i have a question....

how come in the live earth video and stuff the keyboardist plays bass too for this song but in almost every single live video of them playing besides live earth he only plays the keys?

the keyboardist splits the effects on his keyboard. the lower half has a bass sound, and he usually has the upper half as an organ. he uses effects pedals, which he tapes on his keyboard, to get these sounds. he does this so he can play two instruments at once. on live earth the bass effect may have broken or was left at a previous show, so to keep the bass sound he played his actual bass guitar.
