I just can't get enough of Croft as the Count and with Fleming this entire scene is PERFECTION. I saw them together in Cosi Fan Tutte and it was stunning, absolutely stunning. He's brilliant in Mozart, always!!
If someone is blocking the release, think who it could be, because all of the others, except Cecilia, have their roles on other versions of this which HAVE been released!
I saw this production on the national public broadcaster about ten years ago, the first opera I watched from start to end, because I found it entertaining.
I have seen several other productions of Figaro since, and still regard this as the best by far.
@nni9310 This was pretty much my experience too. I was, however, lucky enough to catch a production in Berlin a few years later which was also magnificent (from what I could tell from the back of the theatre). Seeing it live made me see what I'd earlier been told about Figaro, that physically the part is best played by a smaller, slighter man. He is, after all, supposed to be sort of crafty little weasel rather than the rugby player/bear that Bryn is. But Bryn's wonderful here anyway.
For the record, this very same production (by Jonathan Miller) was first unveiled in Vienna's Theater an der Wien in May of 1991 with this splendid cast. It was released on video by SONY and is now long overdue for rerelease on DVD.
Thank you. Incredibly entertaining Figaro, and just a crime that it isn't available on DVD. I would guess it's got to be some contract conflicts with some member or member of this star-studded cast.
