I fully agree with all you say- However, for me, it was simply a commission. Although Kipling seems on the wrong track by todays more enlightened standards he was, in his day, ahead of his time on humanitarian issues..As impossible as that seems. Please glance at such film I've made as Evolution and Leonardo da Vinci (Gaia theory )to see where my heart really is. It's with you and the Shamans.
I confess to not reading Kipling's works. Now, I don't feel bad about it. This story is offensive and inappropriate for children. It's service, if only, to demonstrate the mindlessness of human consciousness regarding animals: the character of man depicted as a sort of diety, mending the flaws within natural creation: suggesting animals are greedy eaters, when in fact, that's man's trait, not animals. Everything it teaches is erroneous.
Yeah Tony you're right - But my friend who narrated the Guide Track for this series did it for free. Flo Gibson would have been a bit more expensive. When the BBC broadcast this this they used Michael Hordern -that is their copyright.I can only use this version.Kipling invented these stories for his 5 year old daughter- so they are rather orientated to infants. Had I known you or had you been born in 1981 when I animated them I'd have asked you to narrate - as your narration is excellent .
I love this story. I've read "How the Whale Got His Throat" by Rudyard Kipling back the early `80's, when I was in grade school. This is the first time that I have seen it in animation.
I forgot about those suspenders...

This reading isn't very good; it treats these like they're stories for infants. Nobody will ever surpass Flo Gibson's narration.
