I feel like this if you like tyler perry or not it does not matter respect his work ethic and respect him keeping our people employed his values and beliefs don't have to be accepted by everyone but he is a good man trying to help and please so many.
I miss old shows like Good Times,The Jefferson's, A Different world,Fresh Prince, Family Matters, etc. The thing I hate about these newer shows is they only show a certain side of blacks.They buy into the stereotypical acts of what a black person is suppose to look like,act like & dress like. This is why I HATE "B.E.T" They don't represent blacks in a good way at all. I truthfully prefer the network "TV ONE" over "B.E.T" but I think they need to step their game up & start representing us better.

I remember growing up feeling I could relate to Whitley. We weren't as proiminent as her family but certainly financially stable. I agree. I loved this show so much. I'm not black, I'm hispanic, but I always found it easier to relate to this show than a lot of the other one on tv. Most of the things we have on tv now make all of us out to be such jokes, I miss shows like this.
shoot I only watch two shows on tv. Bones and Ghost whisperer. But I would love to have some black shows on tv. Lincoln Height is pretty good too thats a good black show but its just not the same. We need A different world on DVD. I also watch Good times,Martin, Cosby Show, Family Matters... you know the classics because most tv just sucks now.

yeah? it took me a little longer to fall in love with this show because i was born the year it first came on so by the time it went off i was like 6 and didnt really watch shows like this i watched cartoons and lamb chops play along and stuff like that. It wasnt till i was like 10 or 11 when i started watchin shows like a different world, family matters, full house,etc... i even love i love lucy.

I was just watching an episode with Kinu. I could almost swear that Kinu was played by Pilar (Deion Sanders' wife). In the credits, she is listed as Alisa Gyse Dickens. But there are no pictures to be found of Alisa anywhere. I think Pilar wanted to disassociate herself with the name Alisa and any roles she played as Alisa. Also, maybe she was trying to cover up her age.
They've only [officially] released season one. I've heard that they don't have any plans to release season 2-6 due to a "lack of a fan base", but several websites I found online claim have the complete collection. I don't know if its a scam or if they compiled all 6 seasons themselves, so I'd be cautious in ordering from them.

I never can get enough of this show. I know I said it before but I'll say it again it's my all time favorite. If I missed a show my whole day went wrong. Diane Caroll played her role to a T.
This is becoming one of my favorite old shows since it started coming on in the morning where I live. I gotta show this to mom since she's the one that put me up on this show.
You have to give credit where credit is due. The Cosby Show was a WONDERFUL show. I feel that every show that they did was relavant to the black community because it showed that not every black family has be divided by jails, drugs and drive-bys. And it also changed the way that black families were perceived at that the time. I loved both shows! And Whitley was MY GIRL! And I think every young black girl wished at one point that their mama was like Claire Huxtable!
Not to discredit The Cosby Show, it was great. But it did nothing for Black issues. It showed Black parents in professional positions, that's it. No racial issues or anything. Besides the fact that they were Black professionals, nothing stood out on this shoe FOR Blacks. Everything else was just family issues, no particular race.
A Different World did a great job of bring in Black issues AND young adult issues. I miss this show!

@SantaBadd mmm hmm, and not only did they have that, but i miss midnight love,...a rnb and quiet storm video show that used to show at night. they also had news, black topic talk shows, teen summit, some music, game shows....i remember i used to watch a show called 'our voices' with bev smith. it was a really good topic talk show. i miss the old bet

@MICKEYMOUSE9109 That's the thing for me. I shouldn't have to go to what is called black entertainment channel and be fed garbage television just because they're black people and I should like it. I want it to be like the 90's with shows like Fresh Prince, Cosby, and Family Matters came on networks like NBC and ABC. I like those shows because they had the power to transcend black and white and weren't discriminated against. EVERYBODY LOVED those shows.

The Cosby Show gave a great portrayal of a cohesive educated black family. Thats what Bill wanted blk kids 2 c and other races too. DW took it 2 the next level & addressed race, gender& social issues.CS had its role in spotlighting a POSITIVE HEALTHY INNER family structure& he chose not 2 also deal with EXTERIOR issues like racism.Bill wanted 2 counter the neg images of blks and blk family values.DW was the next level:Outside ur family it IS a DIFFERENT WORLD so thats y the issues were more raw.

I was just watching an episode with Kinu. I could almost swear that Kinu was played by Pilar (Deion Sanders' wife). In the credits, she is listed as Alisa Gyse Dickens. But there are no pictures to be found of Alisa anywhere. I think Pilar wanted to disassociate herself with the name Alisa and any roles she played as Alisa. Also, maybe she was trying to cover up her age.

They've only [officially] released season one. I've heard that they don't have any plans to release season 2-6 due to a "lack of a fan base", but several websites I found online claim have the complete collection. I don't know if its a scam or if they compiled all 6 seasons themselves, so I'd be cautious in ordering from them.

You have to give credit where credit is due. The Cosby Show was a WONDERFUL show. I feel that every show that they did was relavant to the black community because it showed that not every black family has be divided by jails, drugs and drive-bys. And it also changed the way that black families were perceived at that the time. I loved both shows! And Whitley was MY GIRL! And I think every young black girl wished at one point that their mama was like Claire Huxtable!

Not to discredit The Cosby Show, it was great. But it did nothing for Black issues. It showed Black parents in professional positions, that's it. No racial issues or anything. Besides the fact that they were Black professionals, nothing stood out on this shoe FOR Blacks. Everything else was just family issues, no particular race.
A Different World did a great job of bring in Black issues AND young adult issues. I miss this show!
