If you have told one lie, that makes you a liar. If you have stolen one thing, that makes you a thief. JESUS said; if you look at a person with lust, you commit adultery in your heart! Ever used GOD's name in vain; then you are a blasphemer and can't enter GOD's kingdom! Rev. 21v8 says; "All liars will have their part in the lake of fire!" The bible says; No thief or adulterer will inherit GOD's kingdom! You broke GOD's laws; but JESUS paid your fine! Repent, and trust the Savior!
@redrocklove He actually went to Hades in order to resurrect all of the saints of the old testament that believed on Him beforehand, and others like Lazarus and the repentant thief, etc. Not Hell... but definitively not metaphorical. Luke 16:22 talks about Abraham's bosom, which was in Hades and opposite from Hell. This is where everyone waited for Christ to become a propitiation and to be resurrected into heaven with Him.
More sophistical spinning to divert and mislead folk! WVhy do you do this, Piper? Humility is what we feel when we realise how vast the cosmos is of which we're a physical part and how short our time to try to understand its complex workings! It knows nothing of our consciousness, much less 'cares' about us or our 'fate.' We're a miniscule part of it's vast expanse; when we found we weren't at its centre (as arrogant Christers still think), we learnt humility and began to see its beauty.
@ejack2000 Mmm. A lot of what you say is true & very Christian actually. But Piper has got it right. Like you said, having a correct view of ourselves relative to something bigger - God. Knowing we aren't the center & He is. The beautiful thing is that He cares & loves us. Seeing yourself as small isn't humility, it's just shifting focus from how much we are to how little we are - still focusing on self. Stunned by God's grace, eyes fixed on Him, knowing who we are relative to Him => humility.
Even when we say that we are humble after trying we are still showing pride because we are ellevating ourselves. There is a saying that is a great help, " I am a proud person and I am continuinly learning to be humble by God's Grace" x
Humility might be expressed as actually giving some respect to the world`s scientific community , who will tell you that biblical creationism is not supported by their findings , instead off peddling a false view of the universe based merely on Stone age stories ??? John Piper displays monumental arrogance.
@ilikezappa You have a point there. Humility has nothing to do with religion. Humility is awe of the fact that we have life through aeons of evolution. The chances of the right particles, the right amount of carbon etc to form life...the fact that nature works in harmony...the fact that we all die someday and this may be as good as it gets...that is humbling. Peace to you.
@themax316 This life being as good as it gets is disheartening. The harmony of nature points to a great conductor! I want to encourage you that there is so much more to look forward to! Humility isn't about discouraging yourself & preparing yourself or a pointless fight of life. It's realizing how much bigger our loving and awesome God is than us - and how he is working for our good. Humility leads to hope and encouragement to fight because we know God is intentional/purposeful in all.
@nkim114 I hope you are right. I was a massive believer in God once; particularly Jesus but I had a really bad experience with a Christian family who used Jesus as a get out of jail free card everytime they did somethin immoral. It made me question God and his intentions and why he protects sinners.....It would be nice to hug God when I die ;)
Amen, yes, we are blessed to draw another breath, praise God He shed His blood so that we may live. God gave everything to us who deserve nothing. What have we to be proud about?
No humillity is not a thing that just happened because of what Jesus did for us, its the state we were meant to alwayse be in.

Funny that you would classify Jesus as proud instead of humble. When you meet Him I am sure you will gladly change your mind.
