This is some real shit. I've always supported my Minneapolis homeless community. I've let plenty of them stay with me while we chill, relax, kick the luxuries to the curb and get on some real shit. I cook for them, let them use the shower, take some food with them, and try to help them out with jobs. I've been homeless in spurts. Many of them are good people. Don't let the couple of bad seeds make you stereotype everyone. We all have our own story to tell.
There are too many empty building, so we need to hire the unemployed to fix up places for them to live!
We need to have mortgage insurance , that will keep families in their home, until we place them in another job asap. People can pay back the insurance payments once back at work in installments,and interest free.
The payback is to stop a scam played by lazy people.
Everything is too expensive, so we need price controls on everything.
We need to look at the factors that create homelessness... Drugs can be 1 way... Mental problems can be another.... not exactly my position... I have moral and ethical blocks of paying taxes. Now I'm homeless because I'm in a protest against taxes. What I ask to anyone paying any form of tax is "Do you care that your work funds abortion?" I refuse to pay income tax, property tax, or sales tax. I do support taxation by donation.
when you are homeless and you are working....work becomes like a vacation. you want to keep working. do i want to work 60, 70 hours a week? you bet! its VACATION from life cause life is a nightmare.
it is too bad that min wage doesnt pay enough to live even at 60 hours per week though. you have to b working $10per hour at least!

@noonesflower I like your idea but how? I built a 2 bedroom one bath addition on my home and it cost more than that. That was also with minimum cost for labor. If you are going to build, you also need someone working with you that knows what they are doing, electrical, plumbing, etc.

I was there Mlps when My best friend on the street Froze to death as we slept under an over pass..... To be honest im one of the lucky ones that traveled the Country homeless and Luckier still that im up to where i am today. Its a Fucking shame that where once there was alot of help is nothing for us anymore. its a Damn shame. its ok as they said one paycheck from being right there with em.
I want to encourage them to buy mutual funds such as BMO Global Monthly Income fund that will pay them 5.5cents a month with a NAVPS of 5.53. It would be great to save that and build themselves enough units to help themselves. I think not needing rent and free food from soup kitchens, they could save all that they beg and earn and might be able to bank $20,000 a year if they don't do drugs.
Yup the Haiti situation is raising up a lot of controversy. Its horrible what happened there but lets take a look at whats developing here and ask why not as much funds to push America through these times. I think this is an older video but this situation is on the rise so quickly that more will know close friends that are put in this situation.
After 23 years of non-stop work (12-16 work days/7 days a week) I finally own a house. The work made me permanently ill. However, at least my children and future grandchildren will have a bed and a roof over their head. Had I not been strong enough to have maintained that work-pace for all those years, than I would have failed. It is all so very scary. God, I pray my children and future grandchildren will be smart enough to realise all of this.
man, this is sad to see. my youth group came down to minneapolis and st.paul last summer for a mission trip from canada. we learned that instead of going to mexico or panama, there is truobles close to home. i worked in marys place, which is a transitional housing for former homeless. it is very sad to see so many people hurting.

The poor have it much better than many of the working. I could be homeless. but I don't do drugs and I utilize the programs that are in place. I have a nice apartment in one of the nicest areas of my city, gated, I have cable, food, nice furniture. There's more to being homeless than just being down on your luck. Alcohol, drug abuse.
As humans we all need to do something to help. There are so many reasons why people end up homeless, you can *not* simplify the situation by saying they're all addicts or lazy. Like she said, right now there are many of us that are "one paycheck away from being homeless"-- VOLUNTEER. We're all part of the same family at the end of the day.

I became homeless after two denials from Social Security Disability. I met teachers, carpenters, plumbers, secretaries and human resource managers who were also homeless. I met hundreds who were also denied SSDI. I bought my first home with my back benefits.
We as Americans need to write our senators and congress people and demand that the $900 billion 'borrowed' from Social Security be repaid.

I want to encourage them to buy mutual funds such as BMO Global Monthly Income fund that will pay them 5.5cents a month with a NAVPS of 5.53. It would be great to save that and build themselves enough units to help themselves. I think not needing rent and free food from soup kitchens, they could save all that they beg and earn and might be able to bank $20,000 a year if they don't do drugs.

Yup the Haiti situation is raising up a lot of controversy. Its horrible what happened there but lets take a look at whats developing here and ask why not as much funds to push America through these times. I think this is an older video but this situation is on the rise so quickly that more will know close friends that are put in this situation.

After 23 years of non-stop work (12-16 work days/7 days a week) I finally own a house. The work made me permanently ill. However, at least my children and future grandchildren will have a bed and a roof over their head. Had I not been strong enough to have maintained that work-pace for all those years, than I would have failed. It is all so very scary. God, I pray my children and future grandchildren will be smart enough to realise all of this.

man, this is sad to see. my youth group came down to minneapolis and st.paul last summer for a mission trip from canada. we learned that instead of going to mexico or panama, there is truobles close to home. i worked in marys place, which is a transitional housing for former homeless. it is very sad to see so many people hurting.

