  • hi could you see my video pleas i need help with my kirby it looks like yours but i am not shur, if you could help that would be grate. look up dylan kate or click on my user name

  • nice kirby nice video with kirby in the compact mode.

  • More please...

  • This is my vacuum this one speaks to me!

  • could you show the bag a little more

  • The salesman we got our Kirby from said that he has seen Kirbys that are 40, 50 and 60 years old that STILL perform like new! It just goes to show Kirbys are built to LAST!!!!!!!!

  • i have a 509 and i restored it myself...not a scratch on it i did all the buffing it looks like it just came out of the box...the only thing i did as far as parts go was new carbon brush's other then that it is all original...runs great...and for anyone who cares..lol..i own a Kirby repair shop ..was a service manager for Kirby for 20 yrs..by far they are the best ...i will try to put it on youtube if i can figure that out..lol..but if you have a question just ask

  • cool old-school kirby there. i got a g4- works just fine.

  • Wow, cant go bad with those classic kirbys.

  • I want a 509 just for the way it sounds

  • You have a really excellent Kirby restored here! The narrow models are the best--or at least I prefer them. I saw a 560 in a yard sale, bought if for eight dollars, and took it to my vac lady and traded her my three month old Royal commercial in payment for a complete rebuild of the 560. I had just made my last payment on the Royal--not a dirt devil--a real Royal--but it was worth it in trade and my rebuilt 560 has been working well for fifteen years so far!

  • There is a reason why these vacuums are considered the best that money can buy. Its because A: They are made out of metal, and not plastic, and B: They are made in AMERICA.

  • So what is the fascination about the Kirby and the sound for everyone? For me, the sound is a classic sound from the late 60's when I was a kid and I heard my mother vacuuming. The sound was unique and soothing. Maybe it was just that the sound was soothing or maybe it was knowing that my mother was there. So what is it for you @LST235 and others?

  • Good old times. All parts are made of metal,no plastics.

  • Just bought one, a Sentria. Kicks ass for real. Used it everywhere, my sister even used it to detail her car. I LOVE KIRBY!!!!!!

  • I use to have one of these. Our local Kirby salesman gave it to me as a gift one year and it worked perfectly and came with box and attachments and everything. Sadly it was given away by accident when we had a major house clean one year, was so sad when I noticed it was gone. I really wish I had it still.

  • I believe the metal fan on your 509 has six blades rather than ten, correct?

  • You're all a bunch of idiots.

  • @Nicokid87 To each his own. I could be sitting on my ass all day playing video games.

  • Sure looks like it grooms really well

  • They dont make them like they used to

They dont sound like this either. My original 518 doesnt have that cool soudn to it.

  • i have the 515 any one know how to get parts msg me?

  • I have a Kirby 511 that needs help - it works but needs TLC. Anyone know where to get parts?

  • look up "vacuum needs" on eBay stores

  • Kirby will fix your vacuum for free no matter how old it is. That is partially why they are so expensive. They will even fix your 1949 model free of charge! They have a lifetime warranty.

  • Right, but only if you have the original paperwork and receipt, and they will remove all of the cool original features, like the gray trim, black wheels, etc. And replace it with something boring like sirocco tan...

  • sounds very nice deep and throaty

  • its nice to see somebody using a good old quality vacuum even today whith all the dysons and dirt devils lurking around every corner! kirbys will go on forever, long live kirby

  • Tell me about it. And it's crazy that these machines are going on 60 years old and they're still running, likely with original parts....it's sad that with the exception of Kirby machines today, everything's pretty much good for a couple years, then it's time to throw it away. :(

  • And all the metal Royals.

  • that's what happens when stuff is made in the USA. they ship manufacturing jobs overseas and the price isn't cheap much or at all with the consumer, it's cheap on the material and craftsmanship. still, the government wonders why the economy is downhill.

  • rainbow vacs are kick ass still (although not as pretty as a kirby)

  • GOOD...!!! Sounds amazing and looks awesome!!1

  • It runs so smooth when you first start it in this video, I can't help but be impressed more every time I watch it. Music to my ears.

I gotta get me one of the 500 series....:D

  • The 509 sounds unique because it's motor is designed different from all the other 500's. =]

  • On a similar note, all Kirbys from the model 515 to first-quarter production of the Tradition sound the same (because of the newly-designed, ten-blade zinc metal fan), except that starting in 1965 (the year of the Dual Sanitronic 50) the hose speed was made much higher.

For Sam: Would you like to acquire a model 515 or Dual Sanitronic 50 (aka D-50) sometime, if ever you happen to spot any of the two?

  • Interesting. But that aside, it just sounds so smooth...again, I'm impressed.

  • @LST235 I am so jealouse !I wish that vac was mine!I do have a nice royal vac though.

  • @LST235

The first Kirby to move away from the 3 amp motor was the 513. Why? During the middle of production, the 513 got a 4 amp motor and a new red handle grip, among other changes.

  • What a beautiful machine you have! Excellent job on the bearing replacement, it sounds so much better now.

Is this what you use for everyday cleaning?

I'm Sam B. from the Kirby Yahoo Group, btw. :)

  • Thanks! I use the Kirby to clean my bedroom, but use my mom's Kenmore to clean the rest of the house, which does a good job. I like to think that I'll never need to buy another vacuum again... =]

  • You're welcome. I use only Kirbys to clean my house...you can't get me to use anything else lol.

And that is the truth. Think about it, your Kirby was made in 1949 and it just NOW needed a rebuild....and it's right at 60 years old!

  • I just noticed that you have doubled-up front wheels, a non-Kirby modification made to stop Kirbys digging into plush carpets and getting stuck... :)

  • Sounds like new. Looks great!

  • very nice job on the kirby. sounds great. btw im joe/tx on kirby and vac collectors club

  • haha I do all the time, it's all good. I do have the original brush roll. And I'm pretty sure that it has the original bag and cord. Because I'm the 3rd owner, I'm not entirely sure...

  • No, the bag is not original. The original bag was grey and had a large red and silver Kirby logo (with similarly-accented stripes, now fully centered). All four wheels were originally black. Ditto for the original power cord.

  • I guess if I had read the caption at the top of the page I wouldn't have had to ask that question!! HAHA

  • VERY NICE 509!!! Is that the original bag, trim brushroll, and cord?
