@prodigy438 'Fair Use' only applies to images that are Open Source, it is not a revision to the copyright law and does not give people permission to use copyrighted images in any way without asking permission first. That includes Reposting to another site and asking for commentary and criticism. You may however Link to said picture and ask the same thing, but you can't save it and upload it somewhere else, that is copyright infringement.
@HoldensSexKittin "Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 17 U.S.C. § 106 and 17 U.S.C. § 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by REPRODUCTION in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as CRITICISM, COMMENTING, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, IS NOT an infringement of copyright."
@HoldensSexKittin According to my reply to you, your argument is invalid. And I meant to put emphasis on REPRODUCTION IN COPIES, which is the same as saving and uploading elsewhere. And the next time you try and pick apart my argument, try and read it fully. I said "provision" NOT "revision". Go educate yourself.
I can't handle the grammar and spelling in some of these comments.. good lord. I don't think that the cosplayers are boo-hooing about any of the things said, I think that our intellectual property being stolen without permission and posted in a group we find to be a negative influence on the community is the problem. Yes, we do have the rights to our own photos, and we do have the right to ask things are taken down.
You should all learn a bit about copyright before spewing crap about open source and all that. Images on the internet are still able to be copyrighted and without asking before using them you are indeed stealing them. Just because they are publicly displayed doesn't mean they aren't under protection of the copyright law. And by law, they don't have to publicly display that the images are under copyright, it's their right as the copyright holder to do so.
Images on the internet are still safe with copyright, it's called 'Berne Convention', which states that if a person was part of or solely the creator of then they have basic copyright laws they can enforce (Unless otherwise agreed upon with other rights in place). One of the basic copyright laws is:
-to perform or display the work publicly
In which case she can decide whether or not she or anyone else does. That page is in Copyright Infringement, and can be prosecuted.
@HoldensSexKittin And as I have already stated "Fair Use" is a provision to the law made that allows for copyrighted materials to be used for purposes of commentary and criticism, WITHOUT the consent of the of the one who has it copyrighted. I don't know where you got your information from, but whoever told you that the page can be prosecuted lied to you. Admin posted the pic, and asked for opinions. Perfectly within legal bounds.
How can you lay copyright claim against someone for "stealing" your pictures when the material in the picture, the poses and ideas conveyed in the pictures are all stolen from the original creators. Get real...
@chancy319 Because I am in the picture. The outfit is my creation, regardless of the design. In the fashion world, cosplay is what we call a knock off, which is completely legal to do. The fact that I made the costume based on a source doesn't make it stealing. Besides, Mike & Bryan love cosplay! They've complemented my Suki on multiple occasions.
I'm a fan of the page. Let me get something straight: WE ARE NOT GOING TO KILL ANYONE XD Go save a puppy or something, do something better with your time.

@oblivion3992 I am making no false accusations. While the group may say it's all in good fun, there are images of badly photoshopped nooses around M.Night's neck. I'm not a fan of the guy, but that's not cool. True, there are many other, bigger, problems out there on the internet, but this still bothers me so I'm saying something about it.
I've been a fan of the page for quite a long time and I have never heard of "Yay or nay" before :/ As far as I've seen the page is full of sane people. While I may disagree with some points in your video I would still like to say sorry to every cosplayer that has been hurt on behalf of the group.
@awesomeNepic Thank you for your understanding. While I am sure there are plenty of sane people on the page, there are still quite a few Negative Nancys posting regularly. The "yay or nay" images are in the wall photos. If you see a cosplay image, chances are good that it's part of the "yay or nay" game. :[
Hey there guys from that Facebook page in question! Cosplayers alot much time and effort into getting their costumes right as they can be. Making fun of how they're made, or making snotty remarks about how the cosplayers' "race is wrong" isn't a joke and it won't be taken as such. And just because they put their pictures on the internet it DOES NOT mean that they are free game for usage by everyone. Will people still use them without permission? Yes, but that doesn't make it right. >:(
Wow ur really stupid,Iv been a fan of the page for A LONG time.First of all, if you call your pictures being "stolen",guess what, dont put if up there then.y becoz its not only them who can take it,I can even google avatar cosplayers n all you guys will pop out. Will you stop me from using them?Everyday ppl r downloading pics from google for everything, then every1s stealing!Report it agains HATE,HARASSMENT,blahblah,u sound so despicable.I'm just happy you have barely no supporters.Losers.