People should stop having kids. Wall Street and Government do not want you to stay in you homes, forcing and allowing foreclosures. Homes are made to keep kids inside. Since people cant keep their homes, people should stop having kids and get vasectomies. We dont need more kids. Read the Grapes of Wrath. Tent Cities.

The poor have it much better than many of the working. I could be homeless. but I don't do drugs and I utilize the programs that are in place. I have a nice apartment in one of the nicest areas of my city, gated, I have cable, food, nice furniture. There's more to being homeless than just being down on your luck. Alcohol, drug abuse.

As humans we all need to do something to help. There are so many reasons why people end up homeless, you can *not* simplify the situation by saying they're all addicts or lazy. Like she said, right now there are many of us that are "one paycheck away from being homeless"-- VOLUNTEER. We're all part of the same family at the end of the day.

Has anyone every considered that the whole early 2000 century foreclosure crisis is a form or terrorism? Look at how many people are directly effected and the even large numbers that are indirectly infected. No need for bombs, bullets, or viruses. The job got done anyway.

I became homeless after two denials from Social Security Disability. I met teachers, carpenters, plumbers, secretaries and human resource managers who were also homeless. I met hundreds who were also denied SSDI. I bought my first home with my back benefits.
We as Americans need to write our senators and congress people and demand that the $900 billion 'borrowed' from Social Security be repaid.

There is no excuse in this country for people to be homeless. If the federal goverment spent as much money on solving the homeless issue as they do the Iraq war or the bailout. There would not be homelessness not every one can afford 4,5,6,700 dollar apts. If you make minimum wage and with the economy being the way it is and you cant get a second job. You have to be homeless.

I treid that, black...I went all over the county in my state to see what we could do to help the people. The news said they tried to get a building put up to house the homeless, but the neighborhood didn't want it there. End of story. I went home.

Its a shame to see that and it makes me angry, if you realize that none of them has to be homeless if this crooky goverment would cut the spending for military crap about 50%. That would be 200bln Dollars which could go into social care. You could finance food and a place to sleep for them and start programs to reintegrate them into society! Instead of carrying about thier own people they just care about themselfes. True evil which has to be taken care!

I wish that there WAS something that we, the people, could do about the homeless situation but short of a revolution, nothing else will change things. As in the collapse of the Roman empire, the civilization fell out of the corruption, greed and excesses of it's rulers, the leaders who sabotaged that most powerful civilization. I'm no conservative or liberal, but this video shows exactly why the government shouldn't tax the poor. They should free the markets so they don't need permits to do work like in so many industries. Government ordinances hurt the poor. Reglations on work hurts the poor. Bureaucracy in the welfare system hurts the poor. Back in the 1800's people didn't worry about making house payments because there was abundance. Now people are right on the edge of poverty while government grew. Shame!

I have volunteered at homeless shelters. It tears your heart out. Most
are not there of their own doing. Circumastances which are just getting worse all the time will only increase their numbers. What can we do about it?

Portland, Oregon - which has ALWAYS had a constant population of homeless (used to be just men) just built two multi-million dollar animal shelters downtown. People care more about pitbulls and pussycats than they do about people. There will be a reckoning one day.

I wish I had a way to help you... I will be praying for you. Please be strong. I myself have been homeless with 2 children. And you might not have a reason to believe it, but if you stay strong, it will be alright. The universe tends to unfold as it should.

I care! Homeless people ARE PEOPLE too. I run a shelter in Jacksonville, Florida. I don't have to. I do it because they ARE people too. What would you do if it was your baby?

Good for you. I had to leave the USA because I couldn't get healthcare. I paid my debts, was no burden, but couldn't get the basics. And I have an MBA. You keep helping them. Maybe they can get out of it. Bless you.

Excellent Video Production I was from Mpls and Had been Homeless for a time. Spend 4 yrs in a Vets Home only to be confined almost like a Prison...yep just one beer gets one in detox. Theirs no schooling their if one cannot get a disability and get out of the Vets home..hes stuck for life. You know what Ticks me off here!..You allow that Worldlemmon's comment to stay up?...dosn't it Violate the 1st Amendment when one Threatens? right he has free speech to say that?...dosn't it?

It's time for society to remove the blinders, to start funding and building ARC's (Abuse Recovery Centers) instead of prisons. It is time to train and employ, non violent, third strike offenders as mentor assistants to help themselves and the homeless assimilate back into productive social behaviors.
It is time to embrace y/our humanity . . . and conquer our fears.

After working hard for over 25 years and built a decent life for my self and my family, because of and due to the last 10 years of persistent epileptic seizures, I lost my job, my health insurance, my car, my driving license, my wife, my home and everything I ever worked hard for and saved all my life for to become destitute homeless.

This is a very real problem that needs everybody's attention. Average people don't care until they're actually in this position. Then how can we make a difference when we don't have the resources? NOBODY SHOULD HAVVE NOTHING WHEN OTHERS HAVE MORE THAN THEY NEED!!!!!!!!!!
