff Byford from Saxon

I thought Richie Backmore was one of the greatest guitar players in rock history. Thanks for correcting me.

That comment alone eliminated any legitimacy whatsoever you may have had in a discussion of music.

This tour (or one real close to it) was available on VHS in the eighties. Can't fathom why nobody has posted Eyes of Fire!

Dear stwla888,
Based upon your comment you have two problems: 1) Your thinking; and 2) you cannot possibly know "most" people.
shacoja51 2 years ago 3
This comment has received too many negative votes show
I think most people got into Rainbow just to have something to do. They were not that great. Neither was UFO.

Bless you man. I feel entirely the same way. Power is a very uplifting song - my kids love it too for exactly the same reasons - great version.