I'm sorry but you're taking things WAAAAAAAAAYYYYY out of context. I'd hate to see how you'd take criticism from a college professor or someone on a job, if you're getting this bent out of shape because you're were mistaken for Azula. I've seen the pic and thought it looked like Suki, but because it was mislabeled for Azula, while hanging around a Mai, Zuko, and Tylee, I figured it was Azula. You my dear, need thicker skin.
@prodigy438 Oh woe is me! People are mistaking me for a character that I am not! And you're right, I couldn't possibly handle any type of criticism from someone in real life, it's not like I'm a full time student or have a job and have to deal with people in real life or anything. I'm so glad that you were able to see the purpose of this video so clearly. Thank you, kind soul!
@oOKimbaOo I can't even take you seriously. By your own admission, you said that had people have liked your cosplaying work, you wouldn't even be making that big of a deal about copy right issues. Lets just face the fact, you're playing the role of a victim and are making false accusations against the fans because your feelings are hurt, and are using those who support you to try and back up these bogus claims.
@prodigy438 I said I wouldn't be as offended but I would still ask the images to be removed or credited. That doesn't make my accusations of theft and harassment any less valid.
@oOKimbaOo Fair use is a copyright principle based on the belief that the public is entitled to freely use portions of copyrighted materials for purposes of commentary and criticism <----- According to this statement your claim of theft holds no merit because thats exactly what was done. And I fail to see how you were harassed BEFORE you, or your friends, came to the page using offensive language (how ironic), and making false claims of racism and harassment at the hands of the fans.
@oOKimbaOo Ok, I have to apologize. I just left the page and damn it all if some of those retards didn't start making racist remarks on a different cosplayer picture. So your claims of racist remarks ARE indeed valid, so I apologize on that issue. But my thoughts on harassment and theft still stand.
I agree that the pictures should have been taken down at your request, since they were copyrighted. However, the rest of your argument was quite frankly bullshit. You kept stating how the name of the page was so hateful, yet you obviously had no problem with that when you joined the page in the first place. But then you get some negative comments and all of a sudden you become the morality police? Get real.
@xSamuraixLBx When did I say I joined the page? The page is public and a friend of mine linked me to it when our images started getting posted a few months back. We've been trying to talk to the Admin about it in private but it hasn't really worked out.
@oOKimbaOo Regardless, if you were just posting this video expressing your displeasure about the cosplay photos, I'm guessing people would sympathize with you. But instead you decided to whip out these allegations of "racism" and "personal harassment," which I'm guessing didn't even start until after you publicly posted on the page. It's total crap. So don't be surprised that people are reacting negatively to you and probably don't feel the least bit bad for you.
@xSamuraixLBx I don't expect everyone to agree with me. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a 50-50 split and I don't really care so long as one person agrees with me. By posting the images and asking people to judge it I am being harassed. My friend has asked the admin nicely on multiple occasions to take the images down and each time they have refused and mocked her.
@oOKimbaOo Alright, alright, I don't think this is worth arguing over anymore. I'm sorry I snapped at you, I was just offended because you made all of the group members look like they were racists and like they were just plain vicious, which in my experience hasn't been true at all. But anyway, I really do wish you the best in getting your photos taken down. Hopefully this whole thing can be resolved in a way that works out for both parties.
Ok because the images were copyrighted than yes they should be taken down. However, we have freedom of speech and people can speak their minds about how they feel. And as far as the racial thing goes, if people were the same skin tone as the character than of course they will get more praise because it makes them look more like the character. Yes skin tone cannot be helped (for the most part) but it's just part of life. Also no matter what there will always be criticism, whether good or bad.
Hey Kim, I say we all figure out how to take some serious action about this. This is not ok. It is harassment and its also theft of personal property.
