@ThisIsScottinWriting Thank you so much, Scott. Honestly, I sometimes wonder why I'm doing all this work for no money ;-) But then it's nice to have a creative project going just for fun - and for such nice comments as yours.
I had a friend come over today her name is Regetta she lived behind the wall and was able to walk away from it. She moved to America and we sat and had pumpernickel bread and vegi soup. Anyways, we listened to all the stories and I thought of you :-) So I said all that to say ~ hi :-)
@KiekeMaFilmBerlin Was fuer eine Perspektive.
@lodproductions90 I may not be the best judge of it, but I think making Berlin the capital again was a great decision. It's an exciting, diverse city - a real "Weltstadt" (world city). Bonn was not like that at all. Berlin has to offer more than just politics, it also represents culture, diversity, economy, etc. That's what a capital should be about, I think.
I think the Germans will never recover from the holocaust, mentally. Once you commit such a crime, you can only live in descency and wait for your death. Maybe the Germans want to "die" metaphorically speaking and reincarnate in a new Europe where they are indistinguishable from the others? Out of Germany and into Europe is the only redemption.
@lodproductions90 These are interesting thoughts, but I don't think that is how it works. A nation is more like an organic being that keeps on changing and evolving. With every generation people recover more from the past incidents and create a new identity. The generation of young adults mostly doesn't know anyone who was an adult during World War II. They can embrace their German identity much easier. But all of us have enough reason to be proud of German culture outside of WW2 or The Wall.
@GNYBerlin I think of Berlin only of Nazis. I try something else hang on... nope. I can't. ;-) Yes, there are many things Germans can be proud of: Internet, playstation, google, youtube, hollywood... if you get my meaning. :-) If we'd let them have it there way, they would fall back to white man rules all theory (see Thilo Sarrazin!), hehe. Only a United Europe can save the German soul! :-)
@lodproductions90 Unfortunately what you are writing is both offensive and ignorant. Of course, the things you are mentioning are not German creations at all, they are mostly American. Also you are ignoring all the cultural achievements that have come out of Germany or were created by Germans. Not to mention that your comments about Nazi Germany have nothing to do with this video, which responds to events from the 1960s - 1980s.
@GNYBerlin Well, we were talking about the choice of re-establishing the German capital after the fall of the wall. So, Nazi Germany had a lot to do with the difficult decision to move the capital from Bonn back to Berlin, the former Reichsstadt. Why do Germans get offended so easily by mentioned the past? Every time I meet one, they tell me "we the West", they want to be part of the Anglo-Saxon world order. There is no danger for a German nationstate any more, I think. Even Siemens and DHL...
@lodproductions90 I wouldn't say "Germans get offended so easily by mentioning the past". Germans talk about and deal with their past all the time. What does offend though are comments like yours, which are sadly misinformed and ignorant.
@GNYBerlin I am going to bed now, sister. It is late. We can continue our little argument tomorrow. :-D Or you use your time to produce more excellent videos. ;-) Cheers.
@GNYBerlin ... don't like to say they are German international companies but would rather like to think of themselves as International companies with German roots. Even the German education system broke down a couple of years ago. Now they have the BA - MA - PhD system like China, Japan, Britain, Canada, US etc. And most Germans now learn English, so they can read about the world outside Hegel and Kant and Nietzsche, hehe. German is not even an official language in the EU I hear. For a reason.
Berlijn its a beauty but triest city, East its poor and West its riche,!! East-Berlin see you "Memories" to the War and Wall, resten from the maur stay stll into Easten !!.....
West Berlin is modern, nothing to see from the 2e War !! The Wall broken to opstandige Pubers. this whas 9 November 1989...
@MyCarla27 It must have been very intense to see all that revealed at that time. Of course, today it's quite different. In many ways East Berlin is a lot more modern because so much money for renovations and new constructions were spent in East Berlin in the last two decades.
@HerewegoPeter I'm afraid I can't answer those questions well, since I've been gone for so long. I hope someone else will chime in. There is a political party that grew out of a party from the former East - and Germany is a social state. As to normal conversation, now that you bring it up I realize that I've talked to West-Berlin friends about life in the divided city - but I haven't spoken to people who grew up in the East about the wall in particular. I'll have to bring it up.
@HerewegoPeter Thank you, Peter. You're making an excellent point. There's always the danger of "those who don't remember the past are doomed to repeat it".
So many deaths. I guess they thought it was worth it, and I can well imagine that. I was in Berlin a month after the wall fell, Still got some pieces of stone I hacked out.
East berlin was gray and empty and there were hardly any shops.
@EdEditz Must have been very powerful to see the city at that time. The first time I went was in 1990.. It's sad to think of people in the same city living such different lives. But then I suppose in a way that is going on in many big cities, where some people are very rich and others are very poor. Not saying that West Berlin was rich and East Berlin poor - but just the contrast of life in one city. But it's the threat of death at the wall + the division of families that made it worst here.
still there's a lot of folks from the east who long for the "good old times". Some people just don't seem to get it. Of course it was a good time if you didn't have your own political opinions or didn't care about people who had those, if not starving is all you want to have out of life or if you were paid by the Stasi.
A big up to the people who made it possible this wall came down and a big up to your upload!

But then also that for 15 years after the war, Berlin and Germany were divided but people could still move around.
