Sorry for commenting as I watch, but as somebody who has been forced to take the trade route (with Holland), the reason your compete chances are so low is because you have an insane amount of infamy. With Holland this is one of your biggest challenges, as your economy depends on trade, but you want to take land to form the Netherlands.

You Naval race with England mission made me smile. I once playing as Venice got a mission to protect against Austria, who were the emperor at the time. The game should have coding whereby it won't give those missions if they require you to go above your force limit.

As Ireland, you should be using magistrates to spam cultural tradition, then building 6 star advisers for the fees other nations pay you to buy them. That can net you a lot of money.