@34finisher Wrong. Copyright still applies when you upload your own created material to the internet. In this context it's uploaded there so it can be accessed and viewed by people to comment and rate the cosplay, but on the creator's own page. Taking it without asking permission is both discourteous and illegal.
@34finisher It's not about the pages name. Hell, I hated the movie too. What I'm upset about is that they stole our images and are encouraging unfair judgement on the cosplayers.
@oblivion3992 It's about a lot of things. While the name obviously bothers me, it's not the main purpose of my post. I'm only human, and humans contradict themselves all the time. I'm not claiming my argument is flawless, just that it has a purpose. At this point if just the cosplay "yay or nay" game stopped on the page then I would be happy.
@oOKimbaOo Alot of things?U exaggerated ALMOST everything!I also opened the page ryt now, there wasnt a single comment about u not being asian, rather many ppl said only you got the pic right. Moreover even I thought u were suki.Am I attacking u now?Nw it seems as if,its ur personal agenda to take ur pics down, fine, dont pull bullshit bout the page, say only ur part. There is NO racism in the page,if u r against the fact that actors should be asian- then U R racist.
@oblivion3992 I was speaking of all the images. If you read all of the comments on the images there are ones that say "Ty Lee is supposed to be azn... Lulz." "make-up makes her look like a hooker" "Ew, no! None of them are attractive!" "yay for costume nay for face." "Nay! Too white!" ect. This isn't just about me, this is about my friends and everyone else the page is singling out and picking on.
Also, I looked up the picture and some of the comments. I wouldn't call it hate, just a lack of empathy and tactless criticism. Sadly, people do have the right to say what they like (free speech and all that), so long as it isn't a lie.
It's too bad they took the picture without permission, but understand that it will take time for a shift in online etiquette to take place. People can learn from this experience and start to treat the Internet like a public place. Posting a picture online is like taping a picture to the doors of a supermarket; anyone passing by can see it and steal it if they like (even if it plainly belongs to someone else). Or they can simply criticize it, in their mind or out loud.
One thing I learned from this video: Weight cannot be helped.
On a serious note though, although I agree with some of the points made in this video, mainly that some some people say inconsiderate things, a person has to remember that this is the Internet we're talking about. For a decade before social media, people were used to having total anonymity and having free reign to say whatever they wanted with no consequences, so they expect some of that to carry over to Facebook. It does not.
If the comments are soooooo "hurtful". UNLIKE THE PAGE and you won't see it again. Also, you willfully choose to upload your pictures to the whole internet for the world to see and expect nothing but praise. Get real...
@chancy319 Where did I say I expected nothing but praise? Hell, it was my first costume, I knew it wasn't that great. The point is that I posted it on my cosplay site, put copyright on the images, and they stole them and posted them without my permission.
1) I don't think it's hate - just poorly given judgement. They don't judge a cosplayer on quality but on whether the character looks like the cartoon version in their judgement. This is the internet - Here be idiots. 2) The not noticing you as Azula makes sense because your facial expression is Azula-like and she makes more sense to be in that group. 3) Agree with you on the not asking permission bit. It was the only point you really needed to bring up. 'My pics, no permission asked, GTFO'.
@Kaos77Kisame Thank you for your comment. I know the internet sucks, I guess I just had higher hopes for Avatar fans. And regardless of what my face looks like, each character has a different outfit so I think that would have given it away. lol
It's the internet, people are going to say things that upset you and you aren't always going to get your way. I'd suggest either coming to terms with that or spending less time on the internet. You can't go around expecting to silence anyone that has a different opinion then you, if it upsets you, ignore or avoid it, only you can be in control of your own happiness.

First: This video has been discovered by the page; warning/beware/prepare for battle
Second: Problem with the internet is best summed up by John Gabriel's Greater Internet Dickwad Theory: anonymity + audience = dickwad
Third: Don't upload something you don't want shared; nothing is private on the internet
Fourth: The page has been reported before, I doubt there is much you can do
Periphery: Unless you go Kyoshi, most will not think Suki. Your hair is not the best identifying factor.

So I take it she's never used the internet before.
