    Celine is in a class of her own, there are a lot of wannabe divas out there, but Celine is always a class act and always delivers live and her vocals cannot be compared to anymore, especially not against washed up Mariah or Whitney

I was born in a foreign country where democracy and freedom were unheard of. I can tell you there is no other country in the world with a sharper sense of freedom and democracy than US.   • this is why celine dion rocks, this was her FIRST ever televised appearance since 1999 , when she took time off for her husbands cancer and to have a baby. Its incredible because shes not JUST canadien, Shes an American, Shes also french, along with every artist who sang that night, it was lke the world was with us, shes amazing

  • this is really incredible... i remember watching this live on TV with my mother, who started crying when celine sang this. this is one of the high points of her career i think. no theatrics, just pure vocal talent and true emotion...rising incredibly to a moment in historic....

The organisers and producers asked her, and they ARE Americans, when some where asked why they asked a Canadian to sing this song for the telethon, they simply said "we wanted the best singer in the world ",so there.They made the same decision at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta .Celine was chosen to sing the openning song...I mean how do u say NO when you are asked to do something like that. We ALL share the same planet show everyone LOVE, it's free:)

  • Canadians gave millions of dollars during this telethon, Celine has a right to sing this song, anyway she is the only one who could have given that type of caliber performance and Celine works in the States which means that she pays millions of dollars of taxes to uncle Sam, so back off morons.

  • As a Puerto Rican who is an American citizen who is denied the right to elect our national leaders, I still get as excited as if my star were already in the national flag. Hopefully, statehood will solidly win in the referendum suggested by Presidents Obama and Bush and we will eventually be admitted into the Union---the first new state in over 50 years, and the second "Lone Star State", after Texas!

The world trade centre attacks affected everyone worldwide, this video just shows how race, langauge, ethnicity or nationality is irregardless, everyone came together to support each other. That's what matters.

It's one thing for an American to sing that, but a Canadian reaching out to salute our nation, especially after a national tragedy such as 9/11. It's like a friend reaching out to mourn with us, and celebrate who we are at the same time.

  • @90scoolll My point was that America is a nation that trancends ethnicity. People from anywhere in the world can become Americans or celebrate American ideals. It doesn't mean America is a perfect country or Americans are superior human beings. It means what connects Americans are ideas, not blood. You too could come to America and someday become an American, and then maybe your children would someday feel the same way cgr389 feels about his/her parents!

    You are right. Some foreigners (the dictionary definition) do show their appreciation of the US and I respect that. My 1st comment was a jab at those who can't appreciate such a beautiful patriotic song. Back in elementary, teachers taught us this one and "My Country Tis of Thee".

    I'm very tolerant of other cultures but my level of U.S. pride borders on psychotic.

  • In singing "God Bless America," Celine sent a strong message: NO one needs to be an American to appreciate their patriotic songs. This was evident in 2003 at the Super Bowl and again in 2010 when the Philadelphia Flyers played for the Stanley Cup.

  • Ok - my take - the Americas covers a vast territory from the South to the North ... we are a vast continent. And yeah - that does kinda include Canada and Quebec to the US to Mexico all the way down to South America and Argentina. So I think this was Celine's way of honoring those lost that day - yeah all we "Americans" lost so many that day - now to other countries that wonder about "America" - maybe some day we will merge as one. She therefore does call America home and was as shaken as all other Americans when 9/11 happened. However, I wouldn't expect much from a person whos vocabulary is so poor they have to resort to using "fuck" every couple of words.
