Did anyone hear this show and remember Counting Crows singing a Bruce Springsteen song too? Artie was all into it, but i can't remember the song, i can't find it, and now i'm wondering if I'm totally confused.
Yeah, they played sort of a medly deal where they combined Rain King and Springsteen's Thunder Road. Of the many incredible live performances on Stern, this appearance by Counting Crows was one of the very best IMO. I was listening that day, and wasn't looking forward to the interview & performance... I wasn't really familiar with the group and was expecting some pop crap, but it turned out to be one of my most enjoyable musical experiences to date.
I wish Howard would release a CD/DVD with all the live performances in his studio.
And for the Dead fans - it's OK that CC nailed this song. Joe Cocker took "With a Little Help" to another level w/out any disrespect to the Beatles. In fact, the fab4 told Joe it was better.
Jerry is still the man, no one can do it better, but I know he's definately loving this version, he always loved and supported good music, even if it was his being used by someone else, in fact, if he were still here he'd be playing along with the Crows and wearing a smile as broad as his heart, making all the crows smile like schoolboys just loving the chance to play with him.
Just played this before the show again today. Next to the acoustic version of "Everlong" by Dave Grohl, this is the best live performance I've heard from the show.
@geroth22 if you're right I thank you in advance. All I had was a July 12th replay at the beginning of "round here" (which is good enough for me, but still) =)
